View Full Version : Braces & an Operation....

Well ya'llz, there has come a time in my life where I need braces and that time is now, lolz.

I'm gonna be going to the orthodontist pretty soon to take care of my teeth. Don't get me wrong, they aren't jacked up or anything--You guys have seen my pics, lolz :P

But I've been keeping something from everyone about my teeth.....I have an underbite. You can't see it, because I don't take pictures of myself looking sideways or anything, lolz. But I have a VERY visible underbite, and the only way to correct that is with surgery.

I never thought I'd admit this to you guys, because I figured I'd get made fun of for it (Which I was in high school, but after I threatened to beat the girls up who made fun of me they stopped, lolz :P [Keep in mind this was BEFORE I decided to walk in love ;)])

So anywayz yes, before I can actually get braces, I'm gonna have to get an operation. The doctor's are gonna come in, break my jaw, push it back, and then wire my mouth shout for a whole month and a half. I'll be eating through a straw, but the great part about this is--I'll lose some weight! w00t!! :D So I am very much so looking forward to all of this. The doctor's say I'll be in the hospital for like three days after surgery, but I'm believing that I'll be outta there within one night :)

So hopefully I'll get this done before I go and see Nissa in June. That way I can talk normally, lolz.

But of course, my cell phone bill will probably be cut in half cuz I won't be talking as much, lolz (Giv'n ya a head's up Nissa and Geno ;)) I'll still be able to talk, just not normally like I usually do. Which will be hard because I DO talk a lot....:P

Anywayz, wow....I feel so much better after admitting this to ya'llz. I've been keeping this to myself for about....4 1/2 years now? Yup :D 4 1/2 years.......That's a long time, lolz.

Your personality becomes all the clearer. I feel sorry for you, PC. :(

I had a friend undergo the selfsame operation. I never thought his looks needed any help, but you may think otherwise. He swore he looked better, but he really went crazy on Morphine. Maybe you should just forget about it and spare yourself the face-breaking thing. :S

When you get the braces, don't eat anything but very soft foods for a few days. Also, if you have to get spacers, I advise you not to eat ANYTHING. It WILL feel like you've been hit in the jaw with a hammer.

Good luck. :D

Auch..Sounds brutal lol, Hopefully there'll be anaesthetic in decent quantities ;).

But you'll make up for that on the boards right ? :)

Hope it goes well and you recuperate nicely PC

Doctors are evil, don't trust them. A doctor had me wear a stupid plastic construction around my neck for no good reason after our car got hit by a drunk driver. He drove slowly and didn't hit us hard at all.

Aw, PC, if something stupid like having a lil' problem with your teeth is all that you've been hiding, you don't have anything to wory about :D Nobody would make fun of you for it, and if anyone did, the almightly wrath of Warboards' collective user base would walk all up and down their ass. Babe, you're one of the nicest people I've ever met (albeit on a message board) and have nothin' but love in your heart.

(eh.. where did that come from? Warm fuzzy feeling?! Oh no! -wink wink-)

Anyway, good luck with it.

I am trying to get braces next year. If possible, check into getting plastic braces, I've heard it helps self confidence then metal. Your teeth will feel like a mac truck hit them, but it'll be nice once the braces are off. Think 4 1/2 years well worth it!

Yea, I have a question about that. I've never actually had braces before, so do they actually hurt? i probably should goto the dentist, I've never went to their either. not because of my not wanting to, but the insurance doesn't cover dental visits. Damn them.

What you don't know if that your neck could've been damaged AFTER the fact. Just because it doesn't hurt immediately doesn't mean nothings wrong. You wore it for a reason, not because he felt like making an ass out of you.

That would mean admitting that we are wrong, and of course we never are, and they the doctor might actually know what he's talking about, and we all hate that. Eh.

I wonder what doctors are like outside of work... or lawyers.

Can the underbite really be bad enough to warrant breaking your jaw and eating through a straw for a month?

You know, I'm inclined to agree with GA and sololop... is that really worth it?

I know that we're just a bunch of nameless (Hi, I'm Josh!), faceless (Me! (http://myspace-928.vo.llnwd.net/00527/82/97/527827928_l.jpg) Me again! You sound like you have your mind dead set on it, and that fine, but I don't think something like that would be worth it. (Love ya anyway PC ;) )

Vanity? lolz :P

Actually my parents are all for it and so am I--I'm not one who tends to be scared to get operated on or anything, fear does not inhabit my life when it comes to these kinds of things :)

My cousin actually had a worse underbite than I, she got the operation as well. I'm honestly fine without the operation, I can do without it, I really wouldn't care--But if the option is there--Why not? It's only gonna help me.

To tell ya'llz the truth--I have trouble eating because of my underbite. I can't bite things from the front, I have to bite things from the side. If I bite things from the front, it doesn't chop it in half--Like sushi! When I eat sushi, I've tried biting down in the front but because I have an underbite and it's not even, the stupid seaweed doesn't break and it hangs there, messing up my sashimi roll >.<

So I have to bite things from the side so it'll break. It's really annoying having to bite things from the side >.<

Dude, seriously, shut up. Ppl are mean, they make fun of others for stupid things. If I decided not to say anything about this, then that’s my own business. Now because I am having corrective surgery, you are saying I am all up in vanity or whatever :P You don’t know me, so stop judging thank you very much.

At everyone else: Thank you for your support and comments, I appreciate you all! I should be having this operation within next month. I’ll keep ya’llz updated :)

Yo, PC. I feel at least some of your pain. Be strong. Chin up. Blubber like a baby. Thats what I will do when I get my braces on tomorrow. Nah, I kid you. About the blubbering part that is, the braces on tomorrow part is true. Hope it all goes great for you PC. Oh, and I would never have made fun of you. If kong admitted this about himself, I would make fun of him, but not of you.:D GL. Oh and just think, when the operation is over, and then later, braces are finally removed you will look all the better.

Vanity will often drive people to take drastic measures. That's why it's a sin! It's vain if it is done only for the purpose of improving image. Although some may argue that looking better improves certain aspects of mental/emotional health, that is extremely dependent on the case. I believe that in a situation such as this, regarding dental surgery, that most corrective surgeries are truly corrective, as problems could easily arise from having abnormal placement of teeth. However, PC's reactions to the original problem hints at vanity, albeit very slight and more of an overfocusing on her faults, whereas most people would not give it a second look. What I mean by this is that although PC does have a bit of an emotional problem regarding the condition that some could classify as vanity, I believe that the braces are, while not a definite requirement, definitely going to be positive to health by preventing possible conditions that could develop, as well as assisting her in what seems to be an overriding fault that is a major negative factor in her self-esteem.

I talk too much when I'm not constantly posting.

You don't need to talk... at least not with the way you usally post, that is. :D

Now on a seriouser note, I hope it all goes well because it's quite an undertaking procedure from what I read on your 1st post (read, mostly on the braking jaws to correct'em part particularly with your age). ;)

I had braces for two years, that should have straightened my teeth and corrected the minor underbite I had. Now, about six years later, my teeth are becoming crooked, my underbite is getting worse, and my wisdom teeth (which are causing all the crowding problems) still haven't come in far enough to be pulled (so they will probably be cut out).

So yeah...I may be joining you sometime soon. Good luck with the operation!

Ouch, hitting people in the face with hammers and glueing their mouth shut just for a dental procedure. Well maybe not quite, but I really would hope you get a general anesthetic rather than a local for that one

Oh, and stop going on about vanity and all that. If you dont have vanity or shame you might end up like me :P haha.

And if its stopping you eating things then go for it, I would HATE to be unable to eat things properly.

Also, dont worry about people taking the piss about it, there are oh so many more things about EVERYONE that are better for taking the piss out of :D
