Out Of Phase Stereo is best described as finding a new 3rd channel in stereo mix. Basically, it's everything that isn't the same in both speakers (like a rhythm track that is panned hard right and left).

From BeatlesToday.com (http://www.beatlestoday.com/beatles/articles/200605011.html)
"What you did was hook up the + and - of the speaker terminals to the + of the left channel and the + of the right channel on the amp. What this accomplished was basically hooking up one speaker to both channels, connected together but out of phase with each other, and doing this has a wondrous result, which is, whatever is the same in both channels is cancelled out, leaving only what is different in both channels. They called this concept "Left Minus Right" (L-R).

So I found a list of songs by the Beatles that this trick works best with and used a digital emulation technique of the one described above in analog to take "Eleanor Rigby" and find it's hidden track. Turns out that by cancelling out what is exactly the same in both tracks of the song that only the vocals are left and it's pretty damn cool

it depends on the mix of the song - if they mixed it so that all the guitar was on one side and drums were in the other and the vocals were identical in both channels then I could take out the vocals and leave only guitar and drums

I'll be adding some beatles to my site soon (well in the next few weeks cuz I won't have computer access for a while after tomorrow)

Interesting. Most people don't exactly have every Beatles track ever made, so perhaps a side-by-side comparison of small clips would help people understand?

The orchestration of Eleanor Rigby consists of vocals and a string trio. The lead vocal is panned hard right, and the harmony vocals which appear in the chorus and at the end of the song are panned hard left. The strings are played in both channels. So the OOPS technique causes destructive interference to cancel out or greatly diminish the volume of the stuff in the center (the strings), and the vocals are what remain.

In the original the string trio is like four times louder.

^way to trash, man.
I thought it sounded pretty nice, but I haven't heard the unaltered version so I couldn't say.

At first I thought this was gonna be another beetles singing about marijuana thing.

to be honest it's probably my fave beatles song and even without the strings the vocal melodies IMHO work great accapella ;)

^ funny post :P actually i think that was "Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen where you can hear the marijuana thing

plus if whatever is the same in both channels is EXACTLY the same it will cancel out perfectly
