Dia Dhuit, mo bos.

Starcraft came out in 1995. In 1998, Brood war became available. That makes a difference of about 3 years, give or take a couple months.

It's now eight years later, and there is no Starcraft II. Starcraft: Ghost, the cookie that Blizzard gave to us to make us hush is now indefinitely postponed. Us nerds have either departed to Warcraft, left the gaming world, or cling half-hopefully to the promise that Blizzard made to someday "return to the Starcraft world".

Something must be done.

Therefore, I'm half-ready to arrange something with Blizzard to write Starcraft II myself. It'd go something like this.

I'd ask for-
1. permission to work on a Starcraft II storyline.
2. Chris Metzen's help in working with the Starcraft characters.
3. All information on Starcraft Ghost's plotline (just so I know what will and what won't affect a possible Starcraft II plot)
4. Permission to share this information with a small number of people who will help me design units.

In return, Blizzard would have-
1. A contract on me insisting on my silence on any and all inside information I might receive from them.
2. Someone working for them that won't require any payment at all for working on the idea.
3. The ability to either accept or reject my plot, unit designs, and other ideas.

In essence, they would get a story that they are in no way required to accept and all it will cost them is information.

What do you think? Do you dare me? :D

What would differentiate you from all the other info-hungry fans that want to work on SC II?

they probably are already working on SCII. I'll bet you on it.

My advice:

Become a fanboy of a different company... one that can produce things on time to a certain degree. I'm mostly fed up with Blizzard, the first thing that deterred me was all the inane patches they kept releasing for Starcraft. Now they are cancelli... er excuse me 'post-poning' Star Craft: Ghost. I've had enough of it.

Half Life and VALVe forever! =P

As for the SC 2 thing... no

Just

No.

StarCraft was released in 1998, with the Brood War expansion pack being released only several months later.

Blizzard, as with any other large company, has a policy where they can't accept any outside ideas, etc., for use on any of their game. It protects them from people claiming that their ideas were stolen, etc.

Can I write novels, screenplays, theatrical productions or other adaptations based on your games?

No. Blizzard Entertainment® reserves the right to extend and expand our properties to other media. We want to provide a consistent story and universe for our customers, and want to ensure that only the highest quality, officially licensed and approved material is created based on our characters and other creative properties.

Can I get authorization to do an expansion pack, novel, screenplay, theatrical production, or other adaptation based on your games?

Unfortunately, Blizzard Entertainment® cannot accept unsolicited ideas or submissions. As a result, we will not be able to review or authorize any submissions related to expansions, novels, screenplays, productions or other adaptations.

I realize that in your post, you stated that you'd technically be working for them, but if you're serious, I have a feeling you wont even get a response from them. You're no different from the countless fans that they have. :/

Go ahead and try, if you want. You have nothing to lose. :)

If I ever learn to program (which I am planning on doing) I'm just gonna get a bunch of freinds together and we're gonna make starcraft 2 ourselves!.... Sort of a big goal, but one can dream....

Well, I would be a fanboy for another game, only the sex change operation would be too expensive. ;)

And Black Ice, thanks for correcting me. Where'd the heck I get 1995 from?

How do you know they're making it? Sure it makes sense for them to, but that's not necessarily evidence that they are.

There is no evidence, only optimistic rumours, I'm afraid.
It's a nice idea, CWAL II. (just like to note Feather sword called me General on SC.org, this title ain't self-proclamimed:))
Lot's of questions to be answered, etc.
I think we should just pressure them, that's waht made them so despearte to keep making WarCraft.
Apparantly, SC was first made when people were like, 'ok guys, bored of orcs now, lets have something in space'
So we need to make sure they know people are bored of Orcs again.
Unfortunately, WoW and it's expansion the Burning Crusade won't help.
