After watching this movie last week, I must say I'm disappointed. I haven't seen the first two movies of the series, but my cousins told me that they're all right, and that this might be a good movie.
Well, the story got old. Fast. and furiously.
The casting was kinda funny. At first, when the main actor walked into a highschool, I actually chuckled to myself. I thought he was going to be a teacher or something like that, but they did a terrible job of a 23 year old actor looking like a high school student.
The race scenes, well, they were long and drawn out and shown from odd angles. Because of that, they actually got boring. At some points, it felt like I was waiting for the racing to end so the story could continue. And don't get me wrong, I'm not one to get bored in racing / action scenes.
Anyways, I thought the movie was just average... nothing spectacular. I keep hearing about the first two movies, and I hear that they're much better. My question for you guys : Are they worth renting? Are they better than this movie, or pretty much the same?

Wait, I've only seen the previews, but he's supposed to be in high school? What kind of crap is that? I was seriously interested in seeing this movie, I guess I'll just wait until it comes out to decide if I want to rent it.

They should have let it die after the first movie.
They're milking the name for all it's worth, it's getting to the point where ANY movie that does well gets atleast two sequels that suck nuts. (The body part, not the member.)

I saw bits and pieces of the first one, and it was just poorly acted wiggerness. So why would the second sequel to a shitty wigger movie be any better? Ill pass on this one.

It appears I'm the only one with a dissenting opinion in the bunch here, but I've gotta say that if you've got any idea how nice it was to see a Dodge Viper take on a Ford Mustang in a construction site or any of the other "spoilers" I could mention, then you'll appreciate this movie because that's just a starter for the match-ups you'll see in this movie. This also includes an incredible chase scene with a storyline to substantiate it. I don't care how our country hick ended up in Tokyo, I allow every movie at least one leap of faith to establish a plot. Besides that, there's a line to be drawn between criticism and cynicism, which I believe is being crossed in some of your reasons for not liking this movie. That, or you're just not watching this movie with the right state of mind. Either way, you're not getting out of it what many others are, so give it a chance. It's by far my favorite of all three movies for the creativity and the approach this storyline took. Afterall, considering the majority of this movie doesn't actually center around winning a race, it builds up the ending so much better than the first, and I don't even need to comment on the second. I enjoyed all of about 3 minutes of the second movie during the scavenger race when the mustang went underneath a tractor trailer. If you enjoy street racing, or exciting match-ups with underdogs, you'll enjoy this movie. Otherwise, you're really not commenting on anything you shouldn't expect anyway from this movie. Lots of cars. Lots of stunts. Lots of action.

I also thought it was alright. The characters were predictable and some of the racing sequences were too long and drawn out, but the storyline was maintained at a realm of believable implausibilty (if that makes any sense) and the movie was paced pretty well. I didn't find any major flaws with the casting, either (besides the main character who looked way too old to be playing a high school character), nor with their acting. I say it's a good film to just lay back and have some fun with, but it could've been much better if they went with another direction with the racing scenes, those were the only parts that actually let me down.

The idea of a movie centered around ricers just scares me. That's why the whole franchise makes me cry: ricers.
I mean, at least Gone in 60 Seconds had a car chase in a Shelby, that was hot.
Bad Boys II is a Lamborghini (or Porsche, I forgot).
Then you have F&F in civics with spoilers and lights.
Waste-of-time. If I want that I can go to the local mall.

I just watched this movie, and I think it kiks some serious ass.
I mean, just look at all those god dam asian hotties.
If I could have a slice of that.
The drifting was cool too.
And I got to sit down in a place with air conditioning.
Man, this movie changed the way I feel about Japan.
Cars and hotties.
I know its just a movie, but still.

Haha :)
By the way, a little easter egg for you people who've seen the movie. The fisherman who comments when he's learning how to drift is the original DK from what I hear. He's a famous Japanese racer who invented drifting. I'm not sure how true this is though.
I like street racing movies / and the concept of street racing, but I just thought the directing / racing scenes could have been better.
@ScottieIWU - Yeah, ricers are kinda funny. I have buddy who has the opposite, a semi-sleeper. It's kinda funny, because he makes the exterior of his car look like shit, but damn, that thing can go fast.

I haven't seen the movie yet... and by your answers, it doesn't convince me to watch it. :p
Basically, I see it as a Need For Speed movie. That basically translates as utter-shite.
Now, a Burnout movie would be fun, fast and funny, add a made up 'cool' character. It'd be the best camp racing film ever. Just a shame that the Burnout 3 DJ is such a tit...
Ohh, we could put PC's pimpmobile in it!
Jesus-wagon ftw!

thank you Ktan for volunteering yourself director for our new WB movie. :)
just kidding.
although that is something i would want to see. :D
Hey, I'm sure I can do better than Uwe Boll. But we have a thread for that, I believe. then again, it may be dead.
Yes, on topic err...
I also find it ridiculous that they have to put in 'guns' and 'gangsters.' It'll be a film with Micheal Schumacher as the fricking Godfather next at this rate...guns and car chases are only cool in action flims, ie James Bond (the older ones, preferably) not 'urban' films. When will people realise making a film 'urban' does not instantly make it cool, that it infact does the opposite.
I'm sure it's not bad to waste an hour or two, for a laugh. That still doesn't stop it being souless kack.
This rant was brought to you by K'tan, disgruntled youth.

I hate all 3 moveis as it empowers every kid in a honda to think that its "possible" to have everyday driving 10 second FWD cars on street tires  . And that it's cool to either street race on crowded roads and that drifting a FWD around a corner is cool as well:mad:
Other than that aspect I didn't hate the movies as I liked all the muscle cars (well the few) and the real Import runners like RX-7's, Supras, and Skylines. To me the comedic value of 2 was better than 1. I'll eventually see part 3 but it's not high on the watch list as every car I liked in part one or 2 ended up destroyed:mad: .
It was a Ferrari in Bad boys II and a bunch of older muscle cars (Nova, and an earlier Firebird that the bangers drove) Bad Boys I had the Porche and the Shelby Cobra in the end.
Oh well it leads to plenty of "ricers" to laugh at.

It was better than the first 2, IMO.

I liked the story, but I can understand if there are some people who don't like cars and asian hotties! (ok I can't but...)
Anyway alot better then the 1 and 2.

The first one was so retarded that I can't believed they bothered making two sequels, neither of which I have seen.

It's a cash cow for the deluded Chavs, I'm afraid, which is why it suceeds. Sex sells, as does Fast and the Furious, I'm afraid.
Naturally, the former is apreciated much more than the latter :P
