Hi, pro-map-makers, ;)

I played around with the editor today, although I am not very good at using it. Because I haven't very much.... so I have a very basic question here. For some reason, I can't seem to be able to make any trees or water. They are not on the terrain palette, or any option I can find. How do I do it?

Thanks in advance,

Yoda

Tool palette > Doodads palette > Trees/destructibles. Hope this helps

Water is in the terrain palette. It is shallow or deep; they are both cliffed.

if you dont want cliffed water make the whole map water from the beginning, and then use the terrain raise tool to make a small island. Use the plateau tool to make the island a plateau, and then drag the plateau everywhere on the map. Then simply lower the terrain where you want water until you hit it.

Thats pretty cool, cause then it gets rid of blizzards ugly cliffs

it works well for cinematics. There is a txt file out there, i think its called miscdata.txt that you can import and remove the limits on raise/lower. Also, if you want to edit cliffs, you can with different textures. (http://world-editor-tutorials.thehelper.net/tilesets.php)

Thanks for your help guys. :)

Ok, I have a second question (another extremely basic one). How can I delete units/buildings? There doesn't seem to be an option, short of placing impossible terrain on top of them.

How do you mean? In the editor? That's simple, just select the unit(s) and press 'Delete'. 'Ctrl + Z' will bring them back. The editor is very much like any other program; same cut, copy, paste, delete and other shortcuts.

If your in a non-unit mode make sure you goto Layer>units

Go to terrain> Debuff all circle buttons> go to units > click units > delete.

Have the unit pallete open, press space, and then you can click on a unit then press delete.

If you talk about getting to the select tool instead of having a unit clistered onto your cursor, there is a box looking like a select square next to the different object editors, in the left side.

BTW: Dayoh if you hadn't noticed, most people don't ever experience the full use of the 3d engine for wc3, people think 3d for warcraft is that the units have all angles and you can turn a bit in the game. But no no... I posted a map here (http://sidsworkshop.phpnet.us/maps/3dsystem.w3x) where you can see some extreme uses of the 3d terraining. A little valley and an island with a bay on the other end, i surgest opening in the editor and not the game.

OBS: Overuse of the 3d terraining may result in some strange terrain, and remember to try always to work some height above the water level, some issues exist with the water not overlapping the terrain making a kinda horizontical water top of very obvious squares. You might work with this for hours because its teasing, but remember all the terraining are based on rules, if you get to know them, you will be able to push your wantings forward faster than useally!

PS: Perfecting this is not EASY its kinda HARD, so map-makers that pride themself at terraining should perfect their skills at this as the result is astonishing, especially compared to that of the normal terraining. Remember to use small touches as you will be in need of the Ctrl-Z key command, aswell as to check repeatedly from different angles that you haven't mised any strange water/land happenings.

Have fun terraining, Zipsco.
