Why drink?

Everyone who drinks for some reason or another (and no I don't mean drinking to avoid dying of dehydration) so what's yours? Some reasons seem more tolerable than others, but the action is still the same. What do you drink for? Easy Question...

I used to drink for the hell of it, but now I'm more of a social drinker.

Well, I'm sort of multifaceted:
1. Don't drink alone.
2. Drink for taste.
3. Drink for buzz (not drunk).

It's rare that these 3 factors come together, so I simply say that I don't drink.

I'll admit it's fairly new to me. When I was younger it seemed pretty pointless to me because all that drinking appeared to do was make you drunk and hungover with some nice longterm liver problems to nurse over (latter only applies in extreme cases, obviously.) Now though it doesn't seem as bad. In fact some drinks are actually better at getting rid of thirst than the non alcohol types, and there's some tastes that I'm really starting to enjoy (Cider is amazing, Vodka hits you in the right spot, wine is nice, lager is good.) I just detest Whisky though. It's like poison. Ugh...

On a side note, I don't dilute my drinks. I prefer to taste them as they are as opposed to being masked under a veil ok coke or something. I'm about 1 year underage for it, but my dad keeps saying that I'm getting too fond of a taste for it. I mean, it's not like I'm going out, spending all of my money on alcohol and coming back half dead the next morning (never get drunk,) all I do is raid it everytime it's in the house. Such BS he comes out with...

I have a feeling for a lot of people it's "Because your underage and it makes you feel like a rebel..." and "Don't actually drink but fake it to look cool..." but they won't actually answer truthfully.

I only drink alcoholic beverages that I find appealing. For example, I don't like Jack Daniels, so I don't drink it. I like Vodka, so I will have it occasionally.

I like beer, so that is what I generally drink. Ice House is my favorite, but I am also partial to Miller Lite, and Coors.

I don't really care for Bud Diesel (regular Budweiser), but will drink it if necessary. I don't know why it would be necessary to drink beer, but it could be.

I'm the opposite... though I drink only for taste, and that rarely, I love how JD and coke tastes, Baileys and Sherry also. But I very rarely drink in public, because I'm under age and I don't think it's right to - but in your own home, fair game. My folks even brought me a two-serving bottle of JD and coke to mix it with, for Christmas last year.

Drinking is fun, and it's use as a social lubricant is indispensable. For people younger than me though its use is quite different.

I don't drink for taste, and neither do any of you. Every liquor I have ever tasted was nasty, and tasted like gasoline, beer however does have a pleasing taste. But thats besides the point, me, and every one of you drinks to get fucked up, how fucked up is a matter of personal preference. I myself like to get as bombed out as possible, but thats not for everyone.
But don't delude your self by saying "I only drink for taste", if that was true you would only be drinking lite wines and such.

I am not sure why some people get drunk - maybe they wish to go on fun ride or something? The ones I know in the Real World do not have a bad reality to escape from, although that could be true in some cases. I have never got drunk before, and don't intend to. :)

And is only your "lite wines" that have taste to then? Utter Bullshit. Vodka has a taste (and a warm fuzzy feeling) as does every other drink. YOU might not like it, but that doesn't mean that everyone else will not like it. It probably only tastes like Gasoline to you because your car runs on Ethanol or something and your idea of getting "bombed out" includes drinking it. Such Bullshittery.

I dont drink regularly, but I have tried a few sweet white wines that I've liked. So, in the future, it'll most likely just be for taste.

for me it's a taste thing; i absolutely love the taste of alcohol, whether in shots, mixed drinks or beer. i can't stand wines, however - especially the cheap ones; they have such a horrible aftertaste.

plus, drinking with your friends is fun as hell.
