View Full Version : Fight Night: Round 3

The most enjoyable game I have played in a good while. If you like boxing at all, you're going to love this game. The controls are so very accurate and the AI is wonderfully unpredictable. It's not like the old days of Punchout where the gameplay was identical every round.
I can't put the controller down, I've been up till midnight the past two days. :)

Saw it at my friend's house and I guess it was okay. It's one of those games that the owner will completely rape a new player, which is the problem in multiplayer.
Looks great, but everytime a knockout lands, the guy spits stuff out. My friends like to call it noodles.

I don't know man...mike tysons game ruled the old days, a challenging game that just can't be beat. But all things aside, I have yet to play this game. I just hope there's low blows and ear bites like the 2004 fight night version. Please tell me there's the windmill low blow or other 'funny' things?

Low blows, head butts, etc. No ear biting though, so sorry. :)
Oh, and I just beat Roy Jones Jr. the other night. What a wimp! :D

I gots Fight Night 2 for the GC. You got a 360 or something?
I enjoy it, it's kind of fun, but I'm not entirely loving the GC right now. They're far too fucking obsessed with their goddamned directional C-stick. It's like every damned game has some goofy-assed control involving the yellow C-stick that is completely un-intuitive.
FN3 is available on the regular X-box, they just don't publicize it much. ;) (Gotta sell those 360's ya know.)
But you should know that the little joystick action hasn't changed from FN2, even on the Xbox. It's a bit clumsy at first, but I really enjoy the ability to duck and counter punch with that joystick. I think buttons might be a bit too difficult to perform such a move.

I concur. I think integration of a more 3-D actuator like that is a great element of gameplay. I just think it's well-overused and entirely too involved in said gameplay. I'd love to actually be able to punch, well, using a fucking button instead of with the stick; blocking and the like with it is a pretty good idea.
That, and I'm going to kick someone in the fucking crotch over the Street Fighter vs SNK type game that uses that thing's directional functionality to do special moves.

The game is beautiful and I love the non-existant HUD. I rented the game and loved it, i'm going to buy it when the price comes down. (For 360.)

Midnight! Are you crazy?!

One thing I dislike about it is how badly you have to telegraph moves in order to get punches worth a damn. As soon as I charge up the beats, my opponent has up his little counterpunch arm and he's playing the drums on my face. I prefer some facerockers, but there's a finesse to it I'm trying to master. Is there a way to swap out of a big haymaker and go to the other side? Will his face explode if I land the punch? Why was Nuts' ML thread deleted by AJ?

I screwed up and moved a post instead of the entire thread.
Noob Mod Syndrome. :)

Is anybody else having problems with blindsides? Whenever I'm boxing, it's hard to tell where to block / parry when dealing with my opponent's right-hand. I can't tell if it's up or down so I have a 50/50 shot before taking his blast to my face / abdomen. It really sucks my ass, especially when it's coming down to the wire.
By the way, Nuts, what's the name of your boxer?
I recreated Mr. Sandman from Punch-Out! Yes, I rule, and Mr. Sandman rules harder.

I don't get in close very much, so I can't say it's much of a problem. I like to fight on the outside, flurry, then get out. But yes, it is difficult to tell, I agree.

Nick is Iceman and his real name is Von Diesel. Vonderbach is my Shepherds name and I thought it would be cool to parody Vin Diesel's name. It made sense at the time. ;)
