My starcraft(and overall rts community) rant.
What is people's problem? Everyone is so LAZY!
So I go on starcraft with my good buddy, hoping to get a good 2v2. So we make and rm the game. "2v2 classic" "2v2 CLASSIC!" "2:2 Classic" "clan recruitment" "classic 2v2" Ya, it was a fake clan. But still, NOONE JOINED! Like 1 person did but then he left. So we decide to join a game, but low and behold all the game names(excluding korean names) included fastest, along with the occasional BGH. Why are people so lazy that they can't stand to manage mineral control. If you want to have infinite cash, go on a single player and type operation cwal a billion times. But NO! They have to spread their filth to Bnet. I'm sick of it. Sick. I spent the better portion of my night trying to get a good game(one where you actually have to think). So we finally said, whatever we'll join a fastest and backstab everyone. So we did that. But NOO! They were all FFA's. And all the 2v2 and 3v3's never got filled. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM! Not only do you not want to handle money or expansions, you can't take a little team work or backstabbing. What's more is 25 percent had no rush 20 minutes on them! WHATEVER HAPPENED TO STRATEGY, RUSHING, TEAMWORK?
I am appaled at the sorry state of not only starcraft players, but the RTS community in general. That is, unless starcraft has become the dupming ground for lazy people who pretend to have strategy.
There, I feel better now.
Note: While this is mostly about starcraft, I made this out to all of you lazy gamers out there. Hackers, cheaters, account buyers and fastest-players: all of you.(I'm sure wb's doesn't have many of those though)

One reason why I think WC > SC is due to the n00biness of the community.
Sure, WC has some name spoofers and other minor stuff, but they are usually caught, from what ive heard.

Actually, you'd be typing "show me the money" in a single player game if you wanted billions of resources. Operation cwal just reduces building time (for units as well as buildings,) upgrades and techs.
If you want games that are non-money and not often used (as in, the maps that already come with the game e.g Challenger, Dire Straits) go to the Warboards channel - Op ORG.Network @ USEast. Play with other members on maps that you prefer.
Don't judge us all by the majority.

I usually play on Europe, an it's fine there, I got 'screwed only once on an FFA when to guys teamed up on me. But hey, shit happens ;)

A few days ago some guy said he was going to the bathroom and he didnt pause the game, well I thought he was just a newb. I muta rushed and he said "come on man, I was in the bathroom, not cool" so I held back for a while.
Long story short, it was a good match, I won cause he didnt expo enough, but you wana know what I saw?
NEVER once did his economy pause or stop building, the asshole lied!!! :mad2:

Rushing is part of the game, and if people don't like that, because it doesn't coincide with their own strat, that's their problem!
That's the same as saying that you ain't allowed to build air units because he's massing zealots or something stupid like that.

*applause* I thought I was alone on that one. I just went back onto b.net yesterday and literially every game that was readable in english was "0 clutter".. "fastest pssble@@" or BGH. If I make a normal good map (good meaning 8- mineral clusters so it requires you to use your HEAD) no people join.
I think a filter should be installed, filtering out fastest maps. and they have people that manage it to add new fast maps ot junk like that.

I'm sure most WB ppl aren't like that. Though it does make me wonder, who might be a fastest player? Blackice? GenocideAlive? AJ?
One more thing, the main reason I use maps that came with the game is because 99% of player made maps that are commonly used are fastest.

I like to play the original maps that come with the game or PGT maps. I hate maps like fastest (for the reasons listed above). The only people who tend to play me on them are people from this clan I was apart of but then broke apart.
Perhaps I should game with people from the Warboards channel.

The channel is open to all members all the time, but not many seem to come. If a set time and date is set will encourage people to visit then channel, then we might as well give it a shot. I'll make a thread about it and see if anything happens...

3rd party maps are used to stack minerals on top of each other right next to the home base (usually 50 is a good number), so that workers can sit on top of each other when gathering minerals and don't have to move to bring them to the base. It speeds up resource gathering a LOT, so you can basically just pump out units.
I liked stacking a small amount of minerals on my old mini-island maps. Used to be so much fun...

Man you have every right to rant away frazz! Good show! I know exactly how you feel. I can't join any games that have non fastest maps tied with them. Ocasionaly I'll find an L.T. game but those are all (NO NOOBS) or (PROS ONLY) so those arn't exactly the games I want to join (Hey! I like to win a least once in a while! Can you blame me?) Anyways I also am getting sick of all the trash on B.Net. Blizzard should make a rule or something like "No Money Maps. PIERIOD!) But they won't so were stuck it seems. (Damn! that made me feel pretty good too!)
I'm playing broodwar yes.
It seems money maps and fastests are nothing new, but they have grown in concentration, even ladder games use fastest.(I considered doing a ladder game in hopes of finding a classic)

Yeah I just play custom games, I stopped playing SC a few years ago though because I got Warcraft. I just never got into playing "actual" games. I won the whole capaign by cheating anyway.
I finally beat WC3 without cheating. I stink at multiplayer though.

I noticed that many people tend to "forget" about the RTS genre. I noticed this first time in my class. Only 2 people play RTS games (me and a friend), the rest say that it's just stupid. due to some facts which are unknown to me i come to realise that the majority of people are getting less and less intelligent. That's why these games are filled with noobs. It's easier for most people to wander around o a map in a FPS game and shoot a bunch of stupid things, than to play a game which requires more than seeing the enemy and pressing the mouse button. I feel really sorry for this genre cause although it has a lot of fans I fear that they will decrease in time, or at least that's what's gonna happen in my country. Never give up RTS games!

I have DSL, but for some reason it's choppy for long-range servers so I have to use east, closest.

5? thats alot. Didn't know anybodt in my city ever, never met one either. Even after we amalgimated with another city and few towns. I'd like to know some locals.
^I personally know 2 ppl in my area who play starcraft. And that's a lot, considering I don't know that many people. But I guess it depends where you live.

I know none...
which is shame, my friends would make good anti-n00b gamers.

First of all my friends are too dumb to appreciate RTS, and if they do they only like C&C generals 'cause it looks cool with explosions and tanks, they think StarCraft is just a dumb old game that looks like shit.

Worst thing is, my mate is loaded, and he's spending his money at an alarming rate. This month he's already bought a new graphical card, BF2: MC Unreal Championship 2, SW republic command, and SW battlefront.

I can second that. I play Warhammer 40k, and it is not cheap. I spend less on video games now so it balances out. But I must have poured a good 150 bucks into it.

Yeah i got a taste of those games, pretty good at it the second try. playing one tabletop game here is cheaper than those Warhammer 40k games in the states. Pretty fun, but i balance my moneh pretty well so i'm always feeling slightly richer. :)

I tried the LOTR ones, but only for the painting(the game had too many rules for my liking), which was fun for a while. Eventually I didn't really get around to it. Pretty schweet though, a mate of mine had a balrog, a mumak and the witchking on a fellbeast.
BTW, that was the same guy that spends lots of money. See what I mean ;)
PS. ahum....ALL RIGHT! 300TH POST! I can already feel the noobcells in my blood getting less and less...
LOTR is actually cheaper, and has simpler rules NastyApe... but you are forgiven :D
I collected LOTR first, and then started 40K...
Linking this back to the topic, the advantage is, you see your opponent, and the style of play means you need to respect your opponent.

Being cheaper and more simple than WH40k doesn't say much...
^The games workshop near me lets people come in on saturdays to play a battle for free. That's how my friends and I all got into it. After playing a few games and getting a general feel for the rules, my friend got the maccrage set and read all the rules. Eventually he got the real book and gave me his little one. But there are so many sub rules that even the store owners need it when playing with some games.(mostly for vehicle and special rules). The basics of the game are pretty simple though.
PS: LOTR tabletop is pretty lame. W40K is way better.
I have to disagree, it depends on your style of play. I find the LOTR more evocative, and looks better, whereas 40K is a little OTT. Still fun though, <3 Necrons.
What I also hate is when you ask how a UMS works and then get kicked, or flamed in game for not knowaing what to do. How are you supposed to know what to do if you haven't played befroe and the map doesn't often include a proper brieifng past 'made by generic mapper 17, offer sayx if u fought tihs mapz r0xx0rzed teh grenados!'

I've learned to never ask what to do until I'm playing the game and am sure there is no banning system. Though with most UMS games it is not worht it to ban a noob.
I also hate BSers in impossible missions. They're so stupid. One time my team was on the brink of victory with our top units destroyed. All we had was a medic(me), a Duran, a Montaig, Ultralisk wraith and queen. My medic was healing Duran as he attempted to take out the last spore colony to make way for the queen and wraith. Then brown(montaig) stupidly rushed in, lost all but 25hp, then comes to my medic to get healed. We had been biding our time for quite a while and I wasn't gonna let brown ruin it. So I said to stay away as did everyone else. Finally some1 killed brown. Then Duran used lockdown once the wraith(brown) started attacking. He finally died but then some1 thought we were the trouble makers and started attacking duran. They finally stopped, leaving a wounded and crippled force, incapable of beating the level. Not to mention brown's constant whining.
Sometimes bnet people make me sick.

I agree with the excessive nature money maps. I don't play on bnet anymore, because getting a good game is almost impossible, too many people playing on fastest or the games won't fill...its annoying and ruins bnet.

I'll be the minority here and say that I usualy play fastest and BGH. Don't judge me just on that though cause im always up for a challenge of any kind. Is it just me or did all the UMS maps get kinda old now and days?

Even on East I get along fine, just host your own games, the will usually be enough people that wanna join.
^What maps do you play? I always host my own games but it takes forever to get even a 2v2(even when my friend already joined).
If I join other games I always run into hacks. Especially that terran money hack. Played 3 games in a row with hacks.
