Just got back from opening night. That movie is a real heartbreaker, it's probably the best movie that I ever wished I hadn't seen. It's really real and doesn't in any way disgrace the memory of the people on the plane. I liked it a whole lot.
Should we have a debate over whether this movie is a good idea?
I think the movie's a good idea. The incident on Sept 11 has died down and hopefully won't have a negative impact on people.

i think its a good idea. it reminds people of what happened so that we never forget and it hits a place that no other movie can because people these days are so desensitized to everything.

As a memorial, I believe the film could be useful. What I am worried about are people taking this film as an accurate, definitive portrayal of what happened on the airplanes. Considering that the tapes from the the flight were never played for the public until recently in Mussaoui's trial and that the film was already in post-production at that point (or very close to finished filming, I can't recall for certain), there is no way this film accurately portrays what happened.
Hopefully it captures the atmosophere of the event and the inevitable innacuracies will be accepted as necessary for the creative representation of such an event and not necessarily put into our history textbooks.

I just think it's a little too soon. I know the critics like it, because they have to. How could they not? Of course, there will be masterpieces on the times we're living through right now, and those will come out in 20, 30, 40 years, when the new generation can see it from a cooler perspective than us, and we can watch them and remember. I'll be waiting for those.
