I have been helping alot myself, though, to keep the RP's alive. I am a key piece in Seal's RPG, for e.g. Atleast I try and motivate people, f.eg. "Touch the Source"-thread, and the like. Maybe I just consider myself, but I think the forum is not dead, may have some dead ends but I am working and/or helping to fill them. Yeah. You can count on me!

Like I said, I only knew of people that posted very regularly at BF, and WK has his own choices. I don't really know you well, and saying so, it depends. And don't worry, WK can still request people. As far as I care, if he says he wants someone, they are allowed to join. And this RP will be an everlasting RP, meaning once we get it going, we can add or delete characters at will, without fear of messing a lot of things up, unless of course you are going to party it... Hmmm... But yea, if I think you're good enough, I might throw an invite over to you. But don't get discouraged, as if we think later on you can join, we will throw an invite to you.

And that reminds me, when we send our invites, we will start the thread a few days later... I know this isn't our official thread, but it's better to keep the whole thing clean... Here's the basics of when we PM you about it. WK, listen up, because I have found this is a very effective way to do it:
1. You recieve a PM. In this PM will be enclosed a Char Bio sheet. You are to fill that out, and reply back with all the character information, equipment, etc. on it.
2. Once we recieve this PM, we record it down. Before we start it, we'll make sure we have everyone's Bio. Then we will start the thread.
3. Thread starts, and the first post will be the basics, the second being the characters, which will be the first look. Also, you are going to each be asked to be from a certain range of places. These places are randomly placed on a map that we have already created. This will determine your start location. The world so far isn't exactly huge, but eventually, we can add on to it.
4. You begin your quest. (More on that later)

Anyways, that's how I think we're going to be doing this. Originally, I thought to handle this alone, but upon WK's return, it helped me a bit, because he can help GM it, and also, help me with minor details. But yea, that's the basics so far... o.O

I'm starting working on a FUTURISTIC RP...there are almost none of those, and I think a good one is in order. It will be INVITE ONLY. ANYONE WHO ASKS FOR A INVITE MOST LIKELY WILL NOT BE INVITED. MOST OF YOU KNOW WHETHER OR NOT YOU WILL BE INVITED SO...SHOVE OFF!

Tanain, like Sub said, you are just a little behind the rest of us in raw literary skills. It isn't that you aren't creative or just suck at RPing, you are just behind most of us grammatically and such. As Sub said, most of us are around 16 or older, and-again-most of us are even advanced in such areas...I myself was writing short storied that were published in literary magazines and stuff when I was six, and won a competition when I was in third grade, and it was open to kids up through 8th grade (I got third place, but whatever). A little advice: read novels. Books like Harry Potter, stuff set in fantasy or sci-fi. I recommend the literary works of Orson Scott Card and Michael A. Stackpole, especially Ender's Game(of course, its by OSC) and the entire Dragoncrown War Cycle: Dark Glory War, Fortress Draconis, When Dragons Rage, and The Grand Crusade (by Stackpole). You can find all these at your standard Barnes and Noble, and are wonderful pieces of literature, with rich plotlines, character development, and startlingly detail descriptions, balanced with action and drama. In my opinion, they are pinnacles of American Literature. Screw Hemingway and Thoreau and those other bums. GO FANTASY AND SCI-FI, BITCHES!

I too like reading and writing sci-fi/fantasy but I must make the exception with The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne if only that I'm writing my research paper on it and it is so deep.

I don't read books, I write things. That's another way to develop yourself. Write things, and ask people to read them. At school, I write things all the time, and people like it... More my poetry, though, than my writings, but still, that's because we have a lot of talented writers. Poets are in short call :p

Woot! Go Orson Scott Card readers! *gives a high five*. I have almost an addiction with him, I have every single book he's made with the except of folk on the fringe, Future on Fire, and Future on Ice. I also don't have his maps in a mirror, volume 1 - 4, but I'm going to get all of them. >.<

Another good reader to try is matt reilly if books bore you easily. His are so action packed that you can't stop reading his. Temple and Ice Station are really good, and he's making some sequals to Ice Station. Just go read his books! You'll see that they are really, REALLY good.

I've basically learned all my writing skills from books and myself. I have only really had one good english teacher... the rest were okay, and the one I have now is a ditz; nothing learned this year.

BTW, just keep working on your grammar, and you will eventually get good.

Anywhoo, the RP that I have planned is not going to be a medieval/fantasy thing. Warboards is actually the first place that I've ever RP'd on forums, believe it or not.

I was never much of a fantasy RP'er; I always stuck with modern or semi-futuristic plots. You can expect my RP to follow a plot similar to that. I'm still working out a decent plot right now, and hopefully I'll get everything wokred out next week.

Don't worry, Maeg. We always welcome new RPers, it's scarce enough here as it is.

The RP forum will pick up again after school, and there will be new RPs. You can also insert yourself into a story, just ask permission first. I'm sure they will welcome you.

Seal's story is accepting new people, although he seems to be on a sort of haitus right now. I'm sure he'll be back soon, though.

What is a 5+? Don't you guys have a letter grading based system?
5+ is well, you can say, Almost the best, which is 6. 6+ whould be perfect.
5+ is very useful with just some flaws. In my case, it's like, formal language and some grammars, but it's very few left challenges on my way to the top. Perhaps I dabble too much in unserious speeches, but I manage to keep a clear line of English in the long run.

It's number, not letter's here, you know :)

I LOOOVE reading! It's a hobby of mine :D I read 4-5inch thick novels daily. I'm reading two right now. The DaVinci Code (Can't remember the author and I'm too lazy to look it up :p) and The Journeyer by Gary Jennings (Jennings ROCKS!! I love his work!! i.e: Aztec, Aztec Autumn, Raptor.)

Reading is what makes you knowledgeable and a whole lot better at writing. I love Phillipa Carr aka Victoria Holt aka Jean Plaidy. She's got all these series out about the Queen's of England and Queen's of other countries.

Where do you think I get all my Medieval knowledge from? From novels like that!

I just recently read the trio series by Mary Stuart: The Autobiography of King Henry VIII, The Memoirs of Cleopatra & Mary, Queen of Scotland & the Isles. I loved all three of them!!

And if any of you have ever heard of Mary Stuart, then you ought to know about her Authurian Saga too!

Anything from Orson Scott card:

The Ender Series: The first one is one of the best books I have ever read, it will surprise you and entertain you. The other ones are not quite as good, but are still worth reading. The series splits off into the Shadow sub-series, which are very, very good. It's basically about a boy (in the first book) in some sort of space military training centre for very advanced children. It is extremely interesting and fun to read.

The Tales of Alvin Maker Series: Orson wrote this book in an unusual fashion, as if someone from that time period was actually writing it. It's basically about an America that could have been, and there are things called knacks, which are things that a person is good at. A good read.

Homecoming Series: It is basically set in the future, a while into the future. People are on another planet and I think they have been on the planet for millions of years (around that time). They came from Earth a long time ago. Something called an Overmind misdirects their minds so that no war machines can be built. A very good read.

Matt Reily books: He is my favourite author and all of his books are the best I have ever read. If you love non-stop action and an involving storyline that does not let you put down the book, read ALL of his. It's worth it.

Ice Station: The best book I have ever read, it is chock full of action. I think I put it down 3 times, that's it. I just had to keep reading. Basically, an unidentified object is found underwater, under a research facility in the arctic. A team is sent there to protect the researchers and to secure the station so that the US will be the first to investigate the finding.

Temple: Twist ending, a ton of action. It's about a secret weapon that could destroy the world, made of some material that is extremely dense.

Contest: This is about a few aliens and one human being put into an antique library and fighting it out to the death. Another action packed one.

Area 7: A sequel to Ice Station, it was just as good as it. Another action packed one.

Two books come to mind when I think of favorites: The Scarlet Letter and Battlefield Earth.

The first was written by Nathaniel Hawthorne (you may have heard of him if you've ever read Young Goodman Brown, a short story) in the 1850's so its got some old English in it (thy, thou, etc). It's got a lot of Nature symbolism and romantic ideals common to the era and it is set in the stark Puritan colony of Boston in the 1690's or something like that. If you like literature, you've gotta read this book. It is just so deep and involves eternal issues such as love, hate, and adultery. And so much more... I sound like an info-mercial :)

Battlefield Earth is a strictly science fiction novel that is over 1000+ pages long. But don't be turned off by the length. Each page is extremely well done and the plot itself is amazing, weaving in almost every topic from intergalatic banking to technology. This book is definitetly a page-turner and is extremely entertaining with its witty characters and fast-paced action.

Those books are just some that I have found fantastic. I could name others but I would be sitting hear for most of the year in typing out short summaries of them. And trust me, if you liked LotR, you'll like Battlefield Earth.

In the Invite, it will provide a breif detail of what is to come. It will specify specifics based on armor, weaponry, what time period it's in, SOME of the areas in the world, and the like. Also, I would prefer not to hear people talking to each other about their characters. Some of you may use older ones, or characters you use all the time, but I would really recommend using something totally different. If you play a swordfighter all the time, maybe try an archer or something. This will be one heck of an RP if it gets going.

But the storyline itself is kind of open ended right now. Once you send me your info, I will compile it, and save it for when this thing starts. Once it does, I will provide quests and such, as will WK. Trust me, you will understand more later. As it is, I should have had this done last week, but I just got a 40-hour week... So that's why I haven't been on much. x.x

As you know, my RPG will call the "Hunt for Honor". It is pretty much about a band of super soldiers in the future sent by the American government to help the American troops to win the Vietnam War in the late 60's and early 70's. They will travel through time. The supersoldiers have super abilities, like Bullet Time, jump from Building to Buildings, use of Jet Packs, and modern Weapons. Best of all you get to take out your frustration.

I'll be revealing some facts about my upcoming RP, which should begin if my current one dies.

First, the rules and environment.

The RP is going to be fantasy, but with some futuristic elements.

General:



There is only humans.
There is no advanced weaponry, crossbows should be the most advanced weapon around, along with several types of swords. Armor is usually leather, but most of people think that leather is too warm. Richer people may have metallic corset-like armor, or chainmail.
There is, though very advanced semi-militaristic technology, kind of mind-controlling devices, aircraft and communication devices. Explaining more about them on the thread, or earlier if necessary.
The environment is warm, forested. Lots of hills and lakes between them. Beautiful.
The clothing of folk around is consisted of light material covering the most sacred areas of the body. Remember, that the climate is warm, and clothing doesn't have to cover the entire body.
There is no government, the villages are independent.
There is rumours of mysterious wanderers doing weird things, some people say that they are sorcerers.
If you can, base your characters around those boundaries and rules, and PM me them. They will be included in the thread.

If you feel like those aren't enough, PM for more details, or just wait for the thread.

Yeah, definitely. The thing to making a good RP is description. You have to be descriptive, and go in-depth. How did this war start? Where are the nations located in relation to each other? Try making a map or something. Locations quite important, but don't slack on character creation either. Set some rules, or something.

Well, everyone, I finished my Invite-Only Futuristic RP. I'm considering releasing it now, but the only thing holding me back is that I will be out of town next week. Well, everyone, I finished my Invite-Only Futuristic RP. I'm considering releasing it now, but the only thing holding me back is that I will be out of town next week. If you want me to release it now, please either PM me or post here. However, I doubt I will start it until I get back from vacation, so be in line for a wait.

Although, I guess it is pretty complicated, and the extra time would be good for character development, and the Wild Card wannabes.

Technically this is an Invite-Only RP, but I have decided to allow one or two "Wild Cards" in it. To become a Wild Card, you would have to be NOT on my invite list of course. You would create your character just like everyone else, post it and ask to be considered as a Wild Card. I will choose from the Wild Card group who actually gets to be in the RP. There you have.

I say if you want to release it now, you will. If you feel that a little time off would do better, then take the time off to make it better. There is no such thing too much thinking time. So Far

Exp based system? Easy. Have it based like this: Create version of monsters, kind of like FF. Then from that, make each of them based on a 'point system.' Small monsters worth like 1. little bigger worth 2. Some others 3, etc. up until like 10. Bosses be worth like 25. From that, then when you fight like 2 at a time, add a *1.5 bonus, *2 for 3, etc. That way, you gain more exp from bigger battles. If you have teammates helping, you split it equally. If you fight 3 monsters, and have three people, you gain a 3 monster bonus, but it's negated, since there are 3 of you. Go that way. It worked in an old RP I did, which was rather fun for about 3 months. It died because everyone left my forum x.x

sorry I didn't intro ShadowRun here first... I have been away from warboards for a while and just now managed to get back in the swing of things (Job now has WB blocked from work... couldn't post at work, then I an stuck on dial up and it's such a pain.)

but I am back now, posting from home on a wireless router/cable modem. If you want a highly detailed RP I suggest you check it out... there is still only 3 players in the second run (7 in the first got a bit crowded) so a couple more would be welcome. Hopefully the story will be quick and we can get everyone into a couple runs.

Sure thing... What genre is the RP? Modern, Future or Fantasy? I never used to Fantasy RP until I joined these forums. Heck, I never used to "Forum" RP until I joined these forums. I was PBeM'er.

Anywhoo, I'm planning on releasing an RP soon. Modern Style, but I have no experience in Forum GM'ing. I mean, from the majority of the Rp's that I've lurked, it seems as if they don't have enough character interaction. It's more of a:

"David swung his sword, and connected with the enemies. His opponent, off balance from the powerful attack, took a step back. David, seizing the opportunity twirled around, and struck his opponent in the chest. The fatal blow knocked him to the ground."

While there is nothing wrong with that style, I dont like it. As much, I guess. I like the long ones.

And, IMHO, Seal's RP went to hell, and fell apart. No offense. ;)

My RP is a futuristic.

O what the hell...I'll get it ready and post it tonight. But I'm not going to be posting much until next week probably. That will give the Wild Carders a LOT of time to make a kick-ass characters. A few people are going to need them, as I don't know them very much (for example, BLackIce. Never seen you RP, and I'm putting up a MAXIMUM of TWO Wild Card Slots) So work hard. RP should be up and PMs sent to the invited in no less than 10 minutes. Thank you.

Someone should start a thread - And no one should post to it. The first post should have a list of of Upcoming Rp's, and a brief spill about what it's about, what they need, and if it's Invite-Only, etc. When someone wants to add their RP, just PM the thread owner, and they'll update it.

How about that? It'll avoid useless and crazy posts. And people won't start yelling at each other about SPAM.

Style: I think this is most important. 1st Preson or 3rd person. I've noticed a lot of people on this forum don't tend to care, but I believe it makes one heck of a difference.
Other Information: How strict the GM is with new Ideas, certain things not allowed, just other misc. information.

I think it would be better/easier to manage to follow a system close to that which I laid down for Diplo, but that's just my opinion. I'd say it would be worthwhile to get an opinion from our prodigal Mod Shinigami before making a final system.

It would be MOST effective to create a thread that combines Upcoming and Current RPs, such that when the game's an inkling, the GM can post it with an "UPCOMING" flag, and if/when it starts, edit it to be "STARTED" or whatever. That way, if the GM should ever want to fine-tune their game while in the UPCOMING stage, they don't need to go through you and can just edit their game/post themselves.

Since I'm not really around this forum that often nor really know the protocol, I'll leave it to ya'll to figure out how posting games would work if you adopt the above system.

With your system comes the same problem that people have been having with this current thread - it gets full of useless garbage.


All threads will drift away from their original topic. The drift may be slow (as seen in" Upcoming RP's") or may be rapid (as seen in "I Hate Spam Email").

Once a thread is created, it is doomed to die or drift away from the orignal topic.

Yes, locking a thread still allows posting. I'd vote for either Ender or WK to update it, though, as I feel them highly able to do so. If any does it, you know they would.
