Whenever I try to uninstall The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, I get two error messages apparently meaning I cannot. I have taken screenshots of these error messages. Any recommendations as to what I should do? Btw, I'm also posting this at the TES forums.

1) Do what the message says (since it appears to be threatening you and you never know what long lost cousins it might be holding hostage).

2) Perform general maintenance such as virus scans, cleaning out temporary files with a program like Easy Cleaner, and installing all windows updates from windowsupdate.com

3) Make sure to completely un-install any part of Oblivion that may have been partially installed - files, registry keys, etc.

4) Check Oblivions website and look for the useless FAQ that every game has but never manages to cover the particular problem you have - or if it has the problem, it provies a basic, inadequate solution that doesn't really even do anything it all.

5) Email their tech support with those screenshots. If they have good tech support, you might spend 4 emails or so with them giving you seemingly helpful instructions that end up accomplishing nothing - possibly resolving the issue by email 6 or 7. If their tech support is bad, like Blizzards, then you'll get a nice automated reply stating something completely irrelevant to your problem. If you try to reply to that, you'll get a human-sounding reply stating that the department doesn't handle your problem. If you reply to THAT email, you'll get a message containing instructions to resolve your original problem. When those don't work and you reply AGAIN, they'll threaten you in some manner if you persue the matter any further.

6) Post the problem on Warboards and hope someone can help, but then magically figure out the solution on your own and post a "lock this thread" reply three days later after everyone has had a chance to suggest typical workarounds that really don't do anything.

So, he decided to cut 'some' corners. What's the big deal on that, anyway? :P *Wink, wink*

7) Give up without trying and start planning reinstalling Windows or better yet *nix later on. No need to uninstall that sucker then!

That's basically the holy grail of suggestions, and try everything that was stated previously. It looks as if Oblivion is not the problem, but InstallSheild Wizard. See if you can re-install/repair that, and then attempt to uninstall again.

If not,
Check to see if another program is using an Oblivion file (I've had a few programs interfere with uninstalls before) or if a file or the uninstall .exe has been damaged.

If all else fails, there may be a guide you can find to manually uninstall Oblivion. If not, remove Oblivion from Program Files and search the registry for anything Oblivion related and (though be careful) delete them.

My vote is that his temp folder is messed up, or installshield is suffering damage.

at least from other googled pages on this problem.

Cleared my temp folder, didn't help. Probably my installshield... I completely deleted the file <_<

you.. you deleted your installshield? thats somewhat.. not so wise.
stroll through the microsoft kb articles if you could find a repair utility for that.

And you're wondering why you're having problems?
I did a quick search... The creator's site allows you to download it, but I think that you only get a registered version bundled with windows and that's it. If you completely deleted it, you might only be able to replace it with the evaluation version (http://www.macrovision.com/downloads/evaluations/installshield/index.shtml). Then again, I have no idea, I've never done this before. If you only deleted the .exe or damaged it, you may be able to repair it.

Just run windows update. Hopefully it should catch it and update it.

There are times where installshield updates itslef as well... while installing some new program, its very strange O_o
