View Full Version : I went to the dentist today.

Not the highlight of my week, understandably. I think it would ease my mouth's suffering if his conversation involved some new questions/topics, ever. Or if I'd recieved a toothbrush; I think they forgot about that.
I love it when the pick makes a sound like a chalkboard. The shivers down my spine offer a relaxing paralyzing effect very similar to that of a car accident or falling off a horse.
Oh, and did you get to pick a toy when you were done? That was always my favorite thing about the dentist when I was a wee little kiddie.

The pick... I hate the pick... especially when it slipped once and all I got was a "whoops"....-_-
Yes.. I don't go much for the pick.

I don't mind the polisher (yes, that's polishing your teeth, not just brushing them) or the suction thing (although spitting is more fun, imo). The pick definitely annoys me. I went to the dentist yesterday and the little napkin around my neck that the hygenist used to wipe her instruments had bloodstains all over it from where she had pricked my gums and then had to wipe off the pick.
Flouride treatments are usually the worst of all, because you can't eat or drink after them for thirty minutes. If they're giving you a flouride treatment, they should at least have the courtesty to not schedule you right before lunch.
And what about the bite wing x-rays? I gagged on one of them yesterday.

My dentist actually had a treasure chest filled with toys. And another dentist had arcade games in the lobby. Now I get a smile and "how would you like to pay for that?"
I want my toy!

Fortunately my dentist is pretty careful with the pick. The rawness wears off after a few hours, but there's no blood. Yet I live in fear that he'll slip and GAAAAAHHH!!!
And what about the bite wing x-rays? I gagged on one of them yesterday.I forgot about that. Probably because they don't bother me. It's the flouride I gag on. Can't stand the taste/texture. Just thinking about it makes me gag...
My dentist actually had a treasure chest filled with toys.Mine too. At least he still gives out toothbrushes. Or at least I think he does.

My dentist used to be the same way. You got to play on the arcade machines while you waited, and then when you left they handed you a toothbrush, helium filled balloon, and toy on the way out. Now I get nothing.
A helium baloon, eh? How cool would it be to inhale that and walk out of the dentist's office and say "ahhhhh, they cut my vocal cords!"
I'm twisted, I know.

I never liked the dentists' office. The fluoride always made me sick and then the candy afterward was like some sort of freaking molester-reward. I would be all woozy and dizzy about to throw up and they'd offer me some sort of stupidass piece of junk that I would have been at least happy to choose from at any other time. I always loved going, but hated coming out.

I only have had cleanings, never drilling or anything. But the flouride thing where you can't breathe through your mouth really makes me uncofortable. Or that daing power/polishing brush. My dentist presses so hard with that I swear they are farther back then when I started when I leave.

Is it possible to mentally and figuratively drill cavities?

The Pick; however, I would settle for those damn things they put in your mouth for the X-rays and stuff, they're like cotton or something, dunno. Ugh.

The power brush, becasue it makes your teeth all nice and shiny afterwards.
Since I have been going to the same dentist all my life, and because she's a pediatric dentist, I still get stickers if I want, despite the fact i'm 18 years old. :D

I hate that evil, foul power-brush. It tastes awful and always lasts FOREVER.

The worst is definatly the x-ray things. I once puked on a dentist when she shoved one of those things in my mouth. :D
2nd worst is the fluoride.
3rd is the conversation -- if you can even call it that, because all I do is grunt. :)
Im glad to know you went to see the dentise today, remember to do the visit again next year.

i kind of like the x-ray things, it is weird to like it when a gloved hand is shoved in my mouth? and i like the texture of that film thing they stick in there, and the way it touches the inside of my mouth

OMG. You didn't put the drill on there. Or the nasty shot they give you to numb the area that they're about to drill. Or the X-ray film. Or the impression gunk. I can't vote on this..you left out all the worst stuff.

The needle is pretty bad.. Never had this... impression gunk.
How come the dentist goes to another room to take your x-ray? if it was safe he wouldn't have too!!

The absolute worst I've experienced (worse than the drill - that just tickeled) is the rubber dam they put on when they're doing fillings. It attaches by a metal clip they put around the two bottom molars on each side of your mouth. Almost as bad as having braces put on.

I guess my worst experience was when they decided to fill a cavity without doing any kind of pain-killer at first. The part where they had to kinda clean it out/drill out some of the bad tooth was pretty wicked painful. It was my choice to try without the shots, though, since I was kind of a pansy and didn't want the shots. Finally they did, and it barely hurt and was like the coolest thing for a while.
What's funny is after that appointment I had to go to speech practice for a tournament the next day and I could barely talk because my mouth was numb for like 2 hrs longer than it should have been.

I really don't think it's all that bad. Dentists get such a bad rap, but I think it's just hyped up. Yeah the drill makes an annoying sound that vibrates through your skull, yeah fluoride tastes like shit in a cup, yeah the needles they stick in your gums hurt and there's nothing you can do because he's got his hands shoved in your mouth, but other than that it's a great experience!

The thing about me hating the drill so much is that 1) I've had awful histories with dentists all of my life (don't ask..long gross story) and 2) My mom thinks I might be allergic to Novocaine, so they have to use this other pain-killer that doesn't work as well, and it wears off faster, so last time I got fillings (from my adult teeth rotting before they came in, thanks to the bad dental history) I had to get 4 of them, but I had to get 2 or 3 shots per tooth, and the only way he knew to give me a new one what when I'd jerk because the drill had bumped the nerve. *shudder*

I don't mind the tools, I mind the idiot NURSE that does the suction. Sometimes, when she's busy, she hands the suction to ME! And I do a much better job, which is why the dentist scolds her all the time. On the upside, the dentist (30 something, but still cute) sometimes leans over so that my head is touching her breasts. I say that's better than any old TOY.
Aw crap, I got popcorn kernels stuck in my teeth again!

It pisses the hell out of me when I go to the orthodontist and he leaves the tools sitting on my breasts because then he has to pick them up again, and it's freaking annoying and I find it inappropriate. The attendants do it too, and I don't know where else they should put them, but jeese they can use a table or something.

The worst is the hook. It already looks freaking scary, but then it hurts like ass when they use it.
The second worst is the suction thing, because it makes my tongue bleed (Although it feels really cool)
The last is the xray things. They cut my gums up :(

what the fuck? thats sort of awkward. ive never had a dentist leave any tools resting on me, and my chest is as flat as a table.
