View Full Version : starcraft
hello
me and my brothers computers are networked and he connects to the internet through mine.
when ever i play starcraft online with my brother in the same server we lag really bad. But when we play in 2 different server there is no lag what so ever. even if one of us plays star craft and the other counter-strike we dont get any lag. We both have xp and i have a 512 connection to the internet. are there any ideas on how to fix this because i have no idea.
thanks

Well, the problem probably has to do with the server keeping two connections for one IP, and your brother's computer sending info to your comp. Instead of using a computer as a software router, I suggest using a hardware router, and seeing if that helps.

Most ISP have more than one number that they use to get you online. I believe you can change it if you want to. I have no idea how, but i read that on the Blizzard help section. You can try to change the ISP number for your brother's computer. Me and my friend have the same problem. we are still working on it. Maybe it will work....

It's a problem with Starcraft. When Starcraft was created, most people who had an internet connection only had one computer, so there was no need to worry about multiple instances of the game coming from the same external IP address. However, now that many people use routers or internet connection sharing to put multiple computers behind the same external IP, this problem has become apparent. The only way to solve it is to get a second external IP address (usually costs more money and might not be do-able) or hope that Blizzard changes this with a patch.

Do you need help setting up a network game, or is that not working correctly?

The Starcraft Compendium (http://www.battle.net/scc/). It probably has everything you'll want to know about Starcraft. Cheat codes (http://www.battle.net/scc/cheats.shtml), control groups (http://www.battle.net/scc/GS/control.shtml#control), location markers (http://www.battle.net/scc/GS/control.shtml#funct), etc.
