I have never played Starcraft before although being a huge fan of online gaming ive just not really got round to this one...

My question is ... is it a bit late in the day to join this game or does it still have a popular / thriving community. Dont really want to get into a game which is falling off.

Thanks in advance for your advices, if anyone can offer some good links for a New player i would love to have them Cheers MEGASTAR

Wow, ya. Warboards is a great community of StarCraft and It's been populare for over 8 years. You can join on b.net (which is free on-line play) and can see many games being hosted and many players idling around chatting. You can see many videos of StarCraft here; http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=StarCraft. They're pretty intresting...

And Welcome to Warboards, I know someone else will patch you with the rest.

As surprising as it sounds StarCraft still has a huge user base despite being 8 years old. There are fan sites across the net, and tournaments are held world wide. Our WB community (linked with the huge StarCraft.org) is going strong, especially in the maps and mods area.

I would recommend it...it is like a whole new universe!

You will learn about micro and macro and progamers and real tactics and strategy.
If you become good at starcraft you will be good at every other RTS.
The graphics although outdated in comparison, on their own they are pretty good. The ground is solid, the movements believable, great dying animations and aesthetically pleasing buildings.

Battle.net is still going strong...you will always alway find someone hosting....even at 4 in the morning.

The graphics are not Doom 3, but I'm sure you already know that. The gameplay is really strong though, and it benefits from being out so long by being really balanced, as opposed to some of the newer RTS's (from what I hear, WC is still suffering from some balance issues). Plus, you will never run out of people to play with on Battle.net.

And welcome to WarBoards Megastar, I'm glad your first experience with us was a pleasureable one :)

It takes some time to get into the game, mind you.
I've tried to get three of my mates hooked on SC, but they never really got into it. It actually only get's interesting once you can beat a computer. A whole new world will open, it's good fun. I'm sure you'll find enough crap people on WB or Bnet to practice with, you might wanna PM me some time ('cause I suck something awful).
Welcome to Warboards btw!

Yeah, SC is like a religion and it has its own country of members from noob-pro. If ever there was a old game thats is still popular and playable today its SC. The only rule is you have to use Zerg, because Terran and Toss are stinky. :)

One may even say StarCraft r0xx0rz teh s0xxorz.
Nevertheless, as I have said before, it is well woth getting into.
There is a learning curve to master, and the campaigns don't quite teach you it, but it is popular. Just check sites like this and SC.org for further proof.
