View Full Version : How do I fix dud comps?

I've been trying to get more of a challenge out of my maps, but every time I set the comps to "Execute Campaign AI script at location" they sporadically just mine and don't build anything, even if I use map settings. I am searching for greater challenges on melee maps, but setting the "Set computer script at location" to insane works like 30% of the time. The rest of the time the computer just works with the four drones i give it and harvests forever. I've changed the location sizes, and places, changed the conditional triggers - nothing seems to stop the "dud computer" phenomenon. I don't have a lot of time and just want to easily change the maps I know to work with tougher computers.
Any ideas?

Ok, I've produced a map for you which uses an Insane AI script, and it works (they actually do stuff). If you look at how it is set up it should solve your problem. Thank me later.

If you are using an AI Script (or any trigger for that matter), you have to Use Map Settings or else it won't run. :P

make a location covering their main, and run AI Script insane at that location.
it works just fine for me

Exactly. But you need to give a certain Ai according to their race. Ex- Giving a 'Terran Insane' AI to a Protoss computer. It won't work.
Also, if you set the mineral fields a little too far, the computer might not mine.
And I can't quite recall which was(were) it, but I do recall that some scripts must have had a rather large base n' units already pre-placed on the map in order to work properly. :)
Oh, and try the "custom level" ones as well. They sometimes act better than the "insane" ones. ;)

That was a given.

Hmm... my AI location is just a 4x3 over one of their mining bases - works perfectly for me :/

Uh, the map revealers are there so you can see the computer in action; purely cosmetic. You don't need them for the computer AI Script to run.

*Meh* Wouldn't that be simpler if you used the ally vision script? ;)

Doesn't really matter how you do it, I just wanted to show the user that the computer builds without the user having to bring units over to see or by using 'blacksheepwall'. Plus this map was designed in StarEdit (very basic) so I probibly didn't have access to that script anyway. It's a simple test map, it only needs to have basics.
