Hi, i would like to know how i can get access to mine or my girlfriends router externally. What i mean by this is so that i can get up the page where you login and can change the services etc for opeining ports sorta thing. I know how to use telnet a little, but cant seem to connect to either on the supposedly open ports such as 80 which i thought would be open as it hosts a webserver using html over lan. Doesnt this apply for WAN connecting externally? i dont see why it cant because it requires a user and pass for the router so security shouldnt be an issue or do i have to host a service on the router an if so how would i do this? Please help as i am new to all this and rather inexperienced in remote connection etc, a brief tutorial would be nice...i was also wondering if the fact that my router has a built in firewall could be stiopping this? its a netgear dg834 if your wondering...thx

There is usually an option on the router page, for example on my ancient Linksys BEFSR81:

http://timbo87.home.comcast.net/temp/remote.png

Then type in the IP address (http://www.whatismyip.com) from any computer. Obviously, make sure you have a strong password (not admin ;)) since anyone will have access to the router now. So if the IP address was 1.2.3.4, you would visit http://1.2.3.4:8080.
