I need to create an account for Battle.net. Is there any way I can do this without connecting to Battle.net through StarCraft? Every time i try, it takes an indefinite amount of time "Downloading Terms of Agreement".
Another couple of things. Are we still playing on Battle.net with StarCraft because we don't like WarCraft or is it our computers are too old?
The other thing. I am a decent 'Toss player, but i don't know how I'd hold up on Battle.net. Any tips? I already know...
-only need 1 or 2 probes building
-3 probes to an assimilator
-reavers next to shield batteries are a good ground defence
-12 scouts and 12 corsairs are on standby for attack hotkeyed to 0 and 9
Also it would be nice to know some tactics others use and how to counter them.

First, I dont like Warcraft AND my comp is too old (Pentium 2!)
For good stratagies, I advise you to look at http://www.starcraft.org and see the stratagy section there, there is some shit I could never think of on my own there, but jenerally, my tip would be, learn to molest the enemy (it wastes both your and their resources, but its worth it) and then learn to drop reavers in enemies' base, the whole screen goes POOF!

Sorry forgot to add, practice the reaver drop vs computer untill you master it

Sorry again, but I cant get too specific about either of these, thede require personal xp.

Try downloading and installing the newest patch http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=msc0411p and try connecting afterwards.

The other thing. I can't speak for everyone, but I still play it on battle.net cause it's the best game ever made. I have WC3 and my comp can handle it, but it just doesn't compare to SC.
I am a decent 'Toss player, but i don't know how I'd hold up on Battle.net. Any tips? Download and watch some replays from sites such as http://ygclan.com , http://www.gosugamers.net , http://www.pgtour.net , http://www.wgtour.com

First two are right. 3rd one is ok, but usually not that useful (cannons + ht's are the best defense). 4th one is just wrong. Scouts are too weak and too expensive to be effective vs. any experienced player.

Whatever you do, don't look at strategies from the site posted by ExplodeDOOM. They have the worst, most ineffective strategies I've ever seen before, period. This will probably offend some people here since these boards are part of that site, but sadly, it's the truth. That site is resposible for countless SC gamers never emerging past noob status because they actually believe and try to master the strats on that site, when those strats are actually impossible to master because they're completely useless and easily countered.

OK fine you win. But I dont paly on b.net. and if you actually read through some of them, they have some interesting shit...which, again may not work on b.net, but...heh, I should get internet again...
BTW, I dont use any of the strats listed there. I steal bits and pieces of them, and use them. I said they have INTERESTING shit there. Shit. most of it anway I agree.
And just a little bit to add, I have only rescently started playing SC mainly again. I played it alot n 5th grade. Through middle school, i couldnt find time, but I played a little. 8th grade I played TWICE. no im back on. b4 5th grade I played it, but less than in middle school.

And scouts can be good in small quantities when used in the right places, but yes they are too expensive. Zealots and Goons can accomplish what no army of scouts can...

ExplodeDOOM has got to stop swearing. And Cpt. Chronic, I have the 1.13f patch, and I can connect to battle.net, BUT I need to create an account, and it takes forever literally to "Download Battle.Net Terms of Use Agreement"

Well, if that's the only problem, I could make an account for you. Just private message me here on the forums what you want your username/password to be and I'll create it for you.

I think i PM'd Cpt. Chronic, you know, BUT I think they have something against using the same serial number or something, right? If it helps mine is <CD Key Deleted>

Harrierfalcon, you do not want to post your cd key here. Someone else can grab ahold of it and use it to get on Battle.net without paying for a legitimate copy of the game, locking you out from playing.

Ah... good point. Is PMing it ok? They might be able to be intercepted...

You really don't need to give him your CD key anyway. What would he do with it? He can create the account with his copy of SC and you should be able to use it fine.

I thought there was something about not using the same CD-key twice on Battle.net

You can't use the same CD key with two copies of the game on Battle.net at the same time, but I don't think it links your CD key to an account when you create it. I'd just PM him your desired username/pass and realm and you'll be fine.

Hey Harrierfalcon, I got you all setup with the name/pass you msged me with and put your email address in the b.net service in case you forget your password or someone changes it-- you'll be able to have it sent to your e-mail if one of these happens. Other than that, never, and I repeat NEVER give you cd-key to ANYONE, even if they say they work for Blizzard--noone, no matter what. People like to steal cd-keys because they either got their cd key banned or muted from b.net or they like to run "bots" in the b.net channels.

Hope it all works out for you, and enjoy b.net

btw, I signed you up on US East gateway.

That's fine. Try logging on and see if you can connect. You don't actually have to live in the same area as your b.net gateway, it's just suggested that you do so because you will likely have less lag when connecting to people closer to you than on the other side of the world. Although, I've played many games with no lag with people in Korea, China, Serbia-Montenegro, Spain, Australia, etc...

It's an IBM 600 Laptop with Windows 98SE. 228 MB of RAM, and I have Yahoo! SBC DSL.

If you have a solid connection that doesn't drop normally, that seems like it should be enough for SC. Is it wireless? I would suggest hooking up a mouse to play SC. Playing with a notebook pad or that "IMB ball" is frustratingly difficult.

Seems like you may have problems unrelated to SC....like too much spyware or a virus?

Probably. I have a mouse and the wireless doesn't ever drop out normally. I'll scan for SpyWare. Maybe it's the critical updates for windows.
