So the engineering experts in the field are telling Bush that these trailers were not being used to make biological weapons but Bush and Cheney decided to go ahead and tell the public "we found 2 trailers used for making biological weapons."

"We know, for example, that prior to our going in that he had spent time and effort acquiring mobile biological weapons labs, and we're quite confident he did, in fact, have such a program. We've found a couple of semi trailers at this point which we believe were, in fact, part of that program. Now it's not clear at this stage whether or not he used any of that to produce or whether he was simply getting ready for the next war. That, in my mind, is a serious danger in the hands of a man like Saddam Hussein, and I would deem that conclusive evidence, if you will, that he did, in fact, have programs for weapons of mass destruction."

"[T]he reporting that we had prior to the war this time around was all consistent with that -- basically said that he had a chemical, biological and nuclear program, and estimated that if he could acquire fissile material, he could have a nuclear weapon within a year or two."

Dick Cheney seems to forget that right before the war all the UN inspection teams reported absolutely no evidence that Saddam was planning to resume his nuclear weapons program. They didn't have any indication that this might be the case. In fact the administrations claims seem to contradict nearly every UN finding just before the war.

But what do weapons inspectors know compared to the CIA?

What I really want to know is what is going to happen with the Iranians. Seeing as they are highly suspect of developing nuclear weapons do you think that we'll attack them next?

It's not a conspiracy theory anymore than astronomy or geology is a conspiracy theory.

If Iraq were successful then yes, but since it has been a collosal failure we will probably either "deal with them diplomatically" or use Israel for airstrikes.

Sorry for not reading all the posts in any detail. I think they (Cheney and Bush) really are clutching at straws here to justify the war.
I'm from the UK and people are beggining to feel the same way about Blair.

From what I understand (haven't read the articles you linked, but read an AP article on the topic previously), the experts claiming these were not biological labs were part of a Pentagon investigation; however, the CIA issued a contradictory statement the day after the Pentagon report was released.

It would be nice to know exactly what happened to that Pentagon report and why it was not even mentioned by the administration. Admitting that these were not weapons factories, or at least leaving open that possibility because the evidence was not yet conclusive (someone should have validated the data, a third party outside the Pentagon or CIA) would have been much better than blindly claiming these were weapons factories.

It's kind of like wondering why the administration ordered wiretaps but did not go to its secret court, which could make the actions legal in retrospect. Something just isn't adding up. There's a certain amount of error that can be attributed to poor intelligence, but in case such as with these trailers, recieving two contradictory reports in such a short time span should have set off some red flags...
