If your speakers aren't working, get new speakers.
But on a more serious note, have you tried restarting the computer? Have you tried headphones? Have you tried the speakers on a different computer?
First we need to determine if the problem is with the speakers or the computer. If other speakers or headphones work with the computer, then the speakers are broken. If no other speakers or headphones work, then there may be a problem with something on/in the computer such as the sound card, or even something as simple as a setting.
And if you call tech support they will ask you, with an odd indian accent: "Have you tried restarting your computer?" and then "Are the speakers plugged in to the computer?"

........ Could you please be more specific? What questions are you answering when you say "yes and yes" -- Please use complete sentances when answering questions, for example say something like:
Yes, the broken speakers work on another computer, or No, the broken speakers don't work on any computer.

As for the speakers not working, re-read the third reply to this thread and follow those instructions, then post the results here in complete sentances.

Step 1) Shutdown computer.
Step 2) Unplug computer.
Step 3) Place computer in closet.
Step 4) Stare at wall until problem goes away.

*sigh* this is the last time I'm going to try to explain it
First we need to determine if the problem is with the speakers or the computer. Please follow these two EASY steps to determine where the problem is:
1) If other speakers or headphones work with the computer, then the speakers are broken.
2) If no other speakers or headphones work, then there may be a simple problem with the computer.

Good, we have concluded that your speakers are not the problem.
I need to find out how to access my video card. my uncle said it was the virus
No offense zerg eater, but unless I'm missing something or you left out a crucial bit of information, the reasoning behind the advice your uncle gave you makes absolutely no sense at all and I wouldn't do anything your uncle says without talking to a reliable computer geek first.
Your video card has absolutely nothing* to do with the sound card, much less a virus. It's like saying "We need to go to the hospital to buy a bag of chips to fix the window" -- Video cards, sound cards, and viruses are all very different parts of your computer and very rarely do they affect each other.
Unless we make progress within the next 2 posts, I'm officially done with this thread =P

how can a virus affect your sound card? more than that, your v-card...who old is your uncle...? it took him long to get to the concluzion that the speakers don't work b-cuz of a virus? =)

Alright, Zerg_Eater, since my sounds don't work either, let me demonstrate how one goes about seeking information...
In an attempt to speed up gaming performance on my Celeron, I disabled sound acceleration in dxdiag and disabled my sound card (PCI) from BIOS. This worked fine, but when I re-enabled my sound card and set acceleration to full, my computer can't seem to play any sounds.
I have tried 2 different sets of headphones as well as a speaker system, and none worked. However, whenever I plug something into the "output" slot, a process called soundman.exe comes up and tells me to set the settings for the new device. However, when I attempt to test the device connection, it says: "Please stop other audio devices before starting." I have no idea what this means, and nothing I do seems to make the message go away. If I press "okay" after the warning comes up, it says: "Initialization failed." Hardly informative -_-
So, does anyone know what exactly is going on and how I could fix it?
