Only in America: Hood College in Maryland has named a lesbian woman its Homecoming King for 2006. Jen Jones, 21, a senior, beat out seven men for the title and will share a dais at the Homecoming Dance with this year's female Queen. "It's cool that Hood allows people to be themselves," said Jones. Some students, though, say that naming a woman "King" is nonsensical, regardless of her sexual preference. "She is not a man," said senior Singleton Newman, 22. "It is a gender issue, and she is a woman."
I found an online source for the story as well, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/11/AR2006031101198.html
Any thoughts? I tend to agree with the men on this one, sexual preference isn't the issue, it's the gender. I'm all for gay rights, but being gay doesn't make you change sex.

Wow. Isn't that interesting?
I'll have to agree--Should be a dude, not a chick.
What's next? Some guy who's gay and feminine being the Home Coming Queen? Honestly that would be interesting, lolz :P

I agree with you, it's not sexual preference, its sex.
And before anyone says that you get a sex change only because of homosexuality, I'd like to clear up transgendered people usually get the operation for deeper reasons.

Yah but man, did they kiss? Because that could be kinda hot.
But in all seriousness, I think it's not the worst thing in the world (but you know it's going to be blown up into something huge) but I do agree it would be about sex, not sexuality.

Even if she was butch?Man let's get past stereotypes, not all lesbians are butch, even if they do identify more closely with men.

Because we, as caucasian males, do not get much say in what we are called, or do. It's called Affirmative Action. :-P
