I'm taking a trip to Iowa via car, and I need some entertainment suggestions.

Recent movies I've seen (well, rewatched) and enjoyed (to give you an image of my prefrence):
Signs
The Village
The Matrix
Animal House
Xmen
Xmen 2
Jurassic Park
Seasons 1-2 of Lost

So, basically any fantasy/sci fi movie or comedy.

I heard that Firefly was a good series, is it worth looking for?

I heard that Firefly was a good series, is it worth looking for? You should buy it immediately. It's the best sci-fi series i've seen in a very loooooong time. BUY IT! DO IT!

Have you bought it yet?

How about now?

What the hell are you waiting for! :D

Any star wars or star trek, animal house, (great!) xmen rock, but #2 wasn't that good. you don't have any adam sandler. Get anger management. Thats great.

I hope you're not the driver...

Firefly and Serenity, as suggested above, are both great. And of course, SW is classic - in a good way.

Collateral. Man on Fire. The Boondock Saints. The Punisher.

"Collateral" and "Man on Fire" were fucking great, haven't seen the others (gasp). Definitely pick those two up. Serenity's pretty good too, I haven't seen Firefly but isn't Serenity based off of it? If so, then it's probably pretty cool too.

The firefly series are pre-cursors to serenity... Or whatever.

IE: Firefly takes place before Serenity, but there are a few things doubled in Serenity (just so people would know what the story was).

Collateral. Man on Fire.

Collateral is excellent, Man on Fire is ok, but it the stylised camerawork just detracts from the film and the ending is VERY dissapointing. It's still worth a watch though.

Get Collateral, Cruise rocks in it.

Fratt Pack comedies can be fun (Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferell and some other guys)

My favourite are Dodgeball and Zoolander. Especially Zoolander, it's wacky and hilarious.

Wedding Crashers ain't bad either.

My favourite are Dodgeball and Zoolander. Dodgeball is a riot! That movie cracks me up every... single... time... without a doubt 100% ridiculous hilarity!

You would be wise to rent it... :P

Word. I laugh my ass off every time Patches O'Hoolihan says: 'If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!'
Or when he gets crushed by a massive 'Luck of the Irish' sign. heheh...
I have it on DVD, bow to my might!
Has anyone seen zoolander? If you like Dodgeball, you'd love it.

kung fu hustle
I've seen it, I thought it was horrible, or maybe I'm a bad critic of oriental movies. Tried watching it as a family- my mother walked out after ten minutes, and afterwards the rest of us laughed at it for about ten more and turned it off.

This forces me to question what you consider qualifies as "good" if that's one of the best you've seen. The whole thing parodied your typical kung fu movie. Sure it was fun to watch the guys dancing with the axes, but it really wasn't so great.

Modred's highly recommended movie:
Everything is Illuminated

Good acting, a touching story, and some very funny parts throughout most of the film. Gets quite serious toward the end, but that's where the impact comes, so it's not exactly a time for jokes.
