View Full Version : Plans for the .org network

Well I just wanted to know what are the plans for the future of the .org network. Will there be any new sites? I am asking that because starcraft and warcraft are just 2 out of 100s of other games and starcraft is getting old. Starcraft 2 will come out later so starcraft ghost is the only thing new in the universe about starcraft. So I was thinking maybe there should be more .org gaming sites. Of course if there is no need to expand yet because the majority of the community seems to be happy but sooner or later we are going to have to expand if we want to be a growing community. So that brings us back to my question. What is going to happen to the .org network in the long run and in the short run?
I also have another question that is very related to this and I will ask it once I get some feedback on this question first.

Oh boy, I really want to answer your post. But I can't, because I'll just be getting people's hopes up while nothing happens for a long-ass time, as it always goes.
For example, I'd been planning and coding for a relaunch of Warcraft.org when the WoW beta came out. That fizzled out - too many bugs, and I don't have time to maintain the code right now. My classes this semester are absolutely brutal.
Obviously, the ORG needs to expand. Other than that statement, though, you won't get anything else out of me until mid-June, when I have the time to make things happen.

I know what you mean, sometimes school just takes out all your time and energy. I haven't even had the time to put together a nice map making group for everyone to love... and it's my holidays!
But still, I was hoping to do something more constructive than posting news, updating polls and approving submissions...

Hacks might be viable for WB, but then again if you want a forum to expand you need ideas, not hacks.
Contests for coding/graphics, perhaps?

Not really what I was trying to say. I was more like trying to say that there should be a new site on a different game than starcraft and warcraft. I mean those are just 2 games out of many.

Yeah, that is true.

The .org network has always been Blizzard related, as far as I know. But, I'd really like to see some different .org sites. Me, being a huge Halo fan, I'd personally like to see a Halo.org. As of right now, the domain is open. ;)

Haha. Thank you ZeroDarkStar. Finally someone says EXACTLY what I want to hear. Wow zerodarkstar Halo was the game I was talking about. I didn't want to mention till later but well since you said it I have revealed what game I am talking about. The reasons Halo would be a good game for a site is that there aren't many sites about Halo. Only about 3 or 4. Also halo.org is not taken yet so we can have that domain. Also Halo happens to be one of the most famous games right now and many people play it. Another thing is if we can get the site up before september we will get a lot of hits because that is around when Halo 2 is coming out.

Thing is, Halo.Bungie.Org is so huge and has so many connections that it counts for like, 10 fansites. :)

Yeah but maybe we can become as big as halo.bungie.org. I mean that we will also get visitors for sure. Also many starcraft gamers are Halo gamers.

Naw I think we should put a cstrike.org. Lotsa people play Counter-Strike everyday, and we could put things like skin downloads, new maps, patch downloads, cstrike and steam downloads, and other things(wow, so many downloadables) That would be great for the .Org network!
I'm not such a big fan of counter-strike myself, i personally think it's an overcommercialized, not-so-good game.
by the way, just because you can't load an active website at a certain URL, does not mean that it isn't registered. Halo.org has been registered for a long time.
Anyhow, Edge is spot-on about the ORG network having big plans for the future, just bare with us in waiting.. you'll see just how amazing this place can really be in due time. Til then, enjoy the forums.. surf the sites.. chat with your fellow members and await the changes that're lurking ahead. ;)

CS ain't a bad game (I still play it with friends) but do not make a CS .ORG site, there are way and I mean WAY to many CS related sites (and that's excluding all the clan sites). Besides, theres not much to talk about CS that hasn't already been said.
Although a Halo .ORG site would be nice :p.

Halo does not have too many sites on it...yet. Halo 2 has not come out yet and I am thinking that when it does everyone will realize how good the whole series is. That might mean a increase in halo sites and then there will be too many sites. This is the perfect time to start a hole site in my opinion. Well maybe a little before but we still have time. I know many people who would LOVE a halo site. I am one of those people. I think we can create a better site than halo.bungie.org.
Pardon for the off-topicness...but I have Halo (the X-box version) to blame for pretty much all unproductivity in the last for months.
2 TVs: $600
2 x-boxes: $500
2 games of halo: $100
8 controllers: uhh alot?
8 dudes and a night of halo and assorted mayhem: priceless :)
Back on topic, all these sites are great ideas, but major gaming websites like SC.org and WC.org require 3 things: Quality staff, time, and money. Sometimes it seems like the former 2 are harder to procure than the latter. Not to say that the ORG Network doesn't have plans in the future; it does. However, like AJ and Edge have said, this all takes time. And a lot of it.

Yes I was thinking of that. Time should be no problem as I am willing to help out on the site because I have a lot of knowledge on Halo and I have time. Go ahead ask me ANY question that deals with the story line or halo on xbox (Not pc and I don't know glitches so don't ask me about glitches in the game). The only problem I saw was money. Can you tell me how much it costs? If you want you can PM me the amount it costs to have a site like starcraft.org.

So Battlecruiser, you're offering to make a Halo.org site?
You know, SCraftGhost.net was originally an old geocities page by XtremetheZealot. Perhaps it might help if you did the same sort of thing to convince the guys?

Well sort off. I dont really know programming and stuff but I sure do have a lot of knowledge about the game halo so I can do all the articles and news and everything. I just can't do the site layout and stuff. Also who do you mean by guys?

I think there is a lot of support for Halo right now. In many of the polls Halo is first seed and also it wins alot of polls. One of them is the one curently being held. Though Halo might have lost it still did very good and starcraft did only slightly better than halo. Halo was leading most of the time and only lost by .3%. Also the majority of Halo players did not even vote because they play Halo on xbox not PC. You can say that starcraft did good too because it is a really old game but that proves my point because starcraft is getting old. Everyday hundreds of people, maybe thousands, are moving on to other games. One of those games is Halo and like I said many people think it is the best game ever made. That means that there should be enough people who want to come to see a halo website and the number of people who will visit will be raised higher.
Also thank you zerodarkstar for you willingness to help out but we are still in the very beginning stages of thinking of creating such a site.
For a successful site, you need a few different things, which can come in more than one person:
Ability to:
-code well
-do layouts
-write well
-knowledge of community
-ability to make content
-good PR skills
-etc.
Don't worry about money. It will come once you have all of those things. BSTRhino is right, make a geocities site or something like that and go from there.

Haha, that is exactly what my Mum always says! Gibb, are you my mother in disguise?
Battlecruiser: by 'the guys' I meant the guy who's the head honcho at the ORG network. I think that's Edgewize, although I honestly don't know for sure.
Considering you'll note all the domains and majority of the hosting being provided via Edge.. I'm quite sure it's safe to consider him your Head Honcho.
Anyhow, yes. Big plans.
Feel free to work on your own Halo site. However.. not in this thread.
There you are.
