My Processor is: AMD Athlon XP 2700+ (~2.17Gh) (the way I bought it, it gets interesting later on)
My BIOS is: American Megatrends 1009.001
This is what happened. Some time ago when I pressed the power buton it got stuck for a nick of time but I thought "what the heck.." It started loading when the BIOS came up. It sayed that somekind of Settings have been lost so I had to choose between: "F1 Set Default Settings and F2 Set Settings Manually". I am not much into hardware and stuff, didn't want to mess something up so I choose to set the Settings Default. It started loading Win' started, everything normal. I got to checking my processor some time later and it showed: AMD Athlon XP 1500+ (~1.13Gh)!? A month or so the same incident happend with the button, this time I chose Set Settings Manually. There werent any options for the processor.. I saved and It contiued loading , everything normal, Win' starts up.. I check the processor and it showed AMD Athlon XP 2700+ (~2.17Gh) :o

The problem is that my processor is back to the stone age and the accident with the button hasn't occured.
How can I fix this so my clock speed stays constant?

No no.. I feel the difference and my RAM is 400 something Mh cant miss it.
I've checked the clock speed of the processor with various programs and all give same results..:concern:

It would seem that perhaps your motherboard bios thingy (technical term I assure you :P) needs a new battery.

At least thats the way I see it. Its like the Flash ROM your bios is on is losing its power and losing your settings.

If you can open your case, and check your motherboard, there will be a little battery on it (usually in the lower right corner, opposite the 'slots', but it might be elsewhere). Its basically a watch battery, so you could just pop that out, and go buy a replacement from some electronics place --- if you do take the battery out, even to inspect it, you'll have to redo the settings, but if you get a new replacement battery, then hopefully you should only need to do that once and then things should be fine.

Do wait though, because I might be talking out of my ass here -- I've had little bios troubles personally, so many someone else who is more knowledgeable about such things can suggest something. Though my idea can't hurt =P
