Ok, so im playing my usual games warcraft 3 tft and guild wars whilst chatting to my gf on msn. I alt tab out of guild wars during a load into a new area and when i tab back into it again, theres no respose so i ctrl alt del the game planning on starting it up again. The strange thing is that now whenever i open up either of my games, the graphics are completely messed up...the screen is nearly all black with certain parts being displayed such as tiny details in warcraft that i recognise from the main menu.

Thinking that guild wars was the problem, i uninstalled it but warcraft is still the same and im not bothering to install guild wars until the problem is fixed. I have checked things like the drivers for my graphics card which is a Gefoorce mx440 and it is all up to date. I also went through the tests for DirectX which all came back successfully and i can watch full screen vids etc in media player. I even tried a system restore which made no difference to a time when the problem wasnt there but it made no difference so ive returned it to now.

What on earth am i supposed to do as ive tried everything i can think of. Both games are patched etc, so i know it cant be that. I was wondering maybe if my graphics card is broken, but dont understand if it was why everything else still works. Please help as im on the verge of buying a new graphics card and dont even know if it will sort the problem.

Gefoorce mx440

That's the problem. IT FUCKING SUCKS. I couldn't play Rome with it. It just sucks. Try reinstaling wc. Other wise the only solution I found was to get another graphic card. I tryed to make it work but MX 440 is beyond redemption.

Ye but the games i play arent too graphics intensive, and theyve worked with those games for the last two years. I cant see any reason why they should just stop working all of a sudden???

Dude. This is not a helpful post.

He's having problem with his graphics so you tell him his graphics sucks? Yeah, that not helpful at all.

Have you tried reinstalling Warcraft III? I can't see why something like this would happen, especially in the way you described =/ How funky.

Do you have any other games you could test it on? (ie starcraft, or another fullscreen game?)

Just...buy a new video card.
Im sure you can buy like a really shitty but working video card like a 5000 series for like 50$.

I had the same problem with WC3 several times. Simply restarting the computer seemed to fix it just fine.

Infact the black screen with only some of the images on it looked quite cool, so I made it my wallpaper for several days back when it happened.

[edit] Now that I think of it, it's probably anti-analising. I believe it can be turned off in Properties.

Graphics glitches are almost always because of faulty hardware or bad drivers. if it starts to happen without messing with drivers, prepare to buy new hardware.

mx440 is onboard isn't it?

Restart the computer, if that doesn't work, reinstall warcraft III, if that doesn't work, well I'm not sure. Its hard to suggest things, since you've said you already have the latest drivers and such.

Make sure you also have all windows updates from www.windowsupdate.com - you might try re-installing the video card drivers if you haven't done so already. Also, test older 2D games like Starcraft or Diablo 2 to see if they still work.

-Neoi still say that the hardware is broken. it has happened with me.
