So who here watches the History Channel? I may be considered an Uber geek due to the fact that it is my favorite channel.
I find that I often know a lot more culturally than my friends because of the History channel.
I'd like to know if anybody else watches their stuff.

Have you guys seen "how its made" or "Battle Fields"?

Uber geek? No you're not an uber geek until you start noticing the horrible inconstancies/misstated information that the history channel feeds to the gullible masses. Case in point: Conspiracy Monday. When David Icke is considered an expert kiss your credibility goodbye.

Oooooh ya. The conspiracies. You know, when the show has roswell, conspiracy, or UFO in it, you know that everything isn't going to be exactly right.

I loved History channel, but since I stopped watching TV, I haven't watched it. (Obviously.)

I don't have cable, so I can't watch it. But when I did have cable, I watched it sometimes. Every now and then, it had an interesting show that caught my eye.

David Icke pisses me off.

I love watching the History channels on things like conspiracies, ancient mysteries, <anything egyptian>, sometimes theyll do ufo related stuff that I enjoy... Edgar Cayce docus are interesting as well.

But for actual history stuff (ie: old war stuff and the like) I only find it marginally interesting.

Same thing here actually. I love UFO's and conspiracys, can't get enough of 'em though. They get a little but boring, however, when you already know all the facts.

I dislike that almost all of them are reruns though.

=/

The old history stuff I get into sometimes depending, although not to often since my dad is/was a huge history channel fan so that kind of stuff kinda got old... hehe.

My favorite history channel shows tend to do with past conspiracies, or mysteries and stuff. I also like catching that hidden tunnel (whatever its called) show about hidden passages in and out of places, I think those things are so neat.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to learn about the past, it helps guide us towards a better future. I hope...

Yeah, History Channel and/or Military Channel are probably my two favorite channels - of course, my dad, my resident uncle, and my best friend are all history fanatics, so that may have something to do with it.

Conquest was fun, but they stopped showing that; the ancient battles re-enacted with Rise of Rome (forgot the name) was interesting, too, but they kept on re-using the same clips over and over...

Modern Marvels and Tales of the Gun were pretty good, too.

It's a shame a lot of the funding went out of that channel - now there are a lot more re-runs than I would like :/

Conquest was that game thing. You're thinking of Decisive Battles, and it was made with Rome Total War.

I'd rather have the UFO stuff on Discovery Channel or National Geographic, instead of History Channel. When I want to watch history, I watch History Channel; when I want to watch science stuff, I turn on one of the other two channels.

That said, I get goosebumps when they show that one documentary about the ancient Greek inventor who discovered steam power. Hero of Alexandria or something. However, he only used it to power a spinning toy- imagine if he'd figure out he could power a vehicle with it, or a forge. It would have been the Industrial Revolution 2,000 years before the real one.

Modern Marvels is probably the best.

I don't watch much TV so I never bothered with cable. I've watched the history channel occasionally but whenever I get the chance I flick it over to one of the nature channels. Something on the Roman empire or Egypt can usually make a convert out of me though.

Besides its not like your going to given a test on what you learned ^_~

The Hitler Channel is OK, but they're really hit-or-miss. I prefer Discovery or Court TV.

Make mine Forensic Fridays. Down with re-runs.

I have heard of the History Channel from one of my friends at school. Since I don't have foxtel, I can't listen to it. But I wish I could... I am the Supreme Pro at history. :) ;)

JenJen:
I'm no history fan either. But the History channel is so much better. Like Neo said, you don't have to remember anything. All I really remember is a few of the really interesting things I watched 10+ times. Like the Lee Harvey Oswald thing.

I like the history channel. Mainly because I like to learn how things were back then and why things were caused. I also like the "Mega Movers" show they had on. That is kickass.

David Icke pisses me off.

They've actually cut back on WWII shows and increased specials about other stuff. Example, they just aired one about the Mughal Empire a few weeks ago and just finished another about George Washington.

They have another channel, called History Channel International, which focuses on more international events (dur). Then there's the Military Channel. Kinda obvious what thats about. Its not connected directly to the History Channel, but the Military History Channel is. Unfortunately, only one cable company has it.

My favorite show on THC is Modern Marvels. That show can make anything interesting. Take glue for example, the episode about that stuff had my attention the entire time. Weird.
