View Full Version : The Long Con...

So basically what we're looking to do is pull off a long con. I've never had any interest in gaming, but my boyfriend games all the time. He's leaving for a couple weeks, and a mutual friend suggested that it would be absolutely hilarious if I learned to play while he was gone...and learned to play "well". We've decided that for this to be truly impressive, I need to be a healer. Any tips for me? I'll have someone helping me identify what I need to do and when during the game, but I need to make sure I look like I've been at this for ages...nothing funnier than a newbie like myself kicking tail in a game...even if I'm being helped along the way. ;)

Hey, sorry, I cant help you there. I would, but I'm not much of a DOTA fan. I know there are a couple people here who are really into it, maybe they can help. The best thing for you to do while you wait, if you want to get better, is to play it alot and google for manuals online. Good luck, sounds like fun ^_^

I've got the manuals...the problem is, I dont have the game installed on my computer, so I have to wait for my guy to leave, so that I can learn on his copy w/o him being any the wiser. Believe me, if we can pull this off (he and 3 buddies play all the time, so I'd make the 5th player), I'll live in infamy. I'm thinking of letting one more of his buddies in on it (that would make 2 total) so that they could sort of shield me during the game and pave the way for me to succeed easier. This is what happens when we have too much time on our hands...we get diabolical. :P

Well, if you're playing DotA as a healer, you're best picking either Chen or Omniknight, and I'll give you a quick rundown of what to do with each.

With Chen, you invest as many skill points as possible in Persuasion (not Penitence, make sure to not mix the two up!) and then once you get to Level 7 head off around the map stealing creeps such as Centaur Khans and similar high level creeps from the creep camps dotted around the map. It also helps to say "type 'h' (or other letter of your choosing) for heal" so you can quickly react when someone needs assistance and use Hand of God. Penitence is your secondary skill, the slow is useful for when someone gets away.

With Omniknight, go Purification first and use it on your allies whenever they need a quick heal. Repel can also be used cheaply to shield allies from all sorts of magic, but bear in mind that it also protects them from friendly spells. Only use your Level 6/11/16 spell when really in trouble or when running past towers to try and kill someone. Degen Aura is your secondary skill, Repel third.

Check out www.dota-allstars.com (http://www.dota-allstars.com) forums for guides to both heroes, and AvengerXZ's article over at www.wcreplays.com (http://www.wcreplays.com) on "The Idiot's Guide to DotA". Meaty reading, but gives a lot of basic tips.

Hope this helps, and GL! (Good luck.)

Are you looking for the World of Warcraft discussion? Because what you're saying doesn't make much sense in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.

If you are, you stand little chance of learning to play this game like and expert with less than 6 mos. of experience. Sorry, but that's just the way it works. There are too many things to learn and understand.

If you're looking for WoW, I'm pretty sure that takes about 10 minutes to learn and another 10 hours to figure out. From there, I seriously doubt anyone would be able to differentiate experts from noobs.

Who wouldn't stand a chance of learning to play DOTA in a few weeks though.

I require a nice guide for Sithreen. Should I go for Buriza first or Desolator?

I'm not entirely sure why this is here, but Desolator isn't a first item. Without any high damage to amp it up, it's a fairly shitty item for its cost.

I found a guide on DotA Portal recommending this item... It's only there with Sithereen and unused with all other heroes.

Oh. sLithereen. For Amp Dmg abuse. Meh, I still like buriza. Anything that adds/reduces armor becomes less effective as you pour more of it on.

(Oh my mistake of spelling)

Oh, I get it. So, I get Buriza and what? Hyperstone? I guess Basher won't help that much for him... Should I go Skadi?

...well, what do you want to do with him, Sid? Perma-bash? Mass damage? Speed? You're going to have to be more specific and more focused, here. Asking "what do I get" is like asking someone "How do I win with Orc"?

I would get bfury with him since his base damage is quite high. Buriza is a good choice and maybe mkb.

I think Buriza and Hyper... Thanks, I got it!
BTW, I've switched my hero from Slithereen to Gargon.
(Still, Rhasta is my fav one!)

wow this sure went off topic. As far as items go in DotA, you'd be needing to get mekanism & guinsoos staff. Look at www.dota-allstars.com (http://www.dota-allstars.com) for seeing how these items are built. But ya, if this is about WoW, you're asking in the wrong place.
