has anyone heard of this OS
http://honeybrown.ca/Pubs/BumpTop.html
it looks confusing
I checked out the website briefly and this appears to just be a window manager of sorts for Windows XP, not a whole OS.

Very interesting idea. It might be fun to mess around with, but I think it would prove to be more confusing than current desktop organization. It would be easy to lose files and hard to keep track of them if they move around the "desk" so much.

You let me down, big time. When I saw that your link said "honey brown" I was expecting something a bit different then computer stuff.

Yes, you've found our stash of porn threads. In the tech annex, where you'd never expect to find a computer link. -_-

I just watched the demo, and I have to say it's an interesting idea. However, I can see how some parts of this would be confusing.
For example, this is designed to replace the current desktop view, however, I don't use my desktop to store a massive amount of information. I use it as a place to open more infrequently used programs and to store temporary items that I'm working on.
The pile technique would seem kind of a hassle when working with computer files. It seemed like it would be kinda of a pain to open a file (sort through a pile), rather than just pointing and clicking. I guess it would be useful for people who keep a lot of files on their desktop.

I can see how you'd say that, but it seems that you could store things both ways (Grid outline, and piles).
I'm a generally messy (read:disorganized) person, and it would be nice to be able to sort things into piles and have the desktop look fairly clean for a change. I start working on things and save them onto the desktop, but I work on multiple things at once, and it'd be nice to have one spot for all of them that wouldn't clutter the desktop.
To me, this sounds more like something that Apple would implement into their OS.
computers are good for automagically sorting and organising things, and i like it that way.
