I've played a lot of Starcraft, but now i've started Warcraft 3 instead. I used to play Protoss. Is there a good way to utilize my starcraft skills in Warcraft? What should i do differently, what is new, etc.

everything is different, starting from the fact that you have 3 heroes to use... theír skills are needed in battle, the spells are necesary to defeat the opponent, you have to read the stats of the units and find out a way to use them well, i suggest that you go to http://www.blizzard.com/war3x and find out about the units in warcraft, donīt forget to practice a lot, try getting team games so teamates help you learn quickly, remember you learn from your losses..... ;)

If you want a race that's similar to Protoss, I'd play as Orcs. Like the Protoss, they are expensive but powerful.

He is right. Everything is different. In Starcraft, you could have up to 400 zerglings. Warcraft only allows you to have 33 grunts.

Essentially, though, you'll find that you adapt to WarCraft III rather quickly. Your skills of macromanagement - whilst not as important - are still a key skill to have, and you will find that micromanagement is generally restricted solely to your heroes. As well as this, the ideas of scouting, expanding and harassing will also come naturally to you. Hotkeys work exactly the same as they did in StarCraft (you can hotkey groups of units or buildings for fast control).

I find one of the main thing people have trouble switching over from is defense. You see alot of people in starcraft wall themselves in with defense, especially terran players. That's alot different in Warcraft. It takes longer to make most defenses, but for a starter, you should definetly go with human. I also tend to disagree about micromanagement. However much micromanagement skills you had before, there is always room and need for improvement. If you don't know how to micro at all in Warcraft III, you can lose 30 units to an enemy with 15. Thats defenitly the most major thing, its not a 'build units, click, and forget' kind of game starcraft tends to be. Try starting out with orc, their burrows will quench your thirst for photon cannons. Orcs are also very expensive, but grunts are the toughest units in the game until Knights, Abominations, Taurens, or Druids of the Talon, and even then they can be very effective. Best of luck to you, and try finding customs such as 'micro wars' that allow you to work on your micromanagement skills.

Undead builds it's buildings the exact same way as protoss. Orc is powerful and expensive like protoss. So if you want to have protoss-like things i suggest you play one of the two races.

Actually, I'd consider the Undead more comparable to the Zerg, with the Blight and Creep and all...

I think when he said that he was referring to the "summoning" part of the buildings. So yeah, Undead builds its buildings like Protoss and like Zerg ^_~.

Gameplay wise, macromanagement isn't as important as it is in SC, but you will have to micro A LOT if you frequently use casters such as sorceresses with polymorth, or banshees with possession, as well as controlling your heroes. I would say that you have to scout more in WC3 than SC, but I'm not too sure :P. The simple fact is that people playing on Battle.net usually only get one type of unit (I hate massing  ), so if you scout/harass early, you will often see what they are massing (Grrr) and be able to counter them ver-ry easily.

Yeah, as mentioned by someone before, it is necessary to control your units well, as WC3 units have more HP than SC units, but the maximum units that you can have in your army is far less. So you have to be able to retreat, force-fire and micro well to keep your army alive. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy WC3 :)

EDIT: Oh lol, I just looked at the start date of this thread. Meh, you probably know most of the things said by me by now :P

Of course not cuz warcraft is slower when it comes to evolving and food supply.
