View Full Version : Love the forums

You know, I've been thinking this lately, but you know, this is the truth:

I love the forums!

You may say 'This is a screwed up thread' and whatnot, but really, think about it. Where else do you have Mods/Admins/Super mods CONSTANTLY online, or if not, online within the next 30 minutes. Rarely do I ever see no mods on, but if I do, It's no trouble. The forums, although with few mods, are always patrolled on a regular basis. I find it amazing that so far, we've had minimal bannings, and good members. I mean, sure, we're new, and will see more, but really, this is good in my opinion. I think these forums are kicking into the right direction, and I thank god we have the mods and admins that we have. To tell the truth, I didn't like some (key word SOME) of the mods at the first forums (BF), and that was because they posted like they were on some stuff. A few times, I would go online, and find noone when I needed it. Maybe that's because there are a lot of spam attacks? Maybe... But really, sometimes I wouldn't see mods or admins on until either later day, or early night... It's weird... There were overflow periods where mods were on, but very rarely did I find a good number of them on. Sure, you don't see their numbers here, but the % of them that are on a lot of the time is a good number.

Basically, what I'm saying is: These mods and admins here do a lot of work compared to other forums, and some people take that for granted. Here's to our mods/adminds.

Oh, and you can say I'm a suckup, but I just wanted to say this here, rather than in multiple PM's. Cheers to the mods, as ZDS would have said... If he still used that phrase... o.O

Are you crazy? I've seen plenty of times when Mods arent on, and sometimes when they are they still arent fixing the problem. Creative Concepts is neglected much :(

Anyway, spam isnt that big of a deal here anyway. These forums are good.. and we all have heard of some 'big plans' coming so the goodness will become even better. w00t.

Patience, young Jedi.

"Groups" as in public usergroups? That will never happen. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Attachments will be up and running when Edge gets the go-ahead from whatever higher authority he has to be subservient to.

Anyways, yeah, if I'm the one you see on all the time, ignore it unless you see me posting. I just leave my computer on with Firefox running 24/7. :p
And PiXeLs, if you want something taken care of in CC, you could either PM a Mod/Admin or use the fancy "Report Post" thingy.

I like this site too. However, once you start getting as many members as BF you'd start thinking again about the work they do.

There are few users here compared to BF, and I guess that makes work easier.

But enough pessimism, spambot puts his butt up for spanking due to insulting someone.

She's a fun site, the WB that is. I used to be able to be 'around' at least 8 hours, with this site minimized at least, now it's turning into a bit of a hassle, company doesn't like to have folks log into sites for some odd reason *they think it opens a port for the Netsky virus..umm...*

Like any forum however, we do have things to work on. Constructive critism is allways a good thing, if it includes the constructive part of it :) As usual, if there's a problem, throw any of us a PM, and we shall try to take care of it.

Yeah it isn't going to happen. See this thread- http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=1565 for information on why.
Anyway yes, the mods and admins here are the best. But then again I never went to any other forums than these. This is my first. I like these forums but once I went to blizzforums and saw like 50 people logged in while there was like 8 over here. But we will get more members as time goes on.

How does someone go about becoming a mod? is there some sort of stest or something?

ZeroDarkStar

I don't think a standard qualification has been set in place yet, but if you feel you really are a moderator-type person, I'd think the best thing is to PM Edgewize.

The other question every asked every other day. :p

Just hang out in the forum you want to mod, become involved, prove to be helpful, etc. And after you've been there a while, dropping a PM to an admin that if there is an opening in such and such forum that you'd like to be considered...

That doesn't mean you will become a mod. Its just a good idea. Don't show up out of the blue and say, "I want to be a mod." We will just laugh at you.

To be back on topic, I too love these forums. I'm not on as often as I want to be (the downside of using the main phone line...must...get...high speed...).

As for the mods and admins, we have a good group. I never had much dealing with the legacy mods and admins at BF, except limited time with Redcloak. Usually whenever I needed something, I went to AJ or Myst, since I knew them (or at least knew Myst) from the old .ORG boards at SC.org.

Heh...favorite admin moment:
The time Myst posted while drunk ("Hey everybody, I'm drunk. I'm goin to bed" or something like that was the whole post). Nobody but Myst could post something like that and everyone admire him for it...

What happend to your sign quality you can taste sig?

You don't really need so many PMs. Unless you get a lot of fan mail, then I understand. :P

As for that phone line thing, this site loads faster than BlizzForums Default, MUCH faster. I used to wait 3 minutes for a single thread to open there.

A good trade-off here. Pretty site with low lag times. I have a feeling someone recoded the whole PHP thing, because it is THAT fast for a forum with a detailed postbit.

(... I clicked quote for one thing and my big, time consuming post got deleted when I pressed back. >.<;; Urg... time to write it up again, I'm not writing it all, though.)

'Tis a good forum, she is. Better than BF. In BF, you had to deal with admins/mods who abused their powers, plus it was a lot more strict. Luckily I used to go mostly in the SC2 and RP forums. I didn't have to deal with much there.

WBs is a great forum compared to many others. I remember GWs... *shudders*. Wow, bad thoughts, lets not go there. BF was very strict and abusive, with a lot of people. I remember when there were at least 8 active Rps going on... and I was in each one. BF had a lot of people, and while that is sometimes a plus, it is also a minus. In WB, you get to sort of know the person. Not in the sense like 'location, who are you, etc.', but in the sense of, 'their personality, what they are like, etc'. All people were just... posters, replying to someones post. The only person I sort of got to know/friendship type thing there was BH, and I forget how that even started. In WB, you get to know a lot of people, and it is a lot tighter knit community. Although we have a lot of members, we don't have too many active members, and this lets us get to know eachother somewhat better. I'm pretty sure we could do with 25 more active members, though, especially in the RP area and Diplo. I mean, come on people, it's DIPLO! FUN! Follow the candy trail :).

Oh yeah, some of the best people from BF came here, that's also what helps make this a good forum.

When playing Diplomacy, if you are in more than one game, your inbox quickly fills up. I've resorted to saving important correspondence to my computer.I should start doing that. I'm up to 45 now, I don't want to delete any...

A person whos name is in bold green is a mod. i dont know about admins. You know, I never even knew it was green until you pointed it out. I just thought it was bold grey... *gasp* I might be colourblind!

...well, actually, I have some trouble distinguishing very greyish green from green, I think it is grey. Unless it is held up to something green, then I can see it. It's just for a few particular very grey greens...

Anyways, yeah, if I'm the one you see on all the time, ignore it unless you see me posting. I just leave my computer on with Firefox running 24/7. Yep, I do that a lot too, I'm too lazy to press the 'X' at the top right or shut down the comp.

Just hang out in the forum you want to mod, become involved, prove to be helpful, etc. And after you've been there a while, dropping a PM to an admin that if there is an opening in such and such forum that you'd like to be considered...

footnote: choice in moderator is decided by our noticing and appreciating your past behavior, recognizing your activity in a particular forum as well as all of WB, and by recommendations provided by members of the current staff.

PM'ing me and asking to be put on a moderator list will only make me initially think slightly less, perhaps. That's not what I go to when I need a new moderator.

Yeah it does. I could probably name around 60 people of the top of my head and tell what type of personality they have.

Okay, that may be true for some people, but think in terms of percentage, not quantity.

1750/8826 = 19.8%
0.198 * 60 = 11.88 = 12
For the amount of people on this forum, I'm sure you can name a lot more than 12 people here that you know things about. And I'm pretty sure you would know more about people here than at BF, unless the people you know at BF are from WB, or came to WB.

I'm glad I'm here :)

Ai! Cheers mate! ^^ Now at this moment I would normally take out a beer and down it in one shot, but unfortunatly, -with the exeption of prom-, I haven't had anything for over a month. Oh man... I've been wanting one so bad these last couple days. The teachers have been driving me insane and my family is on the verge of a nuclear meltdown. This grounding thing has made me miss you guys soo much too. I mean, I have beat Zelda twice since then! I started playing Final Fantasy 7, again. I am going nuts, insane, spyco, looney. God, I can't wait to get out on my own....

BTW, I got a sun burn! Yea! Now I can almost have the hangover feeling without the fore effects of the beer! T.T

But-- Shit... I fixed a typo in my above post and forgot what I was gonna say. I'll settle for-- I love you Geno!! Non-homosexualy of course!

Duddits, you really have got to lay off the beer if you actually feel the need to have one, especially every day. At parties it is okay, but if you go to parties every night, you might want to cut back. It seems to be turning into an addiction for you, it isn't a good idea to be a problematic drunk later in life. It can ruin lives...

Trust me, try to cut back, just some friendly advice from ...a fellow forumer. ;)

I'm being forced to lay off it, so, though not willingly, I'll be following your advise.
