Me First impression of Guild Wars

The game is pretty cool...although this is my first in theses MMORPG type games (notice i said MMORPG TYPE games and not MMORPG so no getting on my back bout that) and i might be a little biased as a result of it.
The game is as i said quite nice...you can select a chracter and give him 2 skill sets (i think that's what it is called)....you can shape your character in whatever image that suits you and select the primary and the seconday skill sets.

I took the Elemental Primary and The necro Secondary....

The graphics are good enough but i still have yet to see the likeness of awesome graphics displayed in the game's website gallery.
The magic sprites are excellent though...and the attack mode is simple enough..just clik on an enemy and that's it...spells will be targeted on the enemy you are firing and take a required minimum time to take effect.

A good thing about it that when you rome around in the solo map you will eventually find a captain or a key chracter that would require to you to complete a mission and then you can follow him to a District where you can team up with other players to partake in mission.Of course you can still do the solo quests if you feel like.
Going from district to district require you to download further information from the Arena.net server.. as well as gstarting a mission ...this can get a little tiresome for slow connection (as i found out when my badnwidth was low this afternoon) that if you start a mission and your conection is slow...the other members of your party are liable to atart before you even reach ther...oh welll..
A very helpful thing i found out was that when you find an item by killing a creep or opening a crate..the game automatically assigns that item to a specific member of your party...of course anyone can still pick it up but a message pop up saying that "Item reserved for so and so"...hmph i got stuck with a few people once that had no strategy and went head long into enemies without waiting for the team and just picked up items as it suits theri fancy and then leave...
One team up of four was good...An elemental/Necro me...two monks/necros and a warrior/(something)....that was highly successful with the healing of the monks.
The standard minimum, it seems, for success is four.


Of course since this is alpha there were bugs a plenty....it takes for ages to join a party...as it keeps giving the message"Can't join members who are disconnected"
Then when sometimes starting a mission it hangs up my PC something awful
Of course due to network lags sometimes in a battle things freeze up and the next minute you find your self slain
..hehe heh..once i got killed like that and i was brought back to life at a nearby stone in the solomap in the form of a corpse.ie my chracter's body was completley horizontol..i mean wasn't able to 'run' per se but i would like float everywhere instead ..

But yeah the game was cool and since there is no monthly fee i would seriously consider buying this ..

(Yes i know there are people here who know a lot more than I do especially those who are alpha testers from before..i think Adovid is one...but i wanted to get :2cents: in.)

I do have a question though...what do you do with a skill point once you get it?
And is there a complete history or even a sketchy one of the world of guild wars?

My name is White Knight if anyone sees me. I'm an elemental archer (deadly, longrange assasin), and I wear all white. I wanted different colours, and faces, and hair, but the selection is dreadfully few, and there is only 1 body. Oh well...

I do have a question though...what do you do with a skill point once you get it?
And is there a complete history or even a sketchy one of the world of guild wars?Skill points are used to gain skills. You can have as many skill gems as you want, but you cant use any of them(So that you will have the actual skill) without skill points. You get skills from trainers and you probably figured that out.

As for there being 1 lobby, there are actually several lobbies. You can go through lobbies by clicking on the button to the top that says "District #" where the # number represents any number of the district you are in.

I know that things are kind of hectic and its hard to get with people but once things settle down it will be easier to find who you want to hang with. I would also help to search for a district that is less crowded or just spend time chatting in instanced areas.

My Characters name is Adovid Rpgstars after the fan site that got me into alpha testing :/. I wasnt obligated to do that, I just felt like it :/.

You can buy skill gems from the gem trader, he is right next to the ruined steps in front as soon as you get in town. After you have purchased a skill gem of your profession you can go to a trainer which is one of the npcs standing on a platform in the area that has no roof. I think it is West. Going towards the front stairs it would be to your left. Once you talk to them they bring up a list of skills that can be made using your skill points and skill gems for gold.

Anyway, I think friends list works. all you have to do is open the small tab to the right. It will bring up everything you do concerning the game.

Also the bug that has to do with people not being able to start a mission because "allie is disconnected" is something that came up with the increased number of people playing. They will likely have it fixed by sometime today.

I think I am going to delete this game. It just is too repetitive. Not a good storyline and too much lag. Handling of the character is slow and attacking is monotonous. Well I guess this is why I never liked RPGs. I only like action games such as Halo and Battlefield 1942 and this game doesn't have enough action for me. I really wanted to play on your team, TranquilNight Elf, but now I lost my interest in playing this game. Anyway I took one screenshot. I will upload it and then delete the game.

Sorry you feel that way :(. It is alpha and it is only a portion of the game. I hope you change your mind later on. Animations are still in their development stage, and only a small portion of the story is available. I have been playing the game for several months and I havent gotten bord. I guess its just a matter of taste.

I would ask you to stick arround and give it a little bit more of a chance.

Well it was fun but I lost my interest way too fast. That has to do with what games I like. But I probably will buy the game once it comes out because I will be bored in the summer and I need something to do.

I made an acount (Wb Madman) and i tryed to load GW bax up and it would just sit there! It loaded it self and gave me a black screen for a sec and then went bax to my desktop. WHY?

You have to go to a district.......did you ind the captain to do the mission ?...if you didn't run around and you will....follow him after completing the mission to the district ..
or press the 'm' key and ytou'll be on the map...where you are will be pointed out by green crosshairs and an arrow...the major locations shall be also visible as silver steel like symbols...the one in the middle of the screen is the Perilous North where i started out.Click on the symbol and press "Travel" and there you go. :)

My character name is Cassinea Parino Warrior/Monk if anyone cares to look me up.

I'm not that impressed with Guild Wars right now, mostly because the camera angle shifts would get extremely annoying at points, and there really isn't a good reference for how to do basic things, other than the in-game messages which I often miss. Right now, it just seems like a glorified Diablo2, but I'm hoping that playing some more will prove that assumption incorrect.

Okay, I'm pretty sure I figured it out. I just got back a bit ago and it isn't working for me. I think the server goes down after a certain so that no one can get on. Sigh... oh well, tomorrow I will try after school, erm... after golfing I guess.

Yes i found that to be a distraction in battle ...i guess they are testing the basic playablity in the alpha..hope they work it out.

When they locked the camera to the back of the player many people complained because you cannot see the beautifull shine as you rotate arround your character.

Anyway, E3 for everyone is now wrapping up. I hope some of you were able to enjoy it despite some of the elements that still need to be tweeked and added(due to the fact that it is alpha).

Well, it is pretyt much over for me, maybe a half hour left. I really enjoyed it, I for sure will buy it when it comes out and sign up for beta. Maybe they let us keep our characters, who knows. That would be great if they do.

What do you think the best combinations were? I was an E/R at the beginning, and I played that the whole way through. At the end, I tried a Monk/Necro and I believed that I would have been better as that. Anyone else find good combinations and have a good time?

I was warrior and elemental. It seemed to work well. The 2 fire spell were awesome and then combined with a sword or a hammer make it a very good combo.

I know what I'm going to go with when it comes out.

Warrior / Monk.

Nothing is more deadly than that, you have almost all warrior skills, combined with monk ressurection and heal. You'll be pretty much unstoppable, and if you get good items along with good skills, well... it will be great. A lot of hp/defense and attack, with healing.

To get fame, you must complete missions that require you compete against other real people. Like the Tombs of Drascir or somthing. I managed to get a lot of fame, because that is all I played until the last day. :)

I don't really know what fame does, I'm pretty sure you just get recognition with the more fame you have.

I suppose your they should make a system that the more fame you have the more your name should stand out more..or change color as you enter a new fame class ?...just a thought :)

Oh I know that spell. It is the one where fire comes all around you and does a lot of damage. That was a good spell.

It's the Elemental Attunement Enchantment.Make you attuned to Earth,Water,Fire and Air Elements.It forms a sort of mist all over your chracter.

For the next 60 seconds You get +5 Energy every time you cast a spell related to these types..so the Obsidian flame (which is deadly spell in its own right knocks 40Hp off the enemy in one blow :) )is half the cost while others like Flare are free. :cool:



Oh and here is a screen shot of the inferno in full action..good timing on this one i must say..(unfortunately it took only 23 Hp off that one time..)

Yes they will....in an interview they announced there will be beta sometime after E3 then Open beta a month or two before the release of the game
