Hey! Everybody out of NZ would probably say, WTF? The 40HourFamine is practically going without food(except for barly sugars and Just Juice), or Technology, or talking, or watever, for 40 hours. To raise funds for children in 3rd world countries.
Would you do it?

Fuck that! They can get jobs and pay for their own food and water.
What? You say they can't get jobs? Well then, that's too bad. They should have thought of that before they were born!

People sponsor you for the duration of the famine.
Say some one agrees to sponsor you for $1, then they pay $1 for each hour that you complete. So if you complete all 40 hours, they pay a donation $40.
It is also suppose to be a kind of educational thing, children in third world countries will often go even longer than 40 hours with out food, its an attempt to educate people in how those children may feel.

Toucan27, how did you know? Do you live in NZ? Anyways, You can also sponser in lump funds for the 40/20 hours. Like someone pays you 10$ for the 40 hours.
Im doing it, and it gives you an excuse to never leave the computer. (Except to go to the bath room.) just keep your Barly sugars and juice becide you and computer on! Unless your doin the Technology Famine.
And how would you like it if you were starving, have no education, and live in the streets, and someone said to you "Go get a JoB!"

I knew that! uh, What would you peoples famine? I hear that somepeople have put themselves in the middle of a city for 40 hours, not moving from an 3 metre radius!

Sounds too easy if you're going to remain entertained by your PC. Try water only, no technology, then I'll be impressed. I fasted for 2 days once, it's a wonderful feeling to cleanse your body of all its impurities. At some points I had amazing boosts of energy. It was strange to say the least.

I've done a 30 hour famine at my church, and I got the most sponsors too...I ended up with $300. I never got my t-shirt though. That wasn't the important part. It's not hard to do, eventually you just forget that you're hungry. You do get sick of gatorade though. :/

I'd like to try it out :)
It's for a good cause--Why not experience what others in third world countries experience? It reveals a lot.

Good idea, I suppose, but I lack the disicple to do so. I'm all for donating to charity, but I'd rather help to poor, starving, aids-ridden people of America first.
Good idea, good charity, good cause, but not really for me.

I work every single cent for myself.
It took much for a person to be no edu, starv and live on the street...
that person suppose to work hard at the very begining, and if not some point of time he/she should have realise that, there is never too late to pick themsevle up again, otherwise too bad for them.

You don't know much about 3rd world countries do you?
Besides that, most children as young as 5 years old do not yet have an education.
This campaign is to aid Children in situations of Extreme poverty. Many of there parents have been killed by disease, famine or civil war.
I doubt very much you had to "work every single cent" at that age, you live in Australia, you have Never gone hungry, even if you live on the street here you will not go hungry. Before you come back with some stupid come back to that, you should know that I went that path at one point in my life myself, it was many years ago and I have come a very, very long way since then. But the point is, I know you don't ever have to go hungry here.

Don’t try to show me you have been through much in your life. Before I set myself in Australia, I lived in a 3rd world country for 14 Years, I have been through hunger more than you do, anyway that’s nothing interesting, everybody got they life story.
Now, you don't know how other countries have been helping the 3rd world countries do you?
Extend your eye and look at the bigger picture, why 3rd world country is not developing? Things just don’t happened over night they need to put in effort.
Did you know that other countries tried to teach them to plant and growth food in they own place, but due to they nature laziness and heavy dependant attitude many of them are not willing to learn, but prefer to get the donation from develop countries.
I know due to weather/climate conditions etc makes hard over there for planting, but if they try, that is not possible.
You don’t know how many resources are pumping into 3rd world from other countries across the world every year right?
Those government over there didn’t try they best to achieve better for they citizen, freaken politic stuff up people’s life over there.
My point is the same if it has to apply from a person to 3rd world country,
Work hard at the very beginning, and if not some point of time the country should have realise that, there is never too late to pick themselves up again, 3rd world countries can do something now, and probably it needs 10 years, if not 20, 100yrs may be longer, but it will be as good as we are, or even better in some point of time. Otherwise no matter how we try to help it will stay the same, too bad for them.

My church has done a 30 hour famine before with a lock in. I don't consider it terribly "enlightening" or anything, but if it raises money then whatever.

To be out right honest with you, I can't understand half of what you are saying here. I am usually the last person to hassle some one for grammar, but my God!
But as to you use to live in a 3rd world country, managed to save and pay your own way to Australia, met the requirements of Australian immigration, as in you had the finances to set yourself up with out being a burden, found a sponsor to guarantee your employment and done all this with out help, I don't believe you.
If what you have said is true, there is no way in hell you managed to put together the resources to re-locate to Australia, you had help.
Either that or you lived in a 2nd world country or you don't fully understand the definitions of 1st, 2nd and 3rd world country.
May I ask what country you lived in prior to Australia?
The amount of money given by aid agencies is public information, every agencies display online how much they have given.
EDIT: No matter how much I re-edit, I can't seem to clean that quote up
