For some reason, the icons on my desktop has this gray backrground under the text. I could change the colors, but I can't figure out how to make them transparent again. :<

Google is your friend. :)

Open System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.

*Laymen's terms explanation* :P
After having your OS on it's desktop, head your self to the PC icon. Right-click on the thing and pick the "properties" option and then on the "advanced" tab. If you don't know what to do from there, you're beyond our power in the force.

Did you install anything that effects it recently? WindowsBlinds or some other kind of skinning program? That or delete a system file...

I had a problem with a skin recently and I followed all the directions to fix it, only realizing much later that it was not the skin but a completely different property had been altered somewhere else.

Basan, are you trieng to give me step by step instructions to instructions thats been already been posted? O.o? I meant there might be something wrong that I don't know...

Um, yes Markpyro I have 27 diffreant kind of skins to choose from. yah... but I always had the icons have a black background in a black wallpaper. I havn't really noticed it until now.

I'll uninstall them all if I have to.

Just kidding with ya... sorry, if not well understood. Anyway, have you tried to uncheck the "Use visual styles..." option at that same advanced tab (under the "performance" item, in the "definitions" button)? I suspected that it would solve your issue, but if not... then I don't know.

Add: Oh, wait... Just reminded that in my desktop properties I can control the the text colour under the "definition" tab, at the "advanced" button. Then head yourself onto the "colour management" tab and set the colour to white or none while in there. Try it, but that could be solely the settings under my graphic card soft'.
And if that last one works I want a WC3 rematch game, that's for sure. :smirk:

You could always just specific the icons to have a black background. It's under the Appearance tab I believe under the desktop --> properties menu.

 Basan, can you start at the beggining? I can't find any of that in the Control Panel or anywhere.

Anywhere on your desktop, right click and pick the properties. Or at the control panel, the "visualization" option. :P
From there, it's just like the above (http://www.warboards.org/showpost.php?p=330761&postcount=7). :)

What kind of foreign operating systems do you have good 'lad? I'm using XP Home. I don't see a 'definition' tab or 'advance' tab. This is all I could see when I click on properties;

Try the "Settings" tab. In Portuguese, it's called "definições" hence my quick association (http://up.kupatrix.org/p/pview/49/Desktop%20properties.jpg) n' translation to a "definitions" tab. :P

Oh well... I just hope this can be swiftly solved now. I really must hit the hay. :concern:

Control Panel>System>Advanced Tab>Performance Settings>Check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop"

If that doesn't work, reinstall Windows.

oh yes, the general fix to everything -- reboot -- and reinstall.
