Breaking News: Halo 3 Trailer Available on Xbox Live

Halo 3 Announcement Trailer is available via free download in the Xbox Live Marketplace, Microsoft have announced in the last half hour. All you Halo fans get going! I'm going to be downloading as soon as possible.

Apparently the Covenant have discovered "something" beneath the "ancient African sands". Don't ask me. :o

LOS ANGELES--Microsoft has released the Halo 3 announcement trailer on Xbox Live. The trailer approximately 104MB large, is available free on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The Xbox Live Marketplace is available to users of the Xbox 360.

To quote the accompanying text found on Xbox Live, Halo 3 is about Earth under Convenant rule: "With its defensive forces, all but obliterated, Earth has fallen to the unstoppable might of the Convenant. These alien occupiers have discovered something beneath the ancient African sands - something incredible... something Forerunner."

Halo 2 ended in a cliffhanger, with the Master Chief, the hero of the Halo series, returning to Earth in the midsdt of a climactic battle between the Covenant, an alien coalition, and Earth's defense forces. It has always been assumed that Halo 3 would pick up seconds after its predecessor left off, but it appears now that it's set sometime a bit later in the future.

The importance of a new Halo game for the Xbox 360 cannot be underestimated. The original Halo was a launch title for the first Xbox, and was easily the biggest hit driving sales of that system. Halo 2, which launched in 2004, became a cultural event, with thousands of gamers lining up for hours for the midnight launch. Halo 2 made entertainment history by generating $125 million in sales in one day. However, Microsoft didn't mention Halo 3 at all during last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, and fans have been left wondering when the software giant would finally drop the big news.

I hope to hell they don't offer up an old decrepit Master Chief. When they say the future, they had better mean a few years max.

Edit: OH MY GOD. I just got done watching the trailer. It gave me chills, I am preordering a copy ASAP.

I saw it the moment it got released onto Bungie.net, but warboards.org wouldn't load for me. Anyway, this trailer looks awesome. Although it wasn't showing any gameplay or anything like that, I think just the graphics were enough to whet my appetite. Supposedly the setting of the trailer is a part of the single player of Halo 3. Some interesting information can be taken from this trailer though. For one, we saw Master Chief holding the assault rifle from Halo 1, which would imply that the SMG is gone. Not only that, but also that we are probably going to see the return of the pistol along with the assault rifle (This is just a guess, but it's possible). Another thing we saw in this trailer was a rampant Cortana. Obviously, Gravemind has tainted her in someway. She isn't the AI she used to be. But most importantly, we got a glimpse of the Ark near the end of the trailer. The Ark is the reason for the covenant invasion, and I'm a 100% positive that we will see the Ark sometime in Halo 3.

The pistol is perhaps the most powerful weapon in Halo in the hands of a skilled marksman. Why would you wish for its demise?

Note Halo. Not Halo 2. The pistol was overly imbalanced in the original Halo because it could be used for virtually every purpose. If it were some sort of a hybrid between the toned down version in Halo 2 and the original I'd be happy.

I'd like to see a multiaplayer even deeper than Halo 2, if possible, maybe with bots available, like in 'splitters. Mainly concerned about multiaply, since i don't own a 360, so will be playing at others' houses :P

You must be playing Halo 2 version 1.0. In 1.1, the pistol is nerfed beyond belief. It can't even kill you with one clip and all headshots. You have to reload and then shoot again. In my opinion, the pistol should be like how it was in Halo 1, but slightly less powerful so it should be four shots to kill.

There aren't going to be bots. You can count on that. Bungie has never used bots for multiplayer, and they aren't going to start now.

You can with any weapon... But the BR or sniper are probably the most effective.

BXR with BR is the only truly useable one.
Sniper just makes you lunge closer to the enemy for an easier headshot while noscoping

Carbine does. Shotgun does even though it isn't a headshot, you will still kill the guy because you will be practically touching him after lunging. Brute shot should as well. And Rocket Launcher, but you'll probably be taking you're own life with it, unless you're wearing overshield.

anywho, I alrdy posted a link somewhere around here about this alrdy, and quiet frankly I almost crapped myself when I was watching the Microsoft Press Conference.
The Trailer(which I have watched enough to memorize) is PERFECT to keep you HANGING by the TIP of your tongue untill 2007. If you read around IGN.com and gamespot.com you will find that the storyline is covering somewhere within a month or two months after halo 2...
Cortana is stuck on the other side of the Galaxy with Sgt. Johnson, some of his marines, and the Covenant Arbitor and crew who defeated the Brute character(forget his name) who attempted to activate HALO.
ALL I can really say about Halo 3 is OMFG

Shotgun BXR? I would have thought RBXBXB (etcetera) would have been more effective at melee range. That way if they also have a shotgun then you aren't going to get your head blown up when they shoot first and punch after. Also, people are normally sensible enough to throw grenades into bases first because there is a 75% chance someone will be camping the lift/entrances.

And I did it first, Wehr. ;)

She isn't necessarily evil. But she is a little screwed up now. In Halo 3, it's possible Master Chief might have to go without her.

Covenant Carbine is inferior to the BR at range, because you can't BXR and you need to be more accurate over a similar period of time.

Cortana isn't evil yet. I just suggested it. ;)
