View Full Version : You know what Grinds My Gears?

I thought, since becoming inebriated after work, that it might be a great idea to do a segment every week about War3 and it's many inconsistencies. Let's see, I'll start with my favorite...
I find it odd that Blizzard gives Human, one of the most abusive races for using invisibility, the only building upgrade in the entire GAME that actually detects invisible units. What's the point (other than detecting shades) of a Tier 2 detection upgrade? You're better off choosing Sorc Adept training OVER Magic Sentry for obvious reasons. Besides, Flying Machines are just as effective. Orc would be better off with Magic Sentry than Human, since Orc's best detection unit is their least used, least effective, and entirely counterable Troll Witch Doctor. Talk about a waste of a unit vs Human Breakers. Control Magic just makes the Docs laughable. Yeah, Magic Sentry was entirely misappropriated in the race-mix, IMO.
How about i talk about how the one race that actually has a hard counter for mass towers is the race thats known for massing towers. (Human...)
Night Elf has the worst towers, and the worst seige... Thats very annoying. Neither have a realistic counter to mass steam tanks, as well. Human and orc both have the best towers, and the best seige.
Orc are supposed to have the best melee, except they don't.
Edit: Changed post due to changed opinion.

UD's towers are arguably the best in the game.
Their range isn't amazing, but their DPS, armor, and armor rating are all excellent at all points of the game.
Orcs and HUs have pretty iffy towers until tier 3, and NE's towers, well, NE isn't much of a towering race, thank god. That'd be one more cheesy fucking thing to put up with.
And they tend to go with style in WC. HUs have had Invis since WCI, so it only makes sense that they're familar with all aspects of the spell. Why would Orcs need detect invis? They don't have exposed workers to protect.

Undead towers could be "arguably the best in the game" from that perspective, but you cannot offensively tower with them. Well you can, but it would be much harder than with orc or human.

Um no, it's pretty easy if you have half a brain.

One unit that isn't that good (mind you I'd take glaives over meat wagons anyday if it was for SIEGE standards) and their towers can't be good seeing how their whole base can walk up and beat the christ out of you.
In conclusion: Cry more Newb.

What? Are you stupid?
mmm should i join in on the flamefest or just watch?
How dare a race that has a t1 unit that can move as fast/faster than some heros, has high dps, low gold cost, easy to micro not have a godly t1 siege unit as well. Honestly, i think orc siege is overrated as it is. Burning oil is fairly good though.
Its true UD has the best towers, i dont see how you can argue that, but HU is better known for massing towers.

Then again, magic sentry also gives arcane towers the ability to reveal, and human already has flare on mortar teams o_o
And UD towers SUCK for expansions (wayy too expensive imho, except if you also have use for them for the food count +), but they're really good at your natural.
It's because blizzard thinks that everyone gets a blademaster vs human

You shouldn't have to build a freaking Blacksmith + Workshop in order to get some invis sight for HU, imo. The Workshop has very iffy applications.

I don't know how UD towers' effectiveness changes due to their location, but they're just as good in your base as they are in your expansion. UD expos suck in general, and I really don't think it has anything to do with the fact that 300G 100W for 10 food and a 25DPS tower is expensive. I think it has more to do with the fact that there is no "fast expo" as a UD at any point in the game and that you can't TP to expos to save them. The Haunted Mine is already ludicrous in expense, +Hall, +towers is when it really starts getting high.
