I don't know if you all have covered this yet, but I just sorta throw this out there.

Have any of you thought on the fact that the Madrid ings, were actually the most sucessful ist attack ever? The T's got everything the wanted out of Spain by a few hundred Spaniards, does Spain think they won't do it again of Spain does something they don't like?

Just a little food for thought.

P.S. I also think the French would cave as well if they were ever ed. (Think WW2..and WW1..)

Yup, Pulling out of iraq was he worst decision since...I dont know, but giving in to lunatic fundamentalists will only encourage more bombings.

Yes the french will cave (Again), i mean, the current joke is that their national anthem is "We Surrender"

Quite funny i think, i don't know if it is true but it is funny. (I will hate the french till the day I die)

I live in England, and while the government has been an absolute.....%&^$....$&^........ about many things but i will support the war on terror all the way

Holy thread revival!!! :D This seems to be a worthy thread. Nobody seems to have bothered with it, though.

I take issue with the notion that the French would "cave" should they be attacked. I find this to be innaccurate for two reasons. First, the French have one of the most effective anti-terror teams in the world. The nation has been fighting terrorism within its borders for decades and has it down to an artform. For example, though it didn't recieve much attention in the American media, France was also targeted for attack at the same time as Spain. It was a similar attempt, with bombs placed on the railways. France, however, found the explosives before they detonated.

I think, perhaps, that the largest difference between the Spanish and French preparedness for a terror attack rose out of the kind of terrorism each has faced throughout the recent past. Spain has primarily been fighting the ETA, an organization which, though it does (obviously) detonate bombs, they primarily attack government targets and almost always give a warning before they attack. The ETA's fight against the Spanish, then, has been primarily a bloodless fight. France, in turn, has been facing extremely violent terrorism. It has then tailored its forces towards targeting attacks from all fronts in any area.

BTW, La Marseillaise is one of my favourite anthems. Think of the words.

An English translation for you non-francophones.

Let us go, children of the fatherland
Our day of Glory has arrived.
Against us stands tyranny,
The bloody flag is raised,
The bloody flag is raised.
Do you hear in the countryside
The roar of these savage soldiers
They come right into our arms
To cut the throats of your sons,
your country.

To arms, citizens!
Form up your battalions
Let us march, Let us march!
And drench our fields
With their tainted blood !

Sacred love of the fatherland
Guide and support our vengeful arms.
Liberty, beloved liberty,
Fight with your defenders;
Fight with your defenders.
Under our flags, so that victory
Will rush to your manly strains;
That your dying enemies
Should see your triumph and glory

To arms, citizens!
Form up your battalions
Let us march, Let us march!
That their impure blood
Should water our fields

La Marseillaise is particularly bloody, very patriotic and is, without a doubt, among the most moving anthems in use today. If you haven't seen Casablanca, go out and rent it. There are two reasons that you should do this. First, it is among the best films ever made and second it is always worth watching and rewatching the bar scene when the Nazi officers begin to sing their national anthem they are drowned out by the French singing La Marseillaise. No matter your nationality it is always a reminder of the power of these songs.

Yes, and it died a miserable death. A death which I feel was undeserving, at least in the state it was presented in. So, in acknowledgement of what I was doing, I included the words "holy thread revival" before adding, what I feel is a substantive post which could reignite a legitimate discussion.

Why is all the "bomb" and "terror" deleleted from this message?

Were these bombings anything like the Counterstrike "de_" maps?

Anyway, seems the French did well, and the Spanish did not so well. Could be the difference in their counter-terrorist capabilitys, could be a difference in the actual terrorists skills, or could be random luck. I havent really heard much about this so i cant really judge. I will however throw in random opinions. Why? Because the French suck.

we should fight the terrorists like the british army fought the IRA.....kick the shit out of them for thirty years and then drag them to the negotiating table.

And if we wait for the UN to decide everything we will all have died of old age. So lets act now!
