There is so much ambiguity over the concept of "terrorism" and what exactly qualifies to be a "terrorist" or a "terrorist act."

Really there is no consistant definition of the word. As far as I'm concerned it's a form of Newspeak designed to subtely coerce the population to achieve the governments aims.

Its where an organisation murders a group of people for political means, to try to convince the leader of a nation to act as the organisation intends. The civilians are often collateral damage, and not intended to die apart from to convince the leaders of the nation to act as the organisation intends.

I would say terrorism would be the use of others' fear to acheive one's aims.

However, I would have to agree that the term is thrown around too much lately, in fact one could say that because of how much its thrown around, those who use the term 'terrorism' a lot are actually using a slightly terrorist technique to, as you said, coerce the population to achieve government aims.
Am I right?

Does that make me a terrorist for pointing that out?

So for instance, the United States and Great Britain are terrorist organizations or...?

I don't know if your "right" but I certainly agree with you.

It seems that any definition we can possibly come up for "terrorism" applies to the United States. Is the United States government a terrorist organization?

I'd have to disagree with some of that.

A terrorist is an organization that commint murder, arson or any acts causing terror. They are not required to be motivated by political motivations, they can also have religious reasons or enviromental reasons. They directly target civilian targets (Hamas suicide bombers blowing up buses in Israel) The reasons for these attacks can be either just to cause terror (suicide bombings) or can be directed at changing a certain thing in society for example, E.L.F (Earth Liberation Front) burning down a housing development to protest deforestation.

One thing I should note is that there is no blanket definition for terrorism no matter how badly we want there to be one.

So basically every government on the face of the Earth is a terrorist organization.

Come on man, you can do better than that. Suicide bombers don't blow themselves up "just to cause terror." That is Bush rhetoric. They have political motivations, i.e. independant Palestine, etc.

No terrorist group wants to "just cause terror." That is part of Bush indoctrination with the whole "evil terrorist" thing. I can understand demonizing the enemy but Newspeak and bullshit are not necessary.

And what does it mean to "target" civilians? When US warplanes destroyed Iraqi infrastructure during the war, including the civilians in them, was that targetting civilians?

finally I found someone that understands the whole thing ...

I think Terrorism is bush's mission to conquer the world, while saying "it's anti terrorism" well USA created those terrorists, by supporting what is called "Israel"
