Official WarBoards Night: StarCraft

I'd like to organize a night where all of our lovely WarBoardians can get together and rip each other apart on the battlefield. No hunting for games or having to deal with jerks for allies, WBN will match you up with other WarBoardians to play your favorite game.

Things I'd like from you:

Some kind of indication that you are interested in participating in a WBN.
Your Battle.net account name and preferred realm (you may need to start a new account on another realm, I'll address this in a moment).
Whether you'd be willing to use TeamSpeak to communicate with your fellow WarBoardians during play.
Favorite maps or styles of play. (Dying to play a 2v2v2v2 with competent players? Let me know!)
What time of week and day you would be able to play.


When I have a significant number of people sign up here, I will decide which realm would be most appropriate to host this on. You may need to create a new account for WBN, but it only takes a minute anyway. We will probably be able to play many games over the course of a night, so you'll have the opportunity to play with a lot of maps/gameplay styles/people.

I don't know why TeamSpeak is not used with SC, but I figure it'd be a fun way to add a social dynamic to this. Plus, it's much quicker to just hold down a key and talk to your allies than having to type it.

I'm also entertaining the idea of having a "Member Featured Map", where all you mappers would create maps and we'd get to play on a few of them, instead of the generic Blizz ones.

And lastly, we can make this tourney style or more casual, or maybe a little bit of both. I'm open to any and all suggestions on anything discussed here, and if you think of something that would be a cool addition, feel free to post in this thread.

TeamSpeak, as critter said, is a voice chat program. It's most used with MMO's to organize large groups of people (your clan for example) and communicate quicker. You could use it in team games to bark orders at your allies or taunt the opposition.

Yes. Create ums maps that say ob, or in wgt case, (o) at the end.

Also, if it's a map with more players then are playing, you can have the observers play as terran and lift their CC and ally all players (not vision) and the players ally and vision them

I'm not good enough to stand up to the standards of many playerds of warboards, but if you need another player, I might be able to chip in (big word, might, depending on when it happens.)

Hopefully I'll switch my home 'Net connection onto a better system tomorrow night and then you may count me in, although am extra rusty at regular SC-BW (as in, don't play it either vs. humans or AI in more than 3/4 of a year). If anyone is up to take this rookie into their team, gladly count me in. ;)

And btw, for using a voice communication system I still need to find if I can plug my mic' + headphone set on my laptop and then try that program, although I've heard from a couple of friends that Skype (http://www.skype.com/) does that too.

Edit add: Just noticed that we still haven't a GMT timeline and a specific date to 'meet' online. My GMT is 0 (same as London), will be online mostly at nights and on weekends at afternoons. :)

Asumming that my time difference is > +5h than yours maybe we can pull some stuff up. I generaly arrive from staying with my friends and gf about 2-2:30 AM. So, if it would occur in your mid afternoon, I still believe that we can get this done (read, my participation). :)

I don't know a lot about Skype, but I know TS is free and relatively easy to use. For those of you that don't have a mic, you can still listen in to those that do (if we have enough to make using TS worthwhile).

It's free. And from what I've heard it can pull audio conferences just dandy, thus fullfilling our aim here.

Okay, right now we're doing a sort of mini tourney. It's casual so don't worry about the standings at the end, but it will give a little competitive edge to some of the games :)

So the champion of our first casual WBN tourney is Suicidal! No fancy prizes for you, just bragging rights :P

It seems that everyone has left the channel except for me, so I guess I can consider this event over. It lasted around 4 hours with dozens of games played, including a ton of 1v1's, several 2v2's and 3v3's, a bunch of FFA's (including one with 8 people!), and one 3v1 (don't ask :P). 12 out of the 20 people that I PMed showed up, which I consider a great turn out. A bunch of you said we should do this again and I definitely plan on it, but let's catch our breath from this one before we do another ;)

Man, that was fun! We should do it again, but definitely at a different time then plz. I doubt that next time my parents will be away. Where I live it was 2 in the morning. Can we do it a bit earlier?
And I lost pretty much everything, but there is one thing that I 'm proud of, I beat Skyriader, which I didn't expect.

We didn't end up using TS. I thought it would be a cool idea, but I didn't get a good response to it in the thread, so I just scrapped it. I think next time I might try skype with my 2v2 partner in a game or two to see how it works.

Next time I will definitely do it earlier so that it is early afternoon in the States and at night (but not too late) in Europe. And next time I won't screw up the timezones, I promise.

Awwwww.... It figures that I would've play'ed GD in the torney.(Damn brothers and sisters!!!) We definetly need to do this earlier next time I soooo wanted to play you bad. As for Suicidal... ehh I could've waited.:P

Any it was a ton of fun. Challenging but not overwhelming. And I learned some very important lessons too. We really need to do this again. It was a blast

Btw heres the rep for me n critter if anyone cares. I actually didn't think of what I was doing untill about halfway into the game when I thought "shoot! I'm going tanks vs Zerg!" It turned out pretty well though allthough Nasty_Ape later showed me that you really don't want to get in the hang of doing that.lol

I don't currently have a day planned for the next one. Right now I'm working on a physics final and don't really have time to plan this stuff. By the end of the week there should be a day posted and I'll start a new thread for it. And I promise to make it early in the day this time.

No prob I'm used to not winning all the time. I guess I didn't scout as well as I usually do(As least jugeing from the rep) When I saw a fast extractor and a hydra den Lurkers imediatly popped into my mind. And Tanks+Scanner>Lurkers. But as the zerg can so quickly make a change of plan and Tanks+Scanner<Mutas so you got me that time. But don't go thinkin it'll be so easy next time either pal.

Scared? Who said anything about being scared? Tanks are better vs lurks because:
1. They're stronger (150 HP + 2 Armor)
2. Lurkers are larg units so the Siege Tanks attack of 30 takes full effect.
3. Add scanner so you can see where they're at when they burrow.

Exactly You could've torn through about hlf my base before I took out any sizable lurker force with the few wraiths I could've come up with. And you could just counter those with about 6-12 hydras.

Exactly what I said. But you time fram seems a little bbetter. I mean mabey even just once a month or once ever two months would be good. That way we'll be able to really look forward to it. And it'll give us a chance to really sharpen up our skills. So mabey none of us will "Suck so horribly".
