Now, first off, let me explain my situation a little bit. We got a new person in IRC that Giggily apparently thought was annoying, so he told the new person to change his name to Q. Instead of the new person doing it, our very own hammocksleeper did it, much to my amusement. For no real reason other than to join on the bandwagon, I tried to follow hammock's example but it wouldn't let me because he was still connected to the server. I said ok, I'll live.

Fast forward a few minutes. I disconnect and reconnect to IRC... with the name Q for some odd reason. I blame Chatzilla. Anyway, I sign on, and it gives me the usual killed message. That was, like I said, about 22 hours ago. I checked the forum for a similar dilemma, which said the ban was 6 hours, not 3 times longer. And I'm sure hammock was unbanned.

So, anyone mind explaining exactly why I'm still banned?

because when you changed your nick to q, your default nick was changed to q also. so everytime you try to log back into the server, you are trying to log in as q, and you just keep getting rebanned. this, also, is amusing to me. :D you need to go in and change the nick you are logging on with.

I did change the name I was logging in with, either it disconnects me as soon as I join or it kills me.

Are you sure? Because I was able to successfully regain a sustainable connection to the server not more than three hours and forty minutes after being banned the first time.

I did, and after like... 30 hours of no IRC, they finally lifted the ban.

My god, why are you guys doing this again? I had to get something like 10 people unbanned from etg last time this happened. Really, stay off the one letter words.

Skip: You can either email etg, or you can have someone go into #etg and request you to be unbanned.

Mark: The reason that the letter "Q" and other single letter words are banned is because some servers use those letters and the nickserv or something of the like. As such, etg doesn't want an unscrupulous person to change their name to Q and have other people unknowingly (or accidentally) sending their password to them.
