Alot of my friends smoke cigars on poker nights.
I've personaly never smoked tobacco, and I feel left out sometimes.
And cigar smoke smells pretty nice.
I don't smoke tobacco becuase I'm afraid I'll get hooked - mainly because my grand father had an extreamly hard time quitting after smoking for 20 years.
I heard some where that cigars can be less addictive than cigarettes, because you only taste the smoke in your mouth, and spit it out.
Is this true?
Should I never even touch tobacco at all?
How many cigars per week will get me hooked?
I may sound paranoid, but I want to make sure its safe.
Any Cigar / cigarette smokers want to help me out?
you get hooked on your first cigarette, not sure about cigars but those cant be much less worse.

You smoke pot and act like it's fine and dandy, and you're worried about getting addicted to tobacco? I think your priorities need sorting.
Anyway... I've smoked cigars before. Not my favorite taste but on occasions, they're good enough. As far as addiction goes, they put the same tobacco in cigars that they do in cigarettes, and all tobacco products have roughly the same addictive potential. Only difference is the finished product; cigarettes get filters and usually aren't flavored. Some cigars are flavored, and aren't filtered.
And remember, no cigar or cigarette is safe. Both carry the same health risks.

You should definately be proud that you don't smoke cigars or cigarettes. Even if all your friends are doing it, you can still have tons of fun playing poker without a cigar. Your health is most important.

you get hooked on your first cigarette
this is far from the truth. cigarettes aren't crack, my friend.
anyway, the way i look at it, if you are playing poker with a roomful of cigar smokers you are getting all the secondhand smoke anyway. so smoking a cigar would not increase your health risks in the slightest. i say go for it.
as far as the addictive qualities goes, cigars are no less addictive than cigarettes. but if you only smoke one cigar one or two nights a week, chances are you will not get addicted. just make sure you don't smoke at other times during the week. if you find yourself doing that, then you need to stop.
cigars are great, i find them very enjoyable.

you get hooked on your first cigarette.Bullshit. I've smoked almost a pack or two of cigs in the last year, and each time I had one I've never wanted another afterwards. Moreover, I've also become conditioned to the point now where one puff makes me vomit (bad experience after lots of drinking.)
Anyway, there are a few differences between cigars and cigarettes that make a difference. Kong's post was good, however cigars actually hold far more addictive potential than cigarettes. The reason is that Cigars are unfiltered and are packed with a shitload more tobacco than a cigarette and are meant to be smoked on one occasion.
The reason I point out potential addiction is that cigars aren't inhaled (which doesn't make them any safer) resulting in less nicotine absorbtion. If you inhale a cigar, not only will you probably cough (maybe throw up) and probably not enjoy it, but you'll also run a much higher risk of getting addicted than if you just puff the cigar.
That said, it depends on personality. I've sat down to poker games and smoked two giant churchills in about three hours and then didn't touch tobacco for another month and a half before having a few puffs of another cigar. However, some people obviously have higher chances of addiction.
I do, though, enjoy my cigars. You can usually find nice, flavorful cigars at around $3-$7 a piece that will last you a while and taste great. I enjoy them as a social event, but don't usually find myself hankering for one alone.
Edit: A minor point. If you're going to smoke shitty cigars like Philly Blunts, White Owls, or Black and Milds, do those first and then smoke a nice, good cigar later. You'll have a hard time returning to a Philly after you've enjoyed a real cigar.

Well I only smoke cigars every so often. Not like every night. Hell, the last cigar I smoked was like 3 months ago.
Aren't cigars much worse then cigarettes? Like, quite a few factors worse then one?
I don't know. If your not smoking now, then why bother smoking Cigars? Are you really missing out on something if you don't? :p

Cigars have increased potential of cancer in the mouth, since you puff them rather than inhale, but less potential for lung cancer. Cigarettes are reversed.

A cigar was my first tobacco product (tradition on the night before Thanksgiving Furlough at the Citadel: big Thanksgiving feast dinner where the Knobs are allowed to relax and eat whatever they like, then the entire battalion spends the evening out on each of their respective quads smoking cigars: if you don't bring one, someone will give you one). I don't believe cigar smoke is as addictive as cigarrettes (it is addictive, but not to the point that you get the cravings you do with cigs), and I personally enjoy a good cigar every now and again.
Good cigar, mind. If it costs less than $16.00, you can keep it.
Yeah, and definitely don't walk outside, you might get hit by a car!
I'm sorry whats this supposed to mean?
I mean, hes not smoking now, giving a reason why he wouldn't like to start, and then asking what we think. I said if hes not smoking the small things then why start on the bigger things?
Besides, it seemed like no one else was saying "its not worth it, don't do it, etc..." Barring that, he already does pot, why give him something else to smoke?

I have only smoked the cheap cigars like Black & Milds and Philly Blunts. I enjoyed the Black & Milds, and two of my friends and myself smoked our packs in about 30 minutes. Philly Blunts are just not good at all, don't ever get them. I want to try better quality cigars, but I'm too lazy to get them. I also only smoke when I'm drunk.

I personally will never touch any form of tobacco. And I'm not one of those goody-two-shoe idiots that won't do it because their mommy and daddy told them to. I've seen first hand how bad tobacco, nicotine and other disgusting ingredients in tobacco can be. I've lost many relatives to lung and throat cancer...
I've had a cigar. Hated it, it was terrible. I will never have one ever again.

Winner. Gee, I hope you don't get "sick" from cigar smoke, junior! Oh wait, that's if you don't get "sick" from pot smoke and don't get arrested and then fucked in the ass after you get a mandatory prison sentence.
Both carry the same health risks.
Loser. They have different health risks, but it all boils down to cancer. Cigars aren't as addictive but they're also used in a different manner and have a different culture. For instance, if you sit down and finish a cigar in 3 minutes or less, you're going to get fucking ill. Otherwise, good luck finding a new drug.

Either thats a weird way of agreeing, or I lack the brain function to comprehend that. Either way, funny.

Surgeon General says otherwise.
1 Cigar = 5 to 10 cigarette, it simply kill you faster.

Cigars will kill you faster if you smoke them as often as cigarrettes. How many people do you know who smoke 20 cigars each day, every day?
No one I know of.

Cigars use the whole tobacco leaf, as opposed to processed bits and pieces in cigarettes. Don't know if this kills you, but it leaves for a better taste.
