When some random person just walks up to you and asks for money, saying no does not make you an asshole.

I face this problem all the time in my stay in the Philippines.
whenever you're looking for a ride, a young boy(even girl) would come always stand beside you asking for money. When i get into these kinds of situations, i whisper in the ear, point to another person, and tell her/him to ask that person for money... then i run away. ;)

Earphones + MP3 players are great for ignoring stuff :). Especially people that want money :).

Little kids often ask me for money at which point I tell them that I have some in my house. Hilarity ensues. ;)

When my friends ask for money, I ask why they need it for, and if the reason is not valid or acceptable, I tell them to go get a !@#$ing job.
When little kids ask me for money, welllll, I say I dont have any money.
I know its BS'ing them and all that...but..c'mon.

Yeah I've been in this situation lots of times, I just say I don't have any money, after all I worked hard to obtain the money why should I give it away to some1 who I've never seen before? I give money only if I find them on the ground and I'm feeling generous. :)

I have had that happen before not surprising I was in the arcade (do those still exist). I forget what I said, but it had something to do with giving his mom a vicious STD.

OK so I know this is a very stupid question but what is a STD?

Ran? You Ran? From a little kid? Neither words nor smilies can express my utter amusement at how pathetic that sounds. Were you afraid he was going to beat you up if you refused?
Bottom line is that if you can't muster up the courage to tell someone-especially a young child- that you don't want to hand over the money, then you probably don't deserve the money anyway.

As GrassDragon said, saying no is not being an asshole. They are asking you for something for nothing. Bugger them. You are under absolutely no obligation to grant them monetary favours. Just say no and let them go harass the next random person they can find.
That said... why the hell did you run? Wow, dude, grow a pair. :/

This is a magnet for such situations in my country and in the end you get threatened with a knife being asked for your money and mobilephone:(
I've been personaly mugged 7 times in daylight, once a big gang surrounded me when i was with a few friends, one of my ppl got beaten up but succeded to run away. The rest of us managed to speak our way out of it.
About the topic, well I havent been in such situation, ive been in more serious unfortunetly:concern:.
Maybe in future, spring the whole 'Godfather' speech, and make them run as opposed to you. I don't think you should lend money to strangers.
Or friends, for that matter...

I've been asked for money, depending on what they say I answer differently. If they say "Do you have some money" I say "Yes, I do." And walk away. If they ask "Can I have some money, I said "No, you can't"... and walk away. (Remove the walk away part if I'm planning to stay where I am, but usually I get asked by the vending machines, and I don't ever plan on staying there)

Hmm, I only lend money, sparingly and in small amounts, to people I trust and respect ... and that number is very limited.

You mean horror for them Fenguin. Children in your house is like putting mice in a cage full of snakes. :D
If a little kids asks me for money, if i have some spare change, I'll give him something like a quarter or two. No way am I handing a twenty over to some pasty little bugger who wants to go spend it on something that has no value whatsoever.

Negative; unless you count hobo's asking for money on the side street.it doen't take much effort to ask for money.
When some random person just walks up to you and asks for money, saying no does not make you an asshole.the little kid is black so i didn't want everyone to think i'm a racist because i'm not.
I face this problem all the time in my stay in the Philippines.

Earphones + MP3 players are great for ignoring stuff :). Especially people that want money :).that shows you HAVE money and someone bigger & older might noice that.I don't want to attract unwanted attention.Heck i don't want to attract any attention out on the street.
A few little kids at my school have done that. I just say no, and that's that.you got more guts than i do.I have an easier time saying no to older people.
Little kids often ask me for money at which point I tell them that I have some in my house. Hilarity ensues. ;)uhhhhhh.........thats creepy.

About the topic, well I havent been in such situation, ive been in more serious unfortunetly:concern:.you're right, having headphones on makes people think you're rich. Many people act like they're the victim, when really they are being stupid and fash their expensive stuff out.
Maybe in future, spring the whole 'Godfather' speech, and make them run as opposed to you. I don't think you should lend money to strangers.

No way am I handing a twenty over to some pasty little bugger who wants to go spend it on something that has no value whatsoever.little kids have no idea what the difference is between a penny and a twenty bill.So i tend not to give children any money.Anyway they tend to choke on change.
the homeless people living around my university panhandle money outside of conveinance stores, most of the time Wa-Wa. i feel slightly guilty when i say "no, sorry" because of their situation...oh my god.....you feel guilty for them?Have you no shame?most people that end up homeless have drug, gambling, and sexual problems.People who fail to prepare deserve whats coming.
you must be a really good friend then.
I am, it's my friends that are the problem. She still owes me twenty punds, one of them... I actually had one case where people asked for one pence. (just less than 2 cents, i reckon)
I gave it them and for the next few weeks, they followed me around asking for money, which pissed me off.
In a word, don't lend unless you can get interest back on it(or the people will actually pay you back in the first place!)

then i ran.
That was very... uncalled for?
No I have never been in similar situation...
The kid was asking for money. Money can be used for:
-drugs
-food
-arcade
-cigars
Ok if he was not a hobo... don't give him money. You have no fucking idea what he wants to use the money for. Ask him "for what, fool?" Then he will probably lie. If he says for chips/sweets and you're not an asshole buy them for him. If he says arcade tell him to scram. That's what I would of done.

Indeed we should not promote bad habbits if we are the older of the two.
If the other guy is older, stronger or offencive just turn arround and run like hell.
