Perhaps we could use this thread to report all the modding research we've found over the years? A lot of it seems undocumented. I have a few iscript command descriptions that don't seem to be written anyone easily accessible.

I have seen a few of these too, but what good are they? I have so far been unable to use any "unused" sprite at all in SC! I have found some really cool things too, like this fireball ring thing, a cool lightning effect, and some attacks that look vespene based. How can i use any of these? I have tried to make a mod where i could build an additionall unit, say, sarah kerrigan, and i tried to use unused strings, like "hire merc biker" and such. Anyone know how anything "unsed" can be put into effect, since they only show up in like, only half of the tools. What you can see in one tool, say TBLPAD, you cant see in stargraft, or some stuff you see in Aresenal 3, you cant find corresponding strings and such for in other tools. Sorry if this is a bit too broad, I'm just ranting because blizzard made it as confusing as possible. (in which case they should release SC2 soon so we dont have to keep modding sc1 just to keep our damn selves interested in SC!!!!)

Unused units all use the scout iscript, so they don't have there own iscript which basically controls everything about a unit.

Is that why in starforge virtually every unused unit looks like a protoss scout?


and by the way, in arsenal 3 weapon edit, what are all the flags? There is ground, air, and like 8 others. What are those 8? I think this "collective knowledge post" would be a good place for it. and by the way, should this be like, a tack icon or somehting? I think someone said like, stickied.

Non-Mechanical Only - (0x0040+Ground+Air)
Ground, Ground Units - (0x0040+0x0010+Ground+Air)
Ground Units (No Buildings, No Archon) - (0x0080+0x0020+0x0010+Ground)

There are also other combos too, just not listed.

theres too many unused portraits but if i remember correctly all or almsot all of em r just a marine.

Ya, most unused units have a marine portrait, if I remember correctly it's because the marine portrait's index number is 0.

I'm currently trying to work on my site. I have a lot to do though. Once I manage to get into the modding section, I'll post tutorials on everything I can think of. By the way, there are two unused terran buildings which crash staredit, two unused zerg buildings which also crash staredit, and two protoss buildings which crash starcraft. Some of the unused units and buildings use the "unused" version of the scout, which is a building graphic. A lot of them use the actual scout graphic, which crashes. I have been playing with making my own Xtra editor, and found a lot of these things while doing so. I'll post it eventually, like when I can finish it up and make sempqs for it.

I already use my own editor that I made, but all you have to do is change the graphic to something that as is not a scout and you can use it in the editor.

I tried changing it, but it still crashed. No idea why. I might play around with it later, but there's not really a point to being able to place those units. Even for anti-hack, they all crash the same way. If a maphack protects against that way, it wouldn't matter how many of them you placed.

Good point... a smart enough map hacker would invent a custom that would disable the danger of those units...

I'll just throw in a couple:
Merc Biker has a portrait; however, it's not animated.
Weapons given a spell effect/explosion do no damage (unless it's Yamatoo Gun etc.)

This is worthy to note here: I found a way to make units invincible without using triggers or the invincibility flag. I was working on a cool mod, then I tested it, but then, without putting on any invincible flag on my unit, and not one unit fired at it! I tried almost everything, from detectors to attacking buildings, nothing worked. But the foresaid unit had 10000 Life and 34k+ shields. Maybe this is why the beacons can be destroyed??

2x2 is actually 32px x 32px. Because each square when grid is on in an editor, is 16px x 16px.

I'm gonna do some research on the mistakes made in Arsenal III and post them tomorrow probably... usefull to help keep people from making mistakes. An example of these is the Psi Storm and Lockdown entries are reversed, and point to each other.
