Light & Dark

Volume I

The wheels of the subway car ground to a halt, rudely jerking a half asleep John Barton into reality as his face slammed into a metal pole. Groaning, he pulled himself up and rubbed his injury. He glanced out the window hoping to see the sign for 15th Avenue, only to be disappointed with 13th. Sighing, he sat back in his seat.

The dim lights in the train flickered as it began to move again. John’s bloodshot blue eyes idly examined the vandalized compartment of the old subway train. Graphiti stained nearly every one of the walls, while litter nearly covered the heavily scratched floor. Even the seat he sat on smelled a little funny, like a wet dog almost. Tiredly, he leaned his head to the side, messy brown hair brushing up against the ice cold window.

Another station came and went, though John barely noticed. At this grueling rate the meeting would be over before he got off the train. The special meeting that his boss arranged at the last minute began at 4:00 am. Apparently a big deal would come through if he could meet with another company before the end of the month, but today at this ungodly hour was the only available time. He left in such a rush that he’d left his wallet at home, limiting his means of travel to this old, underused and outdated subway.

“Next stop, 15th Avenue. Next stop, 15th Avenue.” Blared the speakers. John sighed again and stood up, grabbing his bag and walking to the door. Life was tough, and work simply made it harder. The doors slid open with the usual hissing sound and John stepped out. A rush of cool air met him, causing his cheeks to turn a little red; the train must have been warmed by its loop through the underground portion of the city, where it never got cold.

John shivered as he stepped out into the freezing wind above ground. His thin white button up gave him barely any more protection against the cold than his green t-shirt underneath it. He took a step absentmindedly. Suddenly his foothold gave way, sending his skidding into a deep puddle in the middle of the sidewalk. He jumped as the icy cold water touched his skin, and he quickly pushed himself up.

“Just my luck” John muttered. The water had completely soaked his jeans and shoes. He sighed. He would be uncomfortable for the rest of the day. Suddenly, icy pain shot through his foot, like every inch had been pierced with a hundred needles. Shocked, John immediately recoiled, but his foot wouldn’t budge. Pain shot through his entire leg, spreading faster than a wildfire.

“You, my friend, are very lucky.”

John looked up, only to see a man where a hood and coat which made any features indistinguishable. Grimacing, John tried to move, but it only caused more pain. He looked down and finally saw why his foot lay immobile. Solid ice encapsulated his foot, shards sharper than steel sticking out, and in. Dark blood trickled out of his leg, freezing instantly on the clear shards, staining them. Panic slowly filled him, and he looked back at the man.

“Can...Can you help.” He pushed out with what little breath he had. The man turned around, and slowly walked away.

“That depends on your definition of help.”

“Wha…what?”

As suddenly as it had come, the pain disappeared. John looked down to see the ice and blood gone, not even water left behind. John pulled up his jeans. No wounds, no blood. Bewildered, he looked up at the man, now a few yards away. He turned around and looked at John once again.

“You can only trust the first person you see. You cannot trust anyone else. Ever.” He turned, and walked into a dark alley. Confusion filled John.

Suddenly, an explosion rocked the world. A gust of power sent John slamming into a wall. He crumpled into a heap, coughing up blood over the sidewalks. Trying to stand up, he felt dizziness overcome him. He closed his eyes, as the noise dampened and the world darkened.

*****

A warm breeze blew over his face. John slowly opened his eyes. He was still in the city, and a strange red glow covered everything in front of him. Groaning, he willed himself to sit up and get a better look at things. Debris from collapsed buildings covered the streets in front of him, rays of a strange red haze covering everything in sight. John looked up, through the skeletons of once proud skyscrapers, to see a blood red sky and a red sphere on the horizon, twice the size of the sun.

John slowly pushed himself upright, wincing as a pain arched through his chest. Barely able to stand, he leant for support on a nearby piece of concrete. He looked out on the horizon, but everything had been leveled or destroyed beyond repair. Nothing in sight survived. Realization was beginning to set in. His entire world lay before him, devastated.

John started to move. He had to get out of here, before something else happened. A nuke left fallout, and it couldn’t be anything besides a nuke. Right? Still unsteady, he tried to take a step. Suddenly, disorientation hit him from everything direction. He couldn’t tell if up was up or right or down. The world faded, and darkness consumed everything.

*****

“Why…weren’t you killed…” A voice whispered out of the darkness, almost impossible to hear and yet as loud as a shout at the same time. John shook his head, still shaken from the fall. Or, he thought he’d fallen, “You…he knows you…”

John cringed. The voice filled him with fear. It came from every direction, piercing him like a knife. He gathered his courage and pushed out, not without pain, a question, “Who is ‘He’?”

“Him!” Yelled the voice, “That one who is my immortal enemy, who has planned my downfall from the beginning and yet cannot even come to face me himself. He would just send his servants! Yes…servants…”

“Wha-what?”

“You…are pathetic…you will be destroyed…even before…”

“Before what?”

No reply came. Then, as suddenly as it had come, the darkness left. But it had left him somewhere else. The skeletal skyscrapers had been replaced with tall trees, and the debris with yellow-greenish grass. John stared around, helplessly. Whatever had just happened, he had somehow gone from the middle of the city to a field he’d never seen before in his life.

Jason Taylor was just driving along the Golden Gate Bridge delivering another pizza. He had Arch Enemy in the CD player.

Weak and sick I crawl
In the dust of past mistakes
Leaving for the darkness
Of tears and cold heartaches
Suffer in this grief
Of forever burning hate
The ashes of my life
By the torment you create

Sudenly he wasn't on the GG bridge, atleast not the one he was used to. The bridge was sudenly empty. There were a few cars but none had drivers. And the sky...It was all blood red. Befor he realized where he was going Jason had driven right in a gap in the bridge. "OH SHIIIIII" he stated to exclaim before he realized there was no water under the bridge. There wasn't anything, not even his car. Just darkness...But he still heard the radio, that is until it cut out, and was replaced by a laughter so evil it made his stomache churn and skin get clammy.

All he did was blink and the laughter was gone. No more darkness either. he was in a valley some where. It looked like it was surrounded by a forest on one side and a mountain on another.

Bus stop
It starts
***********

I Fingered the loose change in my pocket as I awaited my bus back home, it was getting late and I had school in the morning. Figuring that to escape this hell hole of a life, I needed to get better educated I alyways took school seriousally, not like my friends.

The rain began to pour down on my head, a rather warm rain which was more of a annoyance then any real impediment. I lifted my hood over my head to block the rain from wetting my hair.

Finally there it was, the bus was barreling down the highway travelling faster then it should. Then I noticed it, the city was degraded, more then usual in fact it looked as if there was a large explosion somewhere in the vicinity, but I heard no explosion, something that did that amount of damage would of been audible.

I looked up, the rain had stopped but the sky was scarlet red. "What is going on" I thought. I listened for people, some noise of life something, I heard a trashcan fall over in the alleyway just up ahead. I proceeded towards the alleyway.

There was somethng floating, it resembled a fireball. "He...Hello?" My voice quivered, "Was I afriad?" I wondered. The fireball turned and faced me, I then realized this was no fireball, but a ominous set of firey red eyes.

The eyes came flying at me. I put up my hands to cover my face. When I lowered them I was unharmed, but instead of the alleyway I found myself surrounded by total darkness. "What am I standing on?" I thought puzzled. My thoughts were soon answered, for whatever it was below me gave way and I began plummeting into this abyss of darkness.

The darkness gave way after what felt like only mere moments and I found myself in a tree, I jumped down to see I was surrounded by a vast forest, still no signs of life.

Seth looked in his rearveiw mirror at the flashing light behind him. 'Im gonna get caught this time...I knew I shouldn't have taken the damn car.' He thought to himself, followed by him cursing softly.

He was trying to think of a way out when a narrow street on his right caught his eye, whithout think he jerked the steering wheel to the right and pumped the breaks. The speeding car turned the skidded about 20ft before the tred caught the road again and the car shoot down the street. Seth turned to see if the cop had managed to follow...he hadn't, which means he once again had escaped the law...but only to get caught by a parked car, which he slammed into. His unconscious body was sent through the windshield and into a nearby abandoned building.

As vision began to return to him he felt a horrible pain in his chest and looked down to inspect himself. A steel pipe had impaled his chest, which blood was now gushing out of. Panic began to set in as he realized he would soon die. Without thinking he tried to jerk the pipe out, which only cause more pain and for the blood to flow freely from his boddy. 'Great...Im going to die hear alone, all because of that damn car.' He began to hear voices, he couldn't distingiush what they were saying but he was sure there were voices. His vision was suddenly filled with a bright red flash, but only for a moment before he drifted off.

'Im dead....I have to be dead...im going to hell....' He thought. 'Wait a minute if im dead how can I think?'
"Open your eyes." The voice was not his own but sounded so familiar. He slowly opened his eyes but only saw a blurry green, then his vision cleared and he saw that he was in the middle of a valley covered in vegetation. He was dumbstruck with astonishment, how was he alive? How had he gotten here? The only thing he could do was sit and hope for the answers to somehow come to him.

Garret had done it again, and there was no way out of it this time he was going to be in big trouble. The last time he had done anything this bad he had been grounded for a month and this time it would probably be six. It wasn’t often that Garret disobeyed his parents but he just could not resist, the temptation had been just too much. Garret had taken his fathers golf clubs! For most people this would not be such a big deal but in Garret's family this was one of the worst things you could ever do. Garret know that it was impossible to get away with it now, not only were his parents already home, but he had put a scratch on his fathers favorite club, his tailor made driver (if you didn’t know they cost about 5 hundred dollars.)

Garret was just pulling into his driveway thinking of how he was going to tell his dad when the sky went blood red.

"That was odd," he said quietly to himself as he got out of the car. Then it dawned on him, this was Alberta, the weather changed every ten minutes. He was slowly walking to his door when the ground started to shake. At first Garret thought it must be an earth quake, but earth quakes never happened in Alberta. Then it went dark and Garret felt like he was falling through nothing. Then just as suddenly as it had started everything quite and he was standing in the middle of a forest, alone.

I would like to inform everyone, in case there is a missunderstanding, that you are ALONE for now. NO ONE is near you, at all.

Thanks.

A field
Dreaming
*****

It had to be a dream. Seriously, all of his city destroyed? Envoloped in darkness? Talking to a strange voice with no origin? Field? He shouldn't have eaten that tuna ealier, but past isn't present. He would have to wander around until he stopped dreaming. John stood up from the crouch he had been in, still reasoning that there was no way in the world this could be anything but a dream. I mean, if it was real wouldn't he have died in whatever 'explosion' had destroyed the rest of the city? Wouldn't he be bleeding? Wouldn't his pants be wet?

Still, he couldn't shake the feeling that something larger was happening here. But this was a dream, so he didn't have to worry about that. Smiling, he let himself drop backwards, knowing that he wouldn't feel anything. Or shouldn't anyways.

He slammed into the ground, knocking the wind out of him and leaving him gasping for breath. Maybe this dream was more realistic? Doubt had been filling his mind since the beginning, and this simply helped to comfirm his fears. Whatever had happened, it had really happened. He had to accept that, now, or face consequences. Still pondering his thoughts, John lay down in the grass and stared at the sky.

*****

John snapped his eyes open. He had dozed off in this field. Maybe for ten minutes, maybe ten hours. The sun was still up, so it couldn't have been that long. John looked around, lazily. Still just an empty field, as far as he could see. Then something moved.

John slowly turned over to get a better look at it. It moved again, only a dozen or so yards away. John slowly lifted his head to clear the grass, hoping to catch a better look at whatever it was. A hood came into view, then a cloak and something shining. A sword? He wouldn't doubt it in these situations. He raised his head little higher, to see the rest of it. It's curved figured told John it was female, whatever it was, and humanoid. Wether to call or not, that was the question.

Suddenly, darkness engulfed him. John tried to yell for help, but no sound came from his mouth. "You are safe." Said someone. John opened his eyes to see a Iron mask staring back at him, with two eyes underneath like those of a cat. "I teleported you away from that...thing, and over to here." Said a voice from beneath the mask, grainy and a little unsettling, "You'll be safe here."

John gazed untrustingly at the thing in front of him. "It's obvious you don't trust me. But you should. Remember, that man said trust the first you see. He meant me, he was my messenger. You saw the other thing by mistake, so don't worry. I'm here to protect you."

The man paused and looked around. "We need to leave, we must find the others."

Note: I'll post the chars when I'm not so lazy.

The Forest
Signs of life?
--------------

I wondered what was happening here, I just came from the city, and ended up in a forest, that seems impossible but at least those eyes are nowhere near. I guess I'll have to go looking for life if it refuses to find me. I don't know what this is, but it feels as if something big is happening something bigger then me.

I began to walk towards a dense brush and notice a stick fairly round and long in size, and pick it up you never know what will be in these woods. The brush is getting thicker but I hear voices, a man? No wait, two men. Which direction? That way.

I hear them say
""I teleported you away from that...thing, and over to here. You'll be safe here." The voice sounded smothered, as if whoever was talking was wearing something on their face.

"Teleported?" I wondered how that was possible, but decide that I should go and see where these men are.

"It's obvious you don't trust me. But you should. Remember, that man said trust the first you see. He meant me, he was my messenger. You saw the other thing by mistake, so don't worry. I'm here to protect you."

Hmm I don't remember that message, but if this guy says this forest is safe, then maybe it is.

"We need to leave, we must find the others." That same man says as I enter the clearing where the two men stand.

"Who are you? How did you teleport us here? What's going on?" I began asking questions as I dropped my stick. "What others? I heard no one else, I've been wandering these forests for, but I heard no one else."

"Your questions will be answered with time young man for now come with me, you can trust me" The man said, as he rose his head to look at me.

An iron mask I thought, why would he be wearing it?

"We must find the others" he said, "Fast, for THEY will soon be upon us."

OOC: Any problems, i guess I'll have to change it.. mmmkay sirion.

Another branch cut across John's face, leaving a stinging sensation and a little blood. He groaned and slowed down a little, but Iron Mask pulled him back. They had been running for several hours now, nonstop, and John felt like his would die from exaustion if not lack of breath. The man next to him, Mike, wasn't off much better. He looked pale and scared, and he tripped a lot resulting in a bleeding nose.

"W-we...need...to...stop..." John pushed out with what little breath he had. To his immediate relief, Iron Mask stopped and turned around. "Thank...you..." Panted John as he sat on a little patch of grass. Mike did likewise.

"We can rest here for a few minutes. The caves are only 5 Sans away. That's be about half a mile in your world.

John nodded. He could make it, he thought.

"What is...going...on..." He asked Mike, though he was sure this man was as clueless as he was.

"W-we...need...to...stop..." One man pushed out with what little breath he had. To what seemed his immediate relief, a man in an iron mask stopped and turned around. "Thank...you..." Panted he as he sat on a little patch of grass. the third person did likewise.

"We can rest here for a few minutes. The caves are only 5 Sans away. That's be about half a mile in your world.

the First man nodded.

"What is...going...on..." He asked the youngest one.

"Well isn't it obvious?" Jason asked the the two sitting down. "You're obviously part of my hallucination. I didn't remember taking anything this morning... but its always a possibility. You know for some one created from a mind as intelligent as mine, you don't seem to be that smart."

(Sorry didn't know we were supposed to be alone)

After Garret had looked around for about ten minutes and had found nothing he decided he might as well settle down and try to figure out where he was. Garret sat down with his back against a tree and when he looked up he saw a man out in front of him. Garret stood up so fast he almost fell over.

The man told Garret not to move but before he could finish Garret had his foot in the man's stomach. The man stumbled back a few feet and when the next kick came he was ready for it, he grabbed Garrets foot and twisted. Garret went flying into the nearest tree. Before Garret could even look up the man was over him and he picked him up off the ground and stood him on his feet.

"I am here to help you, and with me you are safe. Now, we must find the others, before it is too late."

It was ovious this man was completly full of himself.
"Who are you then?" I asked the man.

"Jason, Jason Taylor." The man said in a tone which obviousally showed he thought highly of himself.

"Hmph! Well Jason Taylor, we've got half a mile left to go before we get wherever this masked man is leading us, I suggest we continue, and you follow we can relax then." I said in a blatantly sarcastic tone.

"Shall we continue then?" The man in the iron mask asked, in that same monotonal voice.

John wanted to punch him right there and then. Whoever this guy was, he was full of himself. If anything, he was John's hallucination, not the other way around. Getting up, John tried to move offensively towards the man, but he fell backwards against a tree in exhaustion.

"Who are you then?" Said Mike.

"Jason, Jason Taylor" Said the other in an arrogant tone.

"Hmph! Well Jason Taylor, we've got half a mile left to go before we get wherever this masked man is leading us, I suggest we continue, and you follow we can relax then." Mike blurted out, sarcastically.

"Shall we continue then?" Iron Mask asked in his usual monotone.

Marco Croft
The City, the Forest
A Begining

It was a sunny day. Marco could tell because he felt the warmth of the sun, reaching out almost caressing the very city with it's rays of light. As he walked along the street he heard people mumbling and grumbling about the weather, talking on cell phones or just deep in thought. Marco enjoyed it when people were deep in thought, their breathing becomes very collected, rythmic even. He smiled slightly and continued on, his skin cooled down again as the sun moved behind a cloud, but something was wrong.

People were silent, not just quiet, but silent. Marco couldn't even hear them breathing anymore. The ground shook, Marco held tight to his walking stick for support and moved to his left where his favourite coffee shop should be but the windows were gone, as if broken. But he heard no shatter. He tried to keep walking but it felt as if he was... falling? No, he heard nor felt the air rushing past him, and he did not hit the sidewalk he was just standing on. He was worried, scared... yet oddly curious as to what he was experiencing. Was it death? Is this what it was like to die?

A cackle broke the silence, no human cackle though. It was unsavoury in every possible way, the way it sounded almost felt like shards of ice ripping through his lungs. He gasped invoulentarily and brought up his cane in defence and he was warm again. The sun was shining brightly once more, and Marco laid on... grass. There was no sounds of automobiles, no grumbling people... no people to be heard at all. Birds. Birds were somewhere nearby and Marco heard many of them, all sorts too. He was definantly not in the city anymore, maybe not in his world. Laughter, his own laughter.

"You're getting too much into one of your own stories there Marco." He spoke to himself with a smile. He sat up and began groping for his walking stick, finding it he stood up and tried to hear sounds of life, voices or even foot steps. Whether live, dead, asleep or awake finding someone else seemed like the best idea. Hearing what sounded like footfalls, far in the distance Marco headed off slowly, feeling his way with his cane occasionally stopping to listen again.

Nina MacMurchada
Garage, forest
I promise to be careful....

--

"Nina! I'm going to the store! And remember, don't try to fight with your sword lit on fire again!"

"No, Mom! Just polishing it!"

If you or I were there, we could have told her that Windex polishes a lot better than Crisco. She dipped her rag in the small cylinder, wiping the congealed oil all along the blade of her battle-ready sword, careful not to put it too low or make it drip. This she did until the sound of a car powering up then driving away was complete.

The she went to the back of the garage, coming back with the extra large wooden safety matches. Nina struck one and lit the sword. Then she dueled an invisible enemy for several minutes, feeling that she was a very dangerous swordfighter (but in actuality, she would have been laughed at by anyone with even moderate sword experience).

Finally, she was done. Nina thought of her good luck, how none of the Crisco had dripped and left marks on the floor. But the smell was strong, so after putting her sword in a full kiddie pool, she went to get some air freshener and various materials to erase the evidence of her sparing match.

Suddenly, a vague, inhuman laughter erupted.

"Someone's in the house! A thief! Taste my blade, rogue!" Nina cried out, lunging back for her sword.

She didn't remember tripping, but for some reason she was falling, well before getting near her sword. The laughing continued, much to her annoyance, and was the only tangible thing she recognized as she went everlastingly down, besides the wind. Yet somehow all of it was calming.

"Alright...this is some sort of adventure, like Star Trek....I must remain as calm as Spock, yet as clever as Kirk...I'mma kill that laughing guy..."

Suddenly her eyes opened. A forest. Grass. Peace.

"How odd...well, they say you're supposed to stay in one place and wait for someone to find you...but I don't expect anyone knows I'm gone, and they couldn't come find me, wherever I am. Mom won't notice until she gets back, and probably she'll think I'm at work, anyway. Huh..."

She pulled back the strap of her backpack, only now remembering that it had been on her during the sparring. And she wandered off, wishing that she had a phaser.

Garret was having some trouble running, it was not from fatigue but from his sore foot. At first Garret thought the man had sprayed his ankle but he was still able to walk on it. They had been running for over an hour and Garret could not keep going on his foot.

"Stop!" Garret gasped, "I need to rest, my ankle is killin me."

"Alright, we can stop for five minutes, but then we have to keep going." The man said forcefully.

"I've been with you for over an hour and I still don’t know your name?"

"My name is not important right now," the man replied. "Now we must move on."

The man helped Garret to his feet and the two of them started to run once more.

They ran for another twenty or so minutes when they broke into a field. Both runners stopped. It was a large field and lying in the middle was a man with sunglasses on and a cane.

"Good, we have found one of them," the man said

"One of who?” Garret asked.

"One of the others," the man replied.

Moving post into here for Sirion.

Intro Post:

2.51. 3.71. 4.94. 5.50...

The numbers on the small digital display continued to rise at what seemed to be an exponential rate and the frown on Adam's face increased proportionately. Gas was so damn expensive. He stood idly by his car waiting for it fill up. Adam looked around the the area briefly; there wasn't much activity even though it was close to eight in the morning.

Adam slowly reached up and ran his slim fingers through his thin black hair, and then stopped at the side of his face. He readjusted the glasses on his face, even though there was no need to. He felt slightly awkward simply standing around waiting for the gas to fill.

As he waited, another car pulled over to the other side of the pump, and a young female stepped out of the car. She made eye-contact with Adam, smiled, and then quickly looked away.

Adam continued to a wait, listening to the sound of the gas pouring into the tank, and smelling the nausea-inducing scent of gasoline. He begun to tap a random song from memory onto the frame of the car. Shortly afterwards, the pump clicked off.

Adam picked it up, tilted the last remaining drops out of the nozzle to insure he got every drop that he paid for, and returned it to it's rightful place on the pump where it could wait for its next victim. He looked at the terminal, which stated over thirty dollars of gas, with less than half that amount of gallons being dispensed.

Adam sighed and roughly pushed the a few buttons on the terminal to stop the incessant beeping asking whether he wanted a receipt. As he walked, he noticed that his surroundings became dull. His eyes drifted to the sky, assuming to see a large cloud blocking the morning sun.

However, what he saw startled him. There were no clouds, and the blue sky was replaced by a deep, scarlet thread. Adam felt his feet lock into the ground, and a cold shiver run through his spine. That sight alone was more than Adam needed to know that something terrible was happening.

To amplify his fear, the ground began to rumble. Slowly at first, but the intensity increased. Adam had experienced an earthquake before, but this was far different. His mind attempted to rationalize everything that happened, but nothing could come to his mind. He was not religious, but he remembered his father talking of a doomsday. Was this it?

Adam began to look for shelter, and then he felt the ground pull away from him. He felt as if he was on a trampoline, and the ground had been yanked out from underneath him. He looked at the ground, and it dissolved away, and Adam was surrounded by darkness.

He attempted to reach around, but there was nothing around him. There was no up; there was no down. There was nothing.

"Where am I?" Adam called out, his voice crackling from fear.

In return, all he heard was laughter. Evil, maniacal laughter. That laughter made Adam cringe. It was the most hideous thing he had ever heard.

He slowly began to feel a tug. A sense of direction, something pulling him down. The world began to rematerialize, and Adam saw ground. And he was falling towards it, head first.

He extended his arms, and attempted to straighten himself out and was semi-successful. He landed on his knees, and quickly got to his feet. He was in a wooded area. A forest. A dark forest.

Adam quickly spun around. His breathing was heavy, and his heart-rate was increased. For the first time in his life, he was terrified.

OOC: Hey everyone, see Sirion's first post for my intro post. I used the same character for the old L&D, and it was just a copy and paste. I didn't expect Sirion to post my first post, but he did (I shouldn't have sent it to him, my bad). I'm going to change the ending of my post a little, so... yeah. Just imagine him landing on his head rather hard.
---

The sunlight trickled through the thick canopy of the dense forest, covering Adam in specks of light which rippled through through the forest as the wind blew. Adam Zahi, dressed in a pair of jeans and a dark t-shirt, was lying sprawled out on the forest floor unconscious.

He slowly stirred to life, and pushed himself off the ground slowly, looking around at his surroundings. The forest floor stuck to his shirt and hair, and Adam brushed them off as he slowly rose to his feet. His right ankle was aching with pain, and he had hit the ground fairly hard causing him to black out momentarily.

Adam stood up, and looked around, hoping to see someone or something to tell him where he was. He didn't see any signs of civilization or anything. Adam hobbled over to a nearby tree, and crouched down next to it, adjusting the thin glasses on his face, and then running his slender fingers through his dark hair.

He thought back to what happened, and as he did, he felt a empty, paralyzing fear in his gut. He felt scared; actually, he was terrified. What the hell just happened, and what was going on he thought. None of it made sense which worried him even more.

Adam quickly stood up, and adrenalin begin to pump through his system. He immediately remembered his cellphone, and reached down into his pocket, and shuffled through it before grabbing his phone. He pulled it out, and flipped it open.... and realized that he had no service.

Despite this, he attempted to make a few calls, and even tried 911 before he shoved the phone back in his pocket. Adam stood around for a minute, and contemplated what he should do. He didn't know whether to sit tight, and wait for someone to come find him or if he should move out attempting to find someone. Realizing that sitting in one area was probably a bad idea, Adam stood up and looked at the skies through the canopy.

Through the thick forest of trees, he saw the general direction of the sun. It had been early in the morning before Adam left, and he figured that the time should be the same. Aligning himself, he arbitrarily picked a direction and muttering a small prayer, begin walking West.

Singing in the trees

---

"And now that your rose is in bloom, a light hits the gloom on the grave!!!"

Nina sang loudly, trying to avoid boredom, and for the moment, not at all worried that she wouldn't find food or water, because she knew that with all these trees and all the grass, there had to be a good water source. But for the most part, she was thankful to be alone. She, as a little white girl, had no real right to sing a Seal song and expect to sound any good at all. That didn't stop her, however, until she began to think about it.

"Wait! What if my singing only attracts my enemies? What if they're watching me right now?"

Suddenly she became quiet and alert, looking around in all directions. For many meters she walked this way (she was used to the walking; one does that when one doesn't have a car), and when her short attention span dwindled, a random sound would appear, and she would regain her alertness.

But one time, the sounds weren't simply the wind, or branches, or anything of the plant sort. It was clearly footsteps, of a lone person. Peering from around the tree, she saw someone in jeans and a dark t-shirt.

"Hello!" she said. "Are you an inhabitant of this land? Where...oh wait...do...you...speak....eeeeennglishh?"

"Hello!" Adam heard a voice call towards him as he walked through the forest. He looked up at the woman, slightly startled. She had a slighlty freckled face, and was fairly tall, and Adam guessed that she was around his age.

"Are you an inhabitant of this land? Where...oh wait...do...you...speak....eeeeennglishh?" The woman asked, turning towards Adam.

"Uhh, yeah, I speak English, no I don't live here," Adam said all at once walking towards the woman. The twigs and underbrush snapped and cracked as he walked through a particularly dense part of the forest towards her.

"Do you have any idea where we are?" Adam said, as he approached her. He stood about five feet away from her, and crouched down next to a large tree, leaning against it for support. His ankle still hurt slightly, but it was feeling better.

As he waited for her to answer, he looked around at his surroundings, observing the serenity of it all. If he wasn't so confused and so frightened, he would have been enjoying himself. Another thing that startled him was that he hadn't seen any type of wildlife in the forest. No birds, no insects, nothing... and that was what worried him. The woman began to speak, and Adam faced her, and looked back at her, making-eye contact.

The woman did not know her location, and Adam continued. "I was pumping gas, and the next thing I knew, the sky turned red and I, uhh... I think I fell here, if that makes any sense. This is freaky."

Adam and the woman stood around for a few seconds, before Adam introduced himself and said, "Oh, my names Adam."

"Okay, here's the plan. First we try to do something about that limp of yours, then we look around and try to see if anybody else is here. If we can determine a connection between everybody here, then we can know why that dude brought us....cause that's it sounds like. Did you ever see that episode of Star Trek where the lizard-thingy and Kirk got sent down to a weird planet to fight to the death? ---

Adam sighed deeply, and closed his eyes. He leaned back against a dark tree he was by, ignoring the bitter-sweet sappy smell emanating from it. His tanned skin glistened wtih a fine sheen of sweat, and a strong breeze blew through the forest rustling the leaves, creating a calm soothing sound.

Adam was in a forest, lost in a place that he didn't know and stuck with someone who couldn't seem to take things seriously. Adam was still frightened; he had seen the sky melt into a scarlet red, and then he had been sucked into this world. The thought of the maniacal laughter he heard sent shivers down his spine. Despite his panicked state, he did not show much fear on his face, though, he was sure he looked distraught.

"My ankle's fine. It just hurts a bit when I put weight on it, but I can walk and jog. The pain has been going away, and I think I can just walk it off," Adam replied after a brief silence to Nina. He ignored her Star Trek question, and slowly rose to his feet brushing the twigs and dirt off of his pants.

"Nina, where do you think we should go next? Where were you coming from before you saw me?"

"Oh I came pretty much straight from back there," she responded absentmindedly, as she was trying to figure out what to do. "and I was walking for a while. This forest is really, really big, so we're gonna have to start concentrating on survival first. You're kinda hurt, and since we don't know where to go, there's no real point in walking anywhere. But what we'll do is this: first we get some firewood, and you start the fire. I've got matches-lot's of 'em- so that's not gonna be a problem. Then you keep the fire going and put lots of green stuff in it, so that the smoke will be a signal to anybody else around, while I go off a little ways to see if there's any food or water or stuff. Um, hey, you wouldn't happen to have like a tarp or something water repellent, would you?"

Ted
Doing what nerds do.
-------

Ted walked down the sidewalk, just like he had done just about every other time he went somewhere, living in huge city made driving more of a nuisance than it was worth most of the time.

He walked in the daze of someone who had taken that same path a hundereds of times before, only paying attention enough not to run into something, he was absently fidgeting with the ipod, playing his millionth game of solitare on the thing, and hoping to add a second win to his record. Of course, the music was cranked up so that anyone within five feet could hear what he was listening to, not that he cared much.

He heard an explosion, and kept walking for a few steps to see what was most likely a moderately interesting wreck somewhere on the street beside him.

Everything had taken on a distinctly trashed look.

"Looks like hell out of Constantine...."

The toothpick he had been chewing on until this point fell out of his mouth, tinking on the trashed sidewalk.

He heard some genericly ominous voice yell something at him, it sounded like something out of cheap video game plot, or one of the lines he'd use when he DM'd at 3 in the morning.

"I must be seeing shit. No way anything this cool happens to me, wonder if I'll pick up superpowers. Bah, I probably just tripped and hit my head."

A few seconds later he saw nothing but blackness, then an quite possibly the most generic fantasy novel forest he'd ever seen. He shrugged.

"I suppose I just walk until I get ambushed by a pack of elves with longbows."

He unpaused his ipod, it had a habit of pausing itself every so often, because the cheapass headphones kept messing up. Once he had some random rock music blasting, and no doubt making him as unstealthy as possible, he started walking again, in a more or less arbitrary direction.

*****

Every inch of John's body ached with pain. He'd never run like this before in his life, and his normally laid back career didn't help. A scientist should be in a lab, not running like a madman through the woods. Under any normal circumstances...but these weren't normal circumstances. John had to keep reminding himself.

Suddenly Mike slowed down. Unable to stop himself in time, John slammed into Mike. They both hit the ground, hard, instantly knocking the wind out of John.

"You guys getting up sometime soon?" John looked up to see Jason, standing over them with an arrogant smirk.

"Shut the hell up. I don't need some brat pushing me around." John said in a voice full of malice. That smile was too much for him. This ended now, before it began. John couldn't deal with a retard screwing up his plans. He had enough people messing up his work at home, he didn't need another one here.

Jason's face hardened as he stepped closer to John. "There is no reason why I have to listen to you. Your just a hallucination. You should be listening to me, and me only."

"We're here." Said Iron Mask. While Jason and John had been fighting, he had found a hatch in the ground. "Down here. Others will be coming soon. Hurry."

Still annoyed, John stepped toward the hatch and looked down. A drop to a floor that seemed like a few hundred feet away, illuminated by some sort of lantern. John glanced at the sides of the entrance. No ladder, rope, stairs, nothing.

"I don't see what we-" Something contacted his back, sending him careening into the darkness.

I notice that the man in the Iron mask stops in a small clearing. As I begin to slow down, John crashes into me, I hit the ground with a hard thud and begin to rise noticing that Jason and John are arguing.

"Will they never quit?" I think to myself.

"We're here." Said Iron mask.

By this time I am at my feet, and so is John he begins walking toward the hole Iron mask had opened.

"I don't see what we-" John began to say as Jason pushed him into the hole.

"Why did you do that? you IDOIT!" I yell at Jason.

"Who cares?" Jason asked, "You're all just hallucinations anyway."

"He will be fine." The Iron masked man said in that same monotonal voice.

Suddenly all I see is darkness, Jason, and the Iron masked man, but as quickly as it came the darkness dissipates into a cave which appears to have enough rations to live off for quite some time, fresh water, a hole leading to what I assumed was where we just were, and atthe far end, there was a small hole so oxygen could circulate however this hole was not large enough for escape should we need to. Looking around some more, I noticed the walls were covered in what appeared to be ivy vines.

"Good some plant life I don't think that hole could support oxygen for us all." I thought.

I heard a loud scream comming from the hole in the ceiling, John came roaring out, but was stopped in midair, and turned so his feet were facing the ground. He then continued to fall and landed on his feet.

"Hey John, that was rather slow of you." I said to him as I smiled. " I don't know quite where we are, but there's food and water, and nothing can get in or out, so we should be safe here."

John's fall from the hole confirmed my suspicion that it led to the outside world, but how far underground we were, I did not know, I could only assume it was quite a ways down.

---

Adam raised his right arm, which glistened with sweat, and used his tanned hand to cover his eyes from the glare of the sun as he watched Nina nimbly climb a tree to gather some fruit. He had protested eating the fruit, as he figured it might not be healthy but Nina had already indulged herself and was plucking more for her backpack. The fruit was a scarlet red, and if Adam remembered correctly, red berries and fruit were a sign of poison. Adam was hungry, but figured he'd wait to see if Nina keeled over and died before trying the fruit.

"WHO'S THERE?" Nina suddenly shouted. Adam froze, and he suddenly heard the breaking branches of twigs around him as someone or something approached them. Adam was not frightened, he hadn't seen wildlife and he assumed that more people were in the forest as he was.

"Don't be startled," A man said, as he came into view. He had reddish-brown hair, and was several inches shorter than Adam. "I'm just a little lost is all, I'm guessing you are too actually."

"Yeah, we're lost as well. Name's Adam," Adam said as he walked towards the man, and stuck out his for a handshake. He stood for a few seconds, realizing that the man was not going to take his hand. Adam looked at the man's eyes, and saw that they were not focusing on him, and then Adam's eyes jumped to the man's hand -- and he saw a walking-stick. It didn't take much longer for Adam to realize that the man was blind.

"I'm Marco," he introduced.

Adam looked sheepishly back at Nina, "We, well, there's another girl up in that tree - there's a fruit tree over in front of you. She's plucking fruit. Her name's Nina, and we're lost here as well. How did you get here?" Adam asked the man, explaining things more clearly to the man seeing that he was blind. Adam wasn't sure if the man would be offended that he was taking the extra-time to be clear with him, or if he'd be pleased. He'd never dealt with a blind person before.

Adam sighed. He was now stuck with a girl who he didn't like too much and couldn't take things seriously and a blind-man. What were the odds...

"Ah!" They screamed in unison. This may have been a little unexpected.

"Don't worry, I'm here to help. Just follow me and you'll be safe." I explained calmly. I new they wouldn't come that easily, but a small manipulation of the mind would set things right. I concetrated hard. The leader, he was all I needed.

The swooshing of air and the sudden cracking of twigs below was all Adam heard as the masked-man jumped from the tree. Adam, not expecting anything of that nature, fell back from surprise onto his back. He quickly jumped to his feet. What the hell was man with a mask doing in a forest, Adam thought. Things were not looking good.

"Don't worry, I'm here to help. Just follow me and you'll be safe." the man said mysteriously, in a very calm and collected voice. He looked at the three, and then towards Adam again.

Adam immediately had his doubts. This man had jumped from a tree, and was now offering to help. Despite the awkward situation, Adam innately felt inclined to believe him -- he didn't seem as if he had any malicious intentions.

Adam was silent for a moment, before slowly saying, "Where are we, and what are you helping us from?" He cocked an eyebrow at the man. Even though he was now certain the man wouldn't attack or harm him in anyway, he was still suspicious. He also had a lot of unanswered questions.

Adam stood silent for a moment, and nodded. "That's true, Marco, however I'm still so confused, I would just like to know what's going on. First, the sky turns red, and then I hear this laughter and I end up in a forest -- that's a weird chain of events if you ask me."

Adam slowly turned towards the masked man, and then towards Marco, temporarily ignoring Nina. He wondered what the masked man would have to say...

OOC: I'm ending this intro. Be assured that anyone can still join! Also, it seems that nobody responded to Brandolf's post. I'm assuming he found 3 and the others, and that he came in after all of the posts. Ignore my note. If you want, post a vision. It's up to you. Thanks.

"We are leaving, now."

I turned to leave. They would follow. Or he would make them follow. It didn't matter either way, his only objective was to get the humans to the location.

"Hi," Said a strange voice, one I hadn't heard before. I turned slowly. 2 and another human stood and sat respectively.

"You only got one?"

"Call it luck."

Suddenly the earth beneath them began to shake. The humans began to shout, startled. Something about an earthquake? I smiled. The bend was working well. We would end up in the location within a few seconds.

The Cave
Betrayal
*****
John moved to the side of the cavern as another man fell into the cave, this one from the top. That was twelve, not including the masked men.

"Good. We're all here."

"Now, lets complete the job."

Job? Whatever that meant, John didn't like it. The cold sounds of steel being drawn came from the men. Back against the wall, John stood in terror as they drew swords, long and devilish ones whose silver shine had been blackened by blood and rust.

"You die now, for our lord and leader."

John closed his eyes. He expected some kind of sound, some kind of pain. But not a tugging feeling. Not a breeze, and a sudden softness beneath his feet. He opened his eyes to see himself standing on top of a grass covered hill, surrounded by green plains and basking in a glorius sunlight..

"They hid you from me." Said someone. Or something. It instantly filled John with fear and awe. It scared him, at the same time as comforting him, "You are special, my friend. You and those who have known you are going to be the few, those who survive."

John closed his eyes. Someone was screaming. Something lit up, so bright that it made John flinch. And then silence. John opened his eyes to see himself inside the cave, a large opening where none had been, and all eleven other humans with there backs against the wall, looking absolutely terrified. The three bloody bodies of the masked men lay on the ground, surrounding the source of the light.

John couldn't believe his eyes. Was that an...angel? Whatever it was, it had wings. Glorius wings, seemingly amplifying any light in the dark cavern to create a crystaline appearance. The person who owned these things of beauty was no less amazing. She had a perfect appearance, and a slim figure that would have gotten her any man, human or not. Her brown hair stood out against the light, which gave her blue eyes and fair skin a shimmering glow The armor she wore shined almost as brightly as her wings, giving her a more unearthly, if possible, appearance.

"I...am a friend."

Ted had been chewing on yet another toothpick. It was one of those australian ones that tasted like tea leaves and was intended for chewing, for those that cared.

He'd been taking everything sarcasticaly until now. His jaw hung limp and the toothpick tinked to the floor, not that he noticed. He also lacked notice of the dead guys, who he'd never seen before anyways.

"Uh...uh...angel?"

Even though he had been expecting odd fantasy-movie happenings, this still suprised him. Or maybe it was just seeing a woman this hot. Whatever it was, didn't supress his personality quite long enough.

"Umm....would someone care to tell me....JUST WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!?"

EH?

" These rations are pretty good eh?" I asked anyone who would answer.

The answer I got was a loud crash as more men entered the room I counted 12 + 3 men in iron masks. I began to worry about the motives of these men, all wearing iron masks, all seeming to want to help.

"Good. We're all here."
"No, lets complete the job."
"You die now, for our lord and leader."
The three said one after the other.

I began thinking to myself, this may be the end, I began feeling a coldness encircling my body as I closed my eyes, opening them thinking I am dead I realize that in fact I am in an icy plain where even the grassblades have frozen solid nearly entirly covering their green colour.

Is this death I began to wonder to myself, thinking that this must be heaven, because hell was supposed to be fire and brimstone.

"You are not dead, you are safe I am here to help." The voice was soft and warm, almost completly removing the icy chill from my bones.

I closed my eyes as the voice began to take shape, its form was the shape of an angel, whos wings shimmered as if they were made of silver. Her hair was brown which set off her amazing lue eyes which seemed to be peering into your soul. It was at this point I realized my eyes were actually open, and that i was in the cave, the men dead and all that was life was this beautiful angel. My mouth nearly hit the floor, I was left confused as to what had occured, yet happy that the men who were to harm me were dead.

"I...am a friend." The angel said in a voice so soft and warm, you could not help but believe her.

Nina stood up, proudly recounting every Star Trek episode she could that seemed to be related to this situation. Instantly a speech formed in her mind.

"I am Nina MacMurchada of Southerland, California, and it is very nice to meet you, though it would be preferable under different circumstances. Tell me, what is your name, creature of light? And if it isn't any bother, why are we here? Do you need our services? We would be glad to assist you if it goes to aid universal peace."

She smiled confidently, glad that she had decided not to try out a Scottish accent at the last minute.

Adam Zahi
---

The moist blades of grass felt cool and unnaturally soft beneath Adam's bare feet. The curled around his toes, and feet, and the sudden happiness he was feeling was only amplified by the soft, diffused light of the warm sun shining down on him. He felt as if nothing mattered anymore, not his life nor anything -- he was here and that's all that he wanted to do.

As quick as it had appeared, the world of wonder begin to slowly fade from his existence, and he suddenly felt a very light-headed feeling, and he felt dizzy. It wasn't the common disorienting dizziness, he realized, it was the kind that made him unable to differentiate directions. He didn't know which was up, down, left or right... nothing made sense.

He then heard a voice, a female voice, coming from behind him. "You are uniqe, my friend. You have a special ability; you will be ones who will survive,"

Adam slowly turned around, feeling that if he moved too quickly he'd lose consciousness or become even more disoriented and confused then he was. He then, caught glimpse of the magnificent woman. Her voice had a certain command to it, however, she had a certain passion in it as well. It was almost the words that a mother would give to her child; Adam sensed. Adam stepped away the second he realized she wasn't human. She had... wings, however, he ... didn't believe in an afterlife. Adam's eyes widened with fear, and he began to back away.

Adam opened his mouth to speak, but found himself being tugged downwards. Within seconds, he was careening through the fictional world of light towards the cavern that he had been in

Adan's eyes shot open, and he exhaled deeply. Beads of sweat dotted his brow, and his shirt was damp. He continued to look around, clinging onto the euphoric feeling that was fading. He glanced around the cavern, and saw the three men in front of him, all dead. This was the first time Adam had seen dead bodies so close to him, yet it didn't disturb him. Nothing disturbed him, right now. He was happy. He was euphoric.

"Are...are you an...angel?" Was the only thing John could blurt out. The thing in front of him filled him with fear, at the same time as radiating joyfullness. The feeling was so...different.

"No...I am not. An Angel is a fictional creature...I am a servant of the Light. You need to come with me, now." Replied the creature. The light began to fade, the cave returned to darkness and the joy and fear left. As she turned to leave, a girl stepped forward.

The creature glanced back, "Just follow me."

Others grumbled and shouted. They trusted once, they wouldn't trust again so easily. But John knew that for whatever reason, this woman was trustworthy. He began to walk alongside her, and others followed.

She paused, turned slightly, and softly said "You can call me Aadi."

Aadi walked out, and the twelve humans followed.

Adam continued to follow this so-called creature of light. Things were so far beyond comprehension now, his brain had seemed to shut off, and not even try to put logic behind what was going on. He simply accepted everything that happened to him at this point.

Adam walked up slowly to the man who was following the creature of light, called Aadi. He reached out, and touched him on the shoulder, to get his attention.

"Hey. I'm Adam," Adam introduced, his voice coming out much more softer than he wanted.

Divine divinity
-----------------
I find myself perplexed, how can a creature of such beauty commit murder, even to save the lives of twelve young men. I begin to let my mind wonder, maybe she isn't an angel, but merly a pawn of the leader of the iron masked men just trying to trick us so she can destroy us in the same gruesome manner of which she dispatched the iron masked men.

NO! I told myself, something of such beauty could not commit such an offence of her own will, she must be sent by some greater being.

I stopped myself, there is no greater being, or at least I know I don't believe in some greater being. What is going on? At which point my mind drifted back into reality.

"You can call me Aadi." I heard the angel say with that same warmth that I heard on that icy felid.

She appeared to be walking away, did I miss something, I decided rather quickly that I must follow her for a man only sees such divine beauty once in a life time, John was in front of me and I followed closely behind.

"So you think we can trust her, she looks trustable." I wisper to John so as not to upset the others who were following aswell, once again putting their trust in an unknown stranger claiming to be here to help.

OOC: Guys, I really would appreciate it if you wouldn't ignore my posts, and just work whatever you want around them.

Nina was thoroughly annoyed. How could this Aadi just ignore her like that? Of course that really wasn't what annoyed her, being as plenty of people in high school had treated her no better. Then again, if they had been the same as Aadi, what made Aadi so special?

But in any case, it was the part about "angels are ficticious" that particularly annoyed her. Sure, Star Trek would have said the same thing, but heck, that was Star Trek. Everyone knows that Gene Roddenberry was an avid atheist. What was a "servant of Light" anyway? Wouldn't "angel" work as a word so that humans would understand? It occured to Nina that "servant of Light" didn't refer to any sort of species.

Looking at Aadi, something inside Nina wanted to trust her. But she didn't, mostly from having been scorned and watching too many episodes of Star Trek where the good guy turned out bad. Nina looked around. Everyone else seemed to adore her; they were almost entranced. She secretly vowed to watch out for them, making certain to not let them do anything stupid. She would follow for now.

John stepped out of the Cave to find himself in the darkening light of the evening. In front of him were seemingly endless fields of lush green grass, outlined by forests that must've been thousands of miles away. The sun was setting in the east, which striked John as odd. But he could care less, as the next words Aadi spoke filled him with joy.

"When it gets dark, we will move. For then ext hour or so, you can rest here and talk. Water is in the cave if you want it, and the bodies are gone."

John plopped down on the grass and began staring at the sky.

Deja - vu?
---------------------

As we left the cage, I couldn't help but stare at this beautiful angel. Evertthing is perfect about her I thought. A creature of such immense and how those men were on the ground, dead just lying there.

We came upon a feild of grass outlined by trees, which felt very familiar, No it couldn't be I thought or maybe it could. The grass the entire area for that matter was exactally like the one from that scene in my mind back in the cave. Although this one had been unfrozen, and we were all here, not just me.

I noticed an old log which several of the others ammear to hav missed, so I decided to sit down and re-assess, maybe see if I can figure out if this angel really did kill those three men.

Sorry I was gone but not like it really mattered I’m being ignored. This will be my last post for two weeks I’m going to Mexico for a while so somebody can use my character if they need him, but if not he can just fallow around everybody until I get back.

Garret had been wondering about this Aadi person, he wasn’t quite sure if she could be trusted, for one thing she had not hesitated at all before killing all three iron masked men, and the fact that Garret had never trusted people easily. Garret thought about what he should do next as he sat beside the little pool of water playing with and elastic and a rock he had found. Garret had finaly decided that he might as well just trust Aadi because he had no other choice and before he knew it everybody was on there feet.
