So... how long do you guys think before someone can turn Guru? I seen plenty of them on Battle.net. I've been playing StarCraft for a long time and everytime I see someone that plays so well, I just kick myself and say what I've been doing all this time.

What does "turn Guru" mean?

I think he means pro' or gosu (http://encyclopedia.tfd.com/gosu)... only was a guru (http://encyclopedia.tfd.com/guru) a couple of times when playing online but it wasn't over SC-BW, that's for sure. *Cough*Aliens vs. Predators 2 (http://avp2.sierra.com/us/)*Cough* I sure had my fun those days... :)

I dont think that it would be about years but hours a day and practising with right people (if you win more than 50% of games you are practising with wrong people). Legionnaire (if someone doesnt know he worked as professional starcraft player in korea year or two) once said in interview that it takes ˝years to become good if you practise like 10 hours a day. I think that if you play reasonable amounts like 1-3 hours a day it take 3 years to be decent and to be really "guru" or real gosu maybe 3 years >5 hours day.

Yes, I mean Guru... they all mean the same... eh? Except gosu isn't a real word.

10 hours a day... playing for over 6 years... all that time wasted! And I'm still not a guru ;(
Sorry if the options were mostly years... it does sound kind of ridiculous after what you said lamas.

But for the majority of us here, that isn't whats happening. Especially from what I saw in the last Warboards Night. :\

Yea I know. I don't think that it's takes years of playing SC to become a guru although that helps alot. I think that there's something that you need to have that makes you good. Unfotunately many of us don't have it. :( (But hey, I'm trying!).

It's a mixture of skill, natural talent, and understanding of the game. Experience helps alot too.

It all depends on when you are considered 'guru' or not.

Id say that nowadays getting on professional/semipro level takes >10 000 games vs equal skilled or better.
