Okay I have norton and my subscription expired a week ago. Now it bothers me evrey 10 secounds by haveing A Syntac alert pop up. I disabled auto alert. Clicked the don't show again and all that but it still comes up. I don't have the money to renew my subscritpion right now is there any way to stop them?
Reinstall Norton and you'll have another year. Symantec doesn't seem to retain install date data on the system after you uninstall.

I don't have the disk it came with the comp >.<
There are much more nefarious ways of obtaining software aside from the traditional capitalist methods.

The PC manufacturer would have given you a number of disks with the computer, your copy of Norton is probably on one of those.
If you can't find it and are unable to obtain a copy of it your best option would be to uninstall it and install a freeware virus scanner. Most freeware virus scanners will slow your PC down a lot less than Norton will and do just as thorough job, Norton is crap in my opinion, but that might just be me.
Uninstall Norton and go with AVG Free.
Its better anyways.

Yoouuu said it! Norton 2006 actually has proven to cause more problems than it prevents. AVG Free is better than Norton and as long as you don't have a 200 Mhz machine then you won't even notice it's running.

How so? I've been using 2006 for some time and have been quite happy.

Thats more of an issue with you, we can't tell you how it has screwed up your own system can we? =P PErsonally the abnormal amount of false-positives, and forced subscriptions pissed me off.
Norton has fallen off the AV "throne" so-to-say.
Truly, if you wan't the best, then get Kaspersky. Nothing is better.

Erm...don't use a anti-virus at all?
I don't use one, and my computer is clean & fine.

You realize that's kind of like never going to the doctor and stating "I'm always in perfect health," right? If you don't have something that checks for viruses, how do you know for certain you don't have any?

The only reason Norton is so widely known and used is because it comes pre-installed on so many computers and Symantec promotes it too much. Once your subscription runs out, Norton is going to bug you every 5 seconds and try to scare you in to buying a subscription. Don't listen to any of their popups that claim your computer will explode if you don't renew right away. In fact, if I were you I'd completely un-install Norton and go with a free alternative.
A lot of people say AVG is really good, but I've never tried it on my own computer. My personal favorite is SpySweeper -- it isn't free, but there is a free 30 day trial which is fully functional and can be reset by reinstalling the program. I actually pay their $20 annual subscription fee because I'm so happy with SpySweeper, and unlike norton they don't murder you in popups when it runs out.
If you know what you're doing, you can actually survive without any anti-virus at all. I wouldn't recomend it, but I've managed to keep my PC spyware/virus free for over a year and I'm very proud of my computers current top-notch condition. Never the less, I still scan for viruses once a month with 4 different scanners just to be sure (and I rarely find anything).
AVG is good. It doesn't make a major fuss and the updates are very quick. It's also good for scanning folders etc.
EDIT: Oh, yeah. And it's free!

Uhm... spysweeper isn't an AV tool man.
If your going to pay for AV services, get Kaspersky.

I DL and use a virus scanner once every 6 months or so. Then I uninstall it.

Then you do use anti-virus, just not as often as some other people. ;)

*shrug* it's advertised as anti-spyware, but I really don't care what they call it because from personal experience SpySweeper catches everything, and even a few things other programs miss. But if it makes you feel better, I also scan regularly with Ad-Aware, Spybot, Norton AV 2006, and Windows Defender Beta (and possibly AVG in the near future)..... not that I would be dumb enough to manage to get viruses on my PC in the first place, but you can never be too careful =P

Just scan your PC with HouseCall (http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/) every once and a while, and you'll be fine. It picked up two viruses that AVG didnt, so it has some credibility.
Housecall is probably one of the niftiest things to ever come out of the internet, at least IMO.
