Hi everyone,

I am sort of like newbie in DotA. My favourite hero in the game is Enigma.
I am kind of ok using it, especially early of the game, the hero can push quite well. One tactic that I always employ is to do "conversion" on creeps that have low life and therefore maximizing the attacks from creatures overall to get rid of tower and potentially careless heroes as well at the beginning.

However, at the later stage of the game, it was very disappointing as I realize the hero is too fragile... the hero get killed quite easily by opposing heroes after they have acquired better weapons. And Enigma's life is pretty low to start of with. And damn the ultimate, it is good but it does not have a very long range. By the time I got to the right spot to cast, hero is half-dead.... A couple of hacking and he is gone. And he does not move fast enough while escaping. Ultimately I begin to wonder whether I am getting the right items...

The build normally is:

- Null talisman
- Sobi Mask
- Ring of health
- Robe of Magi
- Void stone (Preserverance)
- Point Booster
- Quarterstaff (Oblivion Staff)
- Vitality Booster
- Energy Booster (Soulstone)

The other weakness I observed from this hero is that the refreshing rate on all his abilities are pretty slow. There's once when I was escaping from a powerful opposing here, I stun him so that I can escape, he caught up with me and my stun is still refreshing... my god....

Can someone provide me some genuine advice on using this hero??
Thanks in advance.

If you're still waiting for one, I can give you a basic build.

Items

RoR/Sobi Mask/Branch at start (or Basilus if it's -ap).
Black King Bar
Radiance
Lothar's
Refresher

The idea is you mass Convert creeps early on and farm like crazy, then get Black King Bar so your ultimate can't be interrupted, then Radiance combined with your ultimate and Midnight Pulse to do mass AoE damage around yourself. Lothar's allows you to easily get in position and then Refresher allows you to do everything twice, although you might need Agahnim's to get the mana required for two Black Holes.

Thanks man!! :)
I was beginning to get a little bit upset when no one actually gives a respond. You are the man!!!
What you actually said is quite true. I did what you said by using convert at the beginning. I did not know that black king bar has that ability to counter disruption of channeling spells... great!
When I team up with my friends, the strategy for me is always creeping up silently to the middle of the enemies and do black hole and at that point, they perform their ultimate such as earthquake, ultimate for Crystal maiden etc.. Did great deal of damage in that way. But what actually happen is that I always got killed before the black hole is out... I guess windwalk is the answer to that... thanks...
Radiance is definitely good with combination of midnight pulse and black hole, but too costly... Will give it a go when the rest of the items are there.
Anyway, once again, thanks for your help!! :)

Question: Will the enemy notice that they are being damaged by radiance while I am doing wind walk? Or, will my wind walk gets cancelled because I damage enemy with radiance by approaching them?

They will not be able to see you, however they will be able to see the Radiance effect on nearby units and any sensible hero will therefore know you're there. It's a small annoyance, but all you need Lothar's for is to (quickly) get in to position, and not lurk - or simply get away.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice. I had a game last week and it was much better using the strategy suggested.

I must say, from experience, Lothar's Edge is definitely a first decent thing to collect for this hero. Not only that it becomes very useful for the hero ultimately, it does help me a lot in escaping. I can't even count how many times this invaluable item save my hero. While this can be countered by getting Gem of True Seeing or wards, at the beginning of the game, very few players will get those stuffs knowing that they have to get good items
themselves.

As this point of saying, the strategy I have is to farm and get as much gold as possible at the beginning with Convesion. Once Lothar's edge is there, wait for opportunity for enemies to attack your tower. Use windwalk to get to a good position and perform midnight pulse and blackhole (must not have any delay between the two, else enemy will do something, such as stunning etc). Well, free hit from the tower on enemy heroes, plus midnight pulse and blackhole damage. If they are going to escape after blackhole is finished, use malefice to stop them. I tried this the other day and two heroes killed, with the remaining escaped with really low life. Never thought I can take out two with Enigma, very nice... :)

Of course, important thing is to actually be able to time correctly, also be REALLY REALLY careful to ensure that you click on an empty spot and not accidentally on an enemy, otherwise will be in deep trouble as you become visible near enemies.

I also think Dagon is considerable useful for this hero as normal attack from this guy is not very fast and damage is not very high as well.

IMO this hero is a team hero. While it can work as a solo hero the builds for this hero are generally kept to the team items. I find in games where you're working as a team getting RoB, mek, and guinsoos to be a definite help to this hero. As for the solo hero build i'd still get guinsoos but add something like desolator or manta. malefice is a very effective spell and i normally level that & stats to play as a hero killing hero, with the help of allies at the start especially.
