View Full Version : How many times have you done it?
Hey, get your mind out of the gutter.
My question: Do you find yourself replying to and creating new posts, having the entire thing written only to walk away without posting it? I find myself more and more often navigating away from a 2-3 paragraph post simply because I don't feel like arguing or perhaps I simply feel that my idea was ill conceived once I typed it out and read it.
Does anyone else do this or am I alone in this?

Eh. I write more then 500 words that don't get posted on WB.

More than once, yes. Especially in the IR -- and especially against Chaos (lol).

I do it all the time. I do it when I see that the conversation in a thread isn't worth carrying out, and that's been happening a lot recently.

Yes, that often happens to me. And sometimes I write out a whole post and then forget to post it.

I regularly use it as an alternative to spamming. If I see a post I disagree with, reply to it... but don't post the reply, either cus I deem it not worthy of comment or it seems a bad idea.

I do the same thing.
I'll have a nice post written out and realize that it either isn't good enough, I don't feel like posting it, or I simply lose interest.

More than enough times... Some times my posts are worse after I come back and remeber that I didnt in fact post what I had written out so I have to rewrite it from memory

That happens to me on a regular basis. It happened to me as of a couple minutes ago. Seriously...
Wow, so I'm not weird? Either that, or we're all weird together. ;)

I think we're all weird together..
If we're weird together, does that make us normal?

Yup.
Per see, the definition of weird is based on the basis of the amount of people there. You are all weird, so there is nobody who is not the same as the other person. Therefore you have to be even more weird to be wierd.

Sometimes I open the reply box and then abandon it without typing anything, but normally I just post when I feel like it, and when I think it would be stupid, I don't post. I guess I'm the weird one here...

I usually just abandon things in certain posts when I realize it will be unappreciated by the audience.

Oh man, I pretty much do it every wednesday, friday and saturday at least. Plus on wednesdays it's a buck-a-beer night. God damn man, last wednesday I bought 2 girls who were tourists drinks and man we were listening to oh damn...
Well serves you right for starting a thread like this :) Shit. I just wanted to carry on to this story because it's so damn hot. Well, the answer to your question would be...no? :)

All the time. I type something out only to find a solution, or to not like my post, and I cancel it. Sometimes I dont think the discussion is worth following through, or I'm just to tired to finish. It's usually the reason I dont post in many threads.

I don't really do this intentionaly. My biggest problem is writing up a huge post and then when I hit the "Submit" button it comes to my horrified attention that it took so long to post the reply that WBs automaticly signed out my account and I then lose the entire post. Damn that sucks >.< (Thus why I keep two browsers open and navigate one while writing the reply in the other. The reason I'm in more than one place at once lol.)

I do that so many times it's not even funny. Just that half the stuff I say after I read it again sounds... quite rude or idiotic or even jerk-iotic. My post count would be alot higher probroably, but I proporably would have at least 1 deleted post, and or ban threat.

I do it sometimes. I type up half a post and go over it and it might not be going in the right direction or not very informative/helpful so I just bail and move on.

Nope, I follow through with whatever I am intending to post (like that was a big surprise to everyone). Normally when I go over a post I usually find some more things to add into my discussion. Especially when I am arguing with someone.

It happens to me more times than I normally post. If I decided to hit "Post quick reply" everytime I just gave up on it I'd have about 2x my current post count. I think I've put it down to laziness because sometimes I can't even be bothered to argue in my own threads.

Nah, what the real issue with me is how many times have I edited a post, meer minutes after I post it. Seriously, go over the majority of my posts and you'll see that they have been edited in some trivial way, mainly over spelling or context or to expand. I'm some sorta grammar nazi. :concern:
Yeah, I do this often as well to. Not as often as i used to, but it still happens.
Usually it happens in regards to a serious topic/thread/issue where I either don't reply to, or actually work out like 3 different replies first...
Plus, I figure that cursing members out via my first draft isn't such a nice thing to do :P
I kid!

I could probably double my post count if I posted all of the replies that I've written up and scrapped :P. I do this in IRC a lot too - I'll write 3-4 sentences and hit the down key realizing I'd probably offend someone // start an argument.

I've found myself doing this more recently, in a large number of threads both in ML, CC (does that make anyone else think ChitChat and not Creative Concepts? o_O) and IR. Usually the logic goes something like this:
Especially in ML and IR, I keep finding myself no longer interested in the discussion by the time I finish my post.
Oddly enough, this doesn't happen to me in other forums, like Tech, Programming, Roleplaying, Diplomacy and pretty much any of the game forums I hit up every once in a while. Maybe I just feel more at home in those niche forums.

I had written out a nice, 3 paragraph response to this thread. But I decided to press the back button.... except this time I posted this sentance since this thread is about how people always write out 3+ paragraph responses then walk away without posting.

I do it all the time in RP'ing. It's kinda funny, because I whip out a 500 word response in about 10 minutes, and then realize it's not worth it.

If I had posted everything I've thought about posting, I'd have a MUCH higher post count.

definitely happens to me.
in fact it just happened in this post. there was more to what i was going to say, but i decided not to say it. it's always wise to be careful with your words, and i'm not just talking about avoiding offending someone.
