Microsoft vs. Apple

Now I hate the way that people assume that Microsoft and Apple are competitors. Microsoft does not represent IBM compatible PC's just because most of their software is made for that type of computer. As a matter in fact, Microsoft has a division that makes software just for Apple computers, and that division only uses Apple computers. Why is it such a surprise that Microsoft bought G5's a couple of months ago? Now I understand that they have competitive OS's and audio encryption formats, but the ones produced by Apple really only fill a market niche and are no threat to Microsoft. Apple's real competitors are manufacturers of IBM compatible PC's, like Dell and HP/Compaq. But even then Apple has still filled a market niche for video editing, graphics design, etc.
