View Full Version : SC Install Problems
I got my shiny new computer home yesterday!:D So what's the first thing I do? I go install SC of course! So I put the CD in the CD drive but no splash screen appears... I didn't think much of it so I went and tried to install through the CD (went to E:\Starcraft\Install.exe) and double clicked on the install.exe. But still nothing happens. Long story short I cannot seem to install starcraft onto my machine as all it does is freeze up. I looked in the task manager and under "processes" SETUP.EXE is running but it's like it's running in the backround because I can't get to it. So, any help? This IS Windows XP Pro so I don't want to hear no linux jibberish. I can install other things and games just fine and allthough my CDs are scratched a little they work perfectly on my laptop. Any help?
My guess is that your cd is scratched up and the computer is unable to read it properly, I have the same problem :/

It's not scratched up that bad. My laptop can read it easy as pie. It happens with both CDs too. And the BW ones not as scratched as the origanal. (in fact the BW one has just got dust scratches.)
Have you checked the Blizzard Support site?
I've had this happen on different computers with Starcraft. You might try making an ISO of the cd or something and then trying ot install it that way... I dunno.

As a last resort, install SC (and the expansion) on another computer, then copy the Starcraft program folder to the computer with the problems. You should be able to run it after copying over the installed files as if the game were actually installed on that computer (I had to do this for an old Windows 98 SE computer that refused to let me install Starcraft).

Aha! Fixed it! Apparently i had to update windows because after I ran the updates it installed fine. Thanks for the ideas though.

Drats! Foiled again... my idea shined through even before spoken.
Btw, I trust that even having a new PC you'll show up in the game nights (more than I'm currently going to at least). ;)
Basan that wouldn't have worked anyways, Starcraft utilizes the registry for a few things.

Perhaps you're right. But my SC-BW started working better after I had updated my OS.
