View Full Version : The sounds that should not be...

Pretty straightfoward thread. What music and songs do you simply loathe? Try to be more specific on a particular song or band if you will, because we all know that no-one likes rap anyway.
At the moment I'm just sick of hearing "Smile" by Lily Allen. Normally, I can tolerate listening to all the RnB crap while I'm at work, but this song is just in a class of it's own. I'm sure that it's a "good" song in it's own rights, being so popular and being sold well and such, but I for one simply cannot stand that goddamn chorus on it. I'm going to leave it there because writing about it means I have to think about it, and it's not the sort of tune I like to keep in my head before i lay down to sleep...
(Yeah I'm aware it can lead to people bashing other people's music and petty-bitch fights, but now that I've stated that I'm aware of it, You're aware of it too. So no pathetic arguing when you here someone say that Kylie Minogue is the worst singer ever to walk the planet, ok?)
So yeah, what bands or songs can't you stand?

Oh god snap! They were just about tolerable before they released that album (American Idiot that is) but a few songs on that CD are just...ugh...wrong. Boulevard being one of the main ones...

I'll join that bandwagon. Green Day is loathsome, and their voices are so uninspired and boring.
Meh, I hate most all modern alternative rock (cause every band sounds the same, ugh), country (because the lyrics are boring), and rap (there hasn't been an original rap song in like, 5 years. It's just "slap that hooker" or "drugs and addiction" or "my ride is pimp" over and over).

Can't stand Vanetha Carlton. Most annoying whiny voice, and she's got a lithp. Nothing against that normally, but in that song that was famous she ruined it.
I love the new Lily Allen album, won't here anything against it.
Also hate Slipknot, because they're crap. They've got a half-decent drummer, rest of them = crap.

I listen to rap, and I've been branching out lately. Friends gave me some old Metallica, Nirvanna, etc. cd's, and they're all right. I can't stand songs that just have an electric guitar with way too much distortion and just yelling in the background. That ain't music, IMO

Neither is hearing synthetic bumps in the background with a couple clicks and whistles with barely intelligible/unoriginal lyrics.
Sounds I hate... country (I like a few country songs, but I can't stand most of them), "death" metal or any other genre that's one single electric guitar tune and guttoral screaming about shit you can't understand without listening to it a billion times... probably think of more later.

Okay, I hate country music. Period. And as my friend always says," you cant spell crap without rap." Which is actually a true statement. Try and spell crap without rap :D

Listen to bands (especially the British ones) like Razorlight, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters. I think you will find you are VERY far from the mark with that statement.

I basically hate all alt rock now. Alternative used to mean what it's name suggested, that it was a music that wasn't popular and was out there as another option besides crappy 80's pop that was dying.
Then, the 90's took alt rock and turned it into the shit we have today. Pop music as the 90's knew it doesn't exist anymore (Counting Crows, Nine Days, New Radicals) and many of those bands (aforementioned bands) were pretty good for their genre. That's left for me this wide vacuum that makes radio essentially unlistenable anymore.
Also, I like a lot of pop-punk and I branched out into emo/screamo (and don't fucking make me lecture you on what the difference is between emo and pop-punk) once the poppy bands like Fall Out Boy and Academy Is... began to define what bands in the pop-punk scene had to sound like.
Also, SKA annoys me. For something so closely related to punk music, it's just too upbeat.

I personally like ska, but i agree with the rest. Radio really is unlistenable. What's with this "fallout boy" band? It's so annoying all their songs sound the same.

Okay emo music sucks now but all the old bands at the forefront of the scene back in the 90's (yes the 90's for everyone who thought emo was a recent thing) like Sunny Day Real Estate were good. Brand New is more recent but were around before the scene exploded with the popularity of bands like Hawthorne Heights. Old emo wasnt popular like it is now but was way better.
Pop-punk bands all sound the same now. band like Fall Out Boy honestly ruined everything. Every band out of Chicago (which is like pop-punk heaven) sound like Fall Out Boy. So in essence the scene is ruined. Very few bands are good like Taking Back Sunday (not sure if they belong here) and Head Automatica or Angels And Airwaves.
Very few bands nowadays sound different from everyone else but the RX Bandits are one of those bands. They make thought provoking music and sound different and better than everyone else. And punk is dead.

Worst songs EVER:
The Final Countdown - Europe
Monay Monay - Billy Idol
Dreamweaver - I don't even f*cking know who wrote that POS.
The all time worst song, however...
We Built This City on Rock and Roll - Starship
I'm going to go be sick now...

I wouldn't say punk is dead.
Some bands are still left standing, such as Rancid.
And yes, rap is crap, so is hop-hop, pop, and all that crap.

I think that new music today don't have alot of creativity. Everything's been done and it's gonna be the same thing, which will make music boring in the long run. I'm not into the new stuff. If you don't like the oldies, you don't know what rock is all about.

Ooh, this is going to take a while.
First of all, I fucking hate pop rock, like Simple Plan or Good Charlotte. The annoy the hell out of me.
I also hate trance and hardcore, that stuff is absolute shite and onions.
Queen is also godawful, it's just agonisingly gay. (oh no! I can already hear Biiicycle! Biiiicycle! ringing in my ears :o)
I've never heard Gore Metal, but with band names like 'Cannibal Corpse' and 'Gore Fest' I can just tell it's crap.
I hate Lordi, those Finnish dudes. How can anyone take them seriously.
Hip-hop can be OK, but I hate most of it. Exceptions are K-OS and Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP.
I also dislike most brit pop. Some of it is brilliant, but some bands, like The Doves or Coldplay are disappointing. They have good music, but then the singer is a whiny loser with the singing equivalent of sleep walking.
The song I probably hate most i Bicycle by Queen. OMFG it's so stupid.

I found that the only worth while songs for Queen are "Another one Bites the dust", "Show must go on" and "We will fu-- er rock you".
I also hate music by a local band name Paraziti. Their songs are composed entirely of cursing.
