I was thinking of waiting until the Dx10 gfx cards and Vista come out to buy a new computer, but then realised that I could always get the computer earlier and the card later.

Unfortunately, my computer guy has failed me too many times in the past for me to trust him now. So I'm on my own.

First off, if anyone is aware of the rough price that the new cards will go for after release, please speak forth and enlighten me on this subject, for itt will be greatly appreciated.

Secondly, since the computer will be an assembled one, and since my knowledge of hardware is rather...outdated, I would welcome suggestions for Processors, motherboards, basically names/details/prices of good products in various fields. My budget is unknown at this time, but I think I can manage 35,000 rupees. (a figure which makes little sense even after currency conversion since electronics are generally cheaper in India.)

Or a link to a good, reliable site which discusses medium to high ends products would help too.

Thanks in advance.

I myself cant read most of the stuff below but heres a pretty up-to-date piece o' PC:
Processor: P 940 DUAL CORE, 3.2Ghz, LGA775, BOX
HDD: 250, Seagate, SerialATA2, 7200, 16MB
Memory: 2х1GB DDR-2 667MHZ, Kingmax/TwinMos, 5Year Warranty
Motherboard: Asus P5WD2-E Premium, i975X, LGA775, DDR2, PCI Express, SB7.1, 2xLan1000, SerialATA, Raid 0,1,5,10, 1394
VideoCard: ASUS EN7900GTX/2DHTV/512M PCI-E
Of course this will require a 500Watt case and a reasonable DVD RW.
And you can replace the video card with one of those GPU things that are quite new on the market as long as it maches the motherboard.
Or you can allways pick one HERE (http://www.littletechshoppe.com/ns1625/winche02.html) :D

are you sure you absolutely need that new computer?
i wouldnt aim for the newest stuff, since thats always more expensive. cheaper things can do the same at worst half a year later.
one thing is for sure -- be generous about memory.

The intel Conroe sounds promising, and it's being released in a coupla weeks. What's the word on the street for that?

plz ftw intel.

Do you really need DX10 comapatibility? Do you really think other game developers are going to alienate those people who don't have vista and a brand new kick ass computer?

as i said, dont buy anything right away. make sure you check the reviews from several sources first. that way you get less disappointments.

but i'd rather buy recent but not bleeding-edge hardware; you seriously dont need all that power the bleeding edge provides. unless, of course, you have the monies to spend on that.

If you're not in a big hurry I'd wait for the Intel Conroe processors.
